"Jackals?" Bree frowned as she wondered what she had done to offend the jackal shifters now.
"There is no need to question yourself," When Blaise saw that Bree had her brows furrowed like she was thinking about the cause and effect, he reached out and patted her on the back of her hands. "The jackal shifters have always been sly little things. You will never et a jackal shifter that you will like; they are involved in every single illegal activity that goes around the imperial capital."
"They only have two rules that they follow and those are: number one, never get caught while on a mission and number two, if you get caught, then fight to the death or die trying but never confess. That’s it; these rules are what guide their lives."
Bree frowned even harder when she heard his response; she turned around and looked at Dion before questioning, "If that’s the case, then the jackals will never confess."
"That is indeed true," Dion agreed with her. "But we need to catch and interrogate them. I have already investigated the situation; there is a small village where the jackal shifters currently live. However—"
"You don’t know if these jackal shifters are the sa ones who tried to sneak inside the palace," Bree finished without waiting for Dion to complete his sentence. She tapped her fingers on the table and silently pondered. If the jackal shifters were trying to sneak inside the palace, then it could an that they were doing it for themselves or soone asked them to do it.
But why?
She frowned and stated, "You are right. We need to interrogate these jackal shifters; it doesn’t matter if they are the ones who did it or not. As long as we catch them, the rest of the shifters would also get the ssage that attacking the palace is not child’s play and they need to think twice before accepting an order that goes against the throne."
Bree then paused and asked Dion and Blaise, "Did I ever do anything that caused problems with Jackal shifters?"She thought that she might have done sothing when she was drugged and not in the right state of her mind.
However, Blaise shook his head and replied, "Didn’t I tell you? Jackal shifters are so of the most sneaky, treacherous, and evil shifter races of our world. They don’t make a move when their pride is involved but they do make a move when money and power are involved."
"Third consort is right, Your Majesty," Dion nodded and conceded with Blaise as he said to Bree, "The jackal shifters are known not for their bravery but for kidnapping, blackmailing, and extorting others. They are also involved in trafficking the rare and almost extinct races to the rich and powerful."
Bree held up her hand and Dion stopped talking. She frowned and questioned, "However, it still doesn’t explain why they ca to the palace."
"We have to consider everything," Blaise placed his hand on the back of her neck gently and said to her, "Since these shifters ca to the imperial city and snuck out of their hideout, it can only an that they have a motive behind their actions."
He then raised his head and looked at Dion before saying to him, "I want you to find out everything that you can about the jackal shifters as soon as possible."
Dion nodded and agreed. "Don’t worry, I will get you the information in the morning, your majesty and third consort."
"Wait a second," Bree raised her head and snapped. "Are you pushing in the back room or sothing?"
"I am not," Blaise explained gently. "I just want to make sure that you do not take any task that is exceptionally dangerous, your majesty. Don’t forget that you are the pillar of this nation. If sothing happens to you, then I am afraid that this nation would not be able to handle that."
"Don’t lie to ; I know what you are trying to do. You are trying to make stay back in the palace where I stay protected and you take over the danger," she then turned to look at Dion and questioned angrily, "And since when did you start answering him? You are my aide."
"He is just trying to do what is right."
"Bullshit."
There was a cry of outrage and shock as both n looked at her as if she had grown another head on her shoulder.
"Language, your majesty," Blaise chided her in a way as if he found the entire thing quite amusing. "If the elders from the council heard you using such words, they would have a collective heart attack. Do you think you want to have so many lives in your hands."
Bree glowered at the man as she turned to look away from him and said to Dion, "You will be reporting to and not him; do you understand?" She didn’t do well when a man tried to pamper or protect her by going out of his way. Though she did have the plan to use these consorts of hers to keep her life intact and safe, she never had the intention to stay back and live her life like a damsel in distress.
Because that wasn’t what Bree did well at all. She could never be the weak and timid woman that n adored and liked even if her life depended on it.
She would appreciate it if they were saving her when she was in a pinch but she would never let a man keep her as a trapped canary.
"Yes, your majesty." Dion felt trapped; he could not understand why Bree and Blaise couldn’t solve these problems among themselves. Why did they have to drag him into their troubles? Now this was great; he was being glared at by the two majestic figures of the empire and he couldn’t help but wonder if he was going to grow old or not.
Because given how things were going, Dion was worried that all these worries would slowly eat away his life.
