After taking the dicine it didn’t take long for Bree’s eyes to close, the dicine was a bit strong, to begin with, and coupled with a strange scent that floating in the tent, her head started to feel dizzier and dizzier, a few minutes later her eyelids turned heavy and she dozed off. Once her breathing turned even, Yakov stood up from his chair and ca to stand beside her bed. His amber eyes were shadowed by his long curled lashes as he stared at the sleeping Bree, he titled his head to the side and stared at the face that matched with the one in his mories——the woman in front of him was definitely the Dragon Queen, except for her scent that was changed for so unknown reason,z she was indeed his mate and the woman he married.

But sothing about her was different, the Brianna he knew was only ruthless to others—— she has never been ruthless to herself. She knew her strength and used it to the best of her abilities, when has she ever taken hold of a battle that she knew she might not be able to win? The answer was she never did that. It was as simple as that, the fact that she did sothing like putting herself in danger for the sake of a few knights and even grieved for a young knight she didn’t even know about was a miracle in itself. However, that wasn’t the only surprising thing... the thing that surprised him the most was that Brianna was actually willing to hurt herself in the process of protecting them.

Sothing like this didn’t happen the first ti, it happened loads of tis.

Assassinating the Empress was the goal of many, so every ti the two of them stepped out of the palace... attempts like this happened every damn ti to the point that Yakov have forgotten just how many tis their life was put on the line. And each ti when he watched knights struggle, he had asked Bree to intervene, what did she say to him back then? Oh yes, she said —— ’That’s their job, protecting you and ...that’s their soul reason to exist and breathe. Why else am I paying them? If they want to be my knights this was sothing that they have to do. Why should I step in?’

Yes, that was what she said to him and stopped him from helping the knights as well.

Back then forget about helping the knights, she wouldn’t even stop the journey to properly bury the knights who died while protecting her. In the end, a few knights have to just pick up the dead bodies and make a haphazard grave to dump all the bodies together. Yet today the sa woman asked him to find a suitable place for the young knight to rest and even protected everyone whose lives were in danger.

He long had the suspicions that sothing about Bree changed, right on the very first day when she announced that she wanted to break their bond and renounce him as her mate. Everyone knew that the Sceptre family was the strongest in the Empire and that their marriage was sothing that was long settled down because of their status, him being the heir of the Sceptre family and her being the Queen —— them getting married was an undeniable fact, this was sothing that Bree knew as well and that was why even she never talked about breaking their bond even when they had no feelings between them.

That sa woman, who always turned a blind eye to everything for the sake of her own benefits was actually willing to let go of him, just like that? Not to ntion even after finding out that he was the mastermind behind everything, she didn’t give out the order to get him executed. Since, when did the Bree he knew beco this kind?

His suspicions were there but he couldn’t get a firm response from her—— what was more he never really tried to get an answer either for he was worried about getting the wrong answer.

However today he couldn’t hold himself and asked that one question that he shouldn’t have.

Yakov sat down on the edge of the bed as he slowly raised his hand and stretched it until his fingers were curled around Bree’s neck. The dicine was strong enough to knock even the strongest shifter unconscious, so, he wasn’t worried about her waking up and catching him red handed, with his fingers wrapped around her throat, Yakov leaned forward until he was inches away from Bree’s face and murmured, " Who are you?"

She looked like the Dragon Queen externally but on the inside, she seed to be a completely different person. His eyes sharpened as he used his other hand to carefully skim the back of his hand on Bree’s jaw before his fingers stopped on top of her lips, if everything on the outside was the sa then doesn’t it an that she changed on the inside? It could have been the work of a dark mage but Yakov didn’t sense any traces of dark energy on her body aning Bree never ca in contact with a dark mage.

And even if she ca in touch with a dark mage, she would have changed for the worse, not for the better.

He pulled away, tracing circles on her pulse point as he slowly tightened his grip on her throat—— now, he had two choices, either choke her to death and then bla her for the appearance of the mountain golem, compared to the Dragon Queen, his fa was wider and much more recognised. Making others believe in him was sothing that wouldn’t take much effort on his part, as long as he said that the Queen was affected by dark magic, others would certainly believe him. In fact, they would also agree with his plans of executing her.

Or he could just keep this thing to himself and make her submit to him, just as he originally intended to ..pared to the past, the current Bree did provoke sothing inside of him.
