Chapter 847: Extras: Together_5
“Even if I return to Yanjing City, there are still many things to prepare,” Jiang Li said, “I haven’t prepared my bridal gown or dowry, nothing at all. How could I possibly get married as soon as I return?”
When Jih Heng left, they were at war, and no one knew what the outco would be. After the war ended, news ca that Jih Heng had died on the battlefield. Let alone getting married, it was uncertain how long this marriage arrangent could last. Jiang Li had not prepared anything, so how could she be ready for the wedding in such a short ti?
“Don’t worry,” he said in a gentle voice, “I have prepared everything long ago.”
Jiang Li looked at him in surprise. In his amber eyes was a smile that was not quite a smile, as if he were slightly drunk from wine, yet clearly sober. He continued, “It was your request that I marry you once I return to Yanjing. I thought so too. Before I left, I had everything ready.”
Jiang Li furrowed her brows. The two of them had kissed each other goodbye at Qingzhou Wharf, and indeed, Jiang Li had said that she would marry Jih Heng once he returned to the capital. But before he left… Could it be that before he took the Jinwu Army to Qingzhou, he had settled everything?
“Your bridal gown, your dowry, your betrothal gifts—I have prepared them all. Everything is ready for this marriage; all that is missing is you. You are welco to walk through the door at any ti, I will always wait for you,” his voice deep and seductive, the kind of words that could make any woman imrse herself in them and never wish to awaken, “Whatever you want, I can help you attain it. You cannot escape the palm of my hand.”
Jiang Li chuckled and said, “What if I choose not to marry? Wouldn’t all your preparations be a waste?”
“Would you bear not to marry ?” He raised an eyebrow, “I rember soone once said, even if I died, she would remain a widow for for life, never to marry.”
Jiang Li feigned ignorance: “That wasn’t who said it, you must have heard it wrong, don’t even think about pinning that on .”
Jih Heng smiled and said nothing, just holding Jiang Li. He still rembered that girl standing before everyone, firmly proclaiming those words. Watching her in the Duke Residence, dealing with those with ulterior motives, and exhausting all her efforts to protect his belongings, at that mont, he suddenly understood that all the past pains were worthwhile because he t her. This sincerity had made even Emperor Hongxiao rest assured, not to ntion himself. A man who was known for his heart of iron and stone, devoid of affection, was pulled out from the darkness by her, bringing life and warmth.
She was his life’s redemption. Therefore, he would never let go, never.
“Let’s always be together, Ah Li,” he said softly.
Jiang Li paused for a mont and then blood into a smile, “Alright.”
…
When they left for Xiangyang, they were a small group, but when they returned to Yanjing City, there were many more people with them.
The Ye Family had settled all their business matters in Xiangyang. In the end, they didn’t sell the Xue Residence and Ye Residence; after all, those were the places they had lived in for many years, and they couldn’t bear to let them go. They were left as a keepsake, perhaps one day if they wished to return to their hotown for a visit, they would not be without a place to go.
But upon this return to Yanjing, they had an additional task: to prepare for Jiang Li’s wedding.
After spending so ti in Xiangyang and setting out for Yanjing City, they didn’t rush. They took a slow and leisurely journey, enjoying the mountains and waters along the way, imnsely delighted. Old Madam Ye’s health had improved a great deal, and she was in high spirits when with Jiang Li and the others. By the ti they reached Yanjing City, it was already the eighth month.
The group discussed and decided on the wedding day to be the eighth day of the ninth month, with the autumn weather pleasant and agreeable. But by this calculation, Jiang Li had less than a month to prepare.
The people from the Duke Residence were not in the least bit hurried because there was really nothing to prepare. Jih Heng had long ago prepared everything, and even the Phoenix Crown and Cape didn’t need to be made by Jiang Li herself. Although it was common for girls to make their own bridal gowns, Jih Heng’s reason was that needlework was admittedly tireso, and it seed Jiang Li didn’t really like such matters, so he took it upon himself to find them.
The Jiang Residence no longer existed, and the bride-to-be could not directly live in the Duke Residence. During these days, Jiang Li stayed in the Ye Residence. Early one morning, Zhao Ke ca to visit, startling the young servant at the door of the Ye Residence as Zhao Ke was followed by a procession with horse-drawn carriages, each bearing large red wooden boxes that seed very heavy.
Ye Mingyu hurried over upon hearing and asked, “What is this…?”
“These are the dowry and bridal gown the lord has prepared for the miss,” Zhao Ke said while holding one in his hands, “He ordered to personally deliver it into Second Miss’s hands.”
