He heard her sniff for one last ti as she raised her hand and wiped her nose making a soft whimpering noise as she said, " Why are you being so nice to ? I thought you hated ."
" Don’t be ridiculous your majesty, I can never hate you."
She scoffed causing him to sigh as he turned her around such that she was looking at him, they have been married for years but he was sure that this was the first ti the two were having a heart-to-heart talk for the first ti, her attempts to ignore has caused his patience to wear thin, fortunately, his job was demanding enough for him to suppress himself instead of doing sothing crazy upon seeing her avoid him.
" Would you believe if I say that I didn’t want to do that ...to you or the other consorts, I an, it’s a pathetic excuse but I thought that you should know."
" You don’t need to apologise for it." Since you weren’t the one who did all those crazy antics, he added in his head.
"They must hate then, even if you say that you don’t," she added with her hands covering her face as she shook her head, he wanted to tell her that she was being silly by making such assumptions but then he heard the forlorn sigh that escaped her lips and he tightened his hold on her shoulders. " And not only them but I am also hated by everyone here, my officials are scheming against and the people for whom I am doing this, they too do not adore . God what am I even doing here, I am not fit to do sothing like this, I was a fool to think that I can do this, it was simply stupid of ....I am not what they want."
He didn’t like anything about what she said just now, no it would be better to say that he hated the way she phrased those words as if soone has put her down to the point where she has to let go of her self-esteem. He sighed and clasped his hands around her wrists, he swear he forgot to breathe for a mont as he looked at her, the Dragon queen with her stoic and cold face was a sight to behold but the one in front of him simply left him breathless. She looked gorgeous as burning hell itself, with her damp eyes and cheeks that were tinged with pink with lingering sadness in her eyes she looked vulnerable.
His wolf lunged to the surface already having serious issues with Yakov for not giving him what he wanted, to him this female was his to touch, hold and taste, he couldn’t understand why his human counterpart wasn’t acting on his instincts and taking what belonged to them.
Yakov have to summon every iota of willpower that he had in his body to stop himself from lowering his mouth and having a taste. But he stopped himself, he didn’t want to do sothing like that when she was like this, they had a number of misunderstandings and it will need resolving first before he could do that.
" Co on your majesty, let’s sit down first all right?" He said gently before taking her elbow and guiding Bree to the small stone benches that the Duke has placed all along the harbour, she sat down still looking lost and confused, as if she was battling with herself, he sensed that she was a flight risk, that was why he sat down next to her. He might look lean but he was bulky under all the fancy clothes that he wore, the second he sat down beside her, he took up the entire space that was left.
But maybe Bree was lost to the point that she didn’t even mind that their thighs and hips were touching. He placed a hand on her thigh loving the touch of the smooth velvety before speaking, " You are not a fool, your majesty and who said that to you?"
" Does it even matter? It’s true I am a fool, who takes on more than I can chew."
" I don’t think that it’s true," he said gruffly already carried away to a ntal fighting ring where he was choking the life out of the man or woman who said such words to Bree.
She let out a watery sob. " Then you might have a screw loose sowhere, I have always been taking on things that were too big for to take on. I always think that I can do it but in the end, I just make things difficult for everyone... then I will catch myself in a ss and leave others to laugh at ." She wiped the tears that were lingering on her eyelashes and sniffed. " After that, I will do the thing all over again just to spite them, I will be able to do it but then those who laughed at will call stupid for taking over things that I couldn’t do."
She smacked her hands again on her eyes. " I am like a super hot cat who just ruins everything that she touches. Did I think that I will be able to rule over this Empire, goodness I really did think that, didn’t I? What’s more, I even tried to place a flower bouquet in front of the morial of a man whom I killed, what was I even thinking?"
Maybe it was the wrong thing to do at the mont but laughter built in his throat, and Yakov suppressed it sohow. " I did tell you that it was a stupid thing to do, that man does not deserve to be called a hero much less treated like one."
She raised her head and looked at him, she must have seen the humour in his eyes because she raised her leg and stomped on his feet. " Don’t you dare to laugh at like that."
" Forgive , your majesty," He sohow managed to suppress the twitching of his lips as he turned to look at her and said, " Anyway if it makes you feel better, you did manage to drop the bouquet in front of the morial, I bet the late Emperor might be rolling in his grave at the mont."
Yakov waited for her to laugh at his words, but she didn’t. He wasn’t surprised, he wasn’t the life of the party though it was Blaise or soone like his elder cousin brother who was entertaining enough for won to flock to him, what made him think that his boring self would be able to make Bree laugh?
" I was engaged to a woman before ... I found you, your majesty. She was a perfect woman, soft, gentle and knew how to do things, my father really adored her, according to him she was well, the perfect mistress for the Sceptre family. He brought the two of us together and everything was fine at the beginning, she was hopeful and had a lot of expectations from , but I ... uh, it will be best to say that I am not good with romance, the woman wanted soone nice, soone, who would make her feel wanted and jittery." He inhaled deeply. " I on the other hand was everything than that, the feelings of excitent that she had when she was engaged to at first faded, since I left her alone a lot, I am not good at breaking my habits or the schedule that I have set up for myself, despite being engaged to her I followed the sa routine as I have from the day I started to recognise things, to she was just a partner of convenience. But to her I was more than that, so when she ca to see , I would often leave her alone, I think that this will surprise you."
She didn’t look surprised at all.
" So yeah, I wasn’t what you will call an excellent fiancé and well, three weeks later, I found her in bed with my cousin’s brother."
" That’s awful," she said with a slight scrunch of her brows.
" I guess it is," Yakov slightly conceded before he sighed and then turned around to look at her with a smile. " I don’t know maybe it was I who was at fault, I knew what she wanted from and I knew that I will not be able to give it to her but I still got engaged to her, its not a surprise that she went ahead and chose soone who was well better than ."
Bree didn’t respond at once, instead, she waited and carefully thought the things through before saying, " I don’t know a lot about relationships or mating bonds but I think that if you are not happy then moving on is better than cheating," she paused as she turned around and looked at him. " I just slapped myself on the mouth didn’t I?"
" That you did my queen."
