Capítulo 841: Grand Finale (Part 17)

Everywhere there were lanterns, everywhere there were the lively sounds of people, and clay figurine makers could be seen everywhere. Situ Jiuyue even ended up with a sugar-coated haw on a stick in her hand. There were street perforrs, sugar-blowers; the hustle and bustle of Tongxiang was utterly different from the capital, but it had a kind of prosperity beyond the worldliness, like the fabled Arcadia described in books.

This was Situ Jiuyue’s first visit to Tongxiang, and her face was filled with surprise. Xue Zhao explained these things to her, and before they knew it, the two of them had fallen behind the others. Seeing this, Jiang Li did not hurry them, thinking it was also good for them to have so ti alone. It was rare for Situ Jiuyue to have such a relaxed mont. When Jiang Li glanced over, she could still see the smile on Situ Jiuyue’s face.

She was genuinely happy.

Jiang Li was happy for her too. Just then, Ye Jiaer and Ye Rufeng were captivated by a juggler in front of them. The juggler had a stack of plates in his hands and was balancing another stack on his head—so high and yet they did not fall. Cheers erupted from the crowd. Ye Jiajia and her brother were srized, so Jiang Li stopped by the side, waiting patiently.

At that mont, as Jiang Li turned her head, her gaze suddenly froze. She thought she saw a familiar figure flash through the crowd. That splash of vivid red made the surrounding festivity and hustle seem to lose their luster. Jiang Li’s heart shook, and her body moved faster than her thoughts; she almost instinctively ran toward the crowd to see who that person was.

She was surrounded by people, bumping into many as she apologized and kept searching. She could not find that person; it seed like she had been seeing things, or it was just an illusion, but it felt incredibly real. Jiang Li caught up with a person in red wearing a mask. For a mont, she thought she had found her, trembling as she reached out to remove the stranger’s mask, only to have her smile freeze on her face—it was an unfamiliar middle-aged man, looking at her with suspicion.

Jiang Li choked up before saying, “I’m sorry, I mistook you for soone else.”

The man intended to scold her, but seeing Jiang Li’s reddening eyes and thinking she was scared, he said, “It’s okay, it’s okay; don’t cry over a mistaken identity.” He then walked away, embarrassed.

Jiang Li stood there as many people passed by, trying to find that red figure in the throng. But with the dim lights, she couldn’t see anything. People were wearing all sorts of masks, but none of the faces behind them was the one she wanted to see.

She had lost Jih Heng and couldn’t find her anywhere.

The streets of Tongxiang on both sides were planted with peach trees. The spring spirit this year was particularly strong, with layers of flowers blooming extravagantly on the trees. What was usually a rare beauty in the human world beca, amidst the bustle of thousands, a source of desolation and lancholy for Jiang Li.

She searched over and over, everyone she saw seed like the sa person, and finally, she grew tired and stopped.

Ye Jiajia and Ye Rufeng were nowhere to be seen. She had walked too fast without notifying the siblings, and after wandering around, she was left with nothing.

The wind in April seed to carry warmth, tickling the face. Jiang Li walked slowly along the riverbank. Many girls were setting floating lanterns there, lighting up the water surface. Lovers were expressing their longing through the ripples, and amidst the song and dance, Jiang Li continued to walk slowly, as if returning to that nightlife of drunken spring breezes many years ago. Jih Heng would walk slowly like this, indifferent to the rrint, out of place in all the glamour like an intruder.

So people cast curious glances at Jiang Li, seeing the gifted and translucent girl with a dispirited and distracted look on her face, moving exceptionally slow as if lost in thought.

The lights seed as if they would never go out. Jiang Li walked for a very long ti. When she reached the end of the riverbank, she suddenly heard Ye Jiaer’s voice, “Cousin!”

Jiang Li turned around, and Ye Jiajia ran up to her, panting, grasping Jiang Li’s hands, looking her over and saying, “Cousin, where did you go? I couldn’t find you at all. I thought you had disappeared, I was about to go to the authorities.”

“I’m fine.” Jiang Li forced a smile for her and, not seeing Ye Rufeng, asked, “Where’s Rufeng?”

Hearing this, Ye Jiajia’s expression grew even uglier, prompting Jiang Li to ask, “Has sothing happened?”

“Rufeng and I didn’t realize you had disappeared at first and thought you were waiting for Young Master Xue and the others. There was a stage not far ahead where an opera troupe was performing, and Rufeng had never seen a troupe sing so well. But so rich young master had reserved the performance for himself. Rufeng, in his youthful impetuosity, could not stand it and argued with the man. Later, Young Master Xue arrived to diate, and they’re still sorting it out.”
