Chapter 713: Chapter 216 Sister and Brother_5

Xue Zhao laughed, “Don’t worry, sis.”

Jiang Li gave Xue Zhao another thorough reminder of what to pay attention to. While she was instructing him, she looked no different from the Xue Fangfei in Xue Zhao’s mory. Xue Zhao agreed to everything with a smile, and only then did Jiang Li leave the room with Jih Heng.

Zhao Ke had been squatting at the door for quite a while. When he saw Jiang Li and the other person co out, he quickly made way. He noticed that Jiang Li’s eyes were slightly swollen, as if she had cried bitterly, while Jih Heng’s expression was indiscernible. Zhao Ke wildly guessed to himself, could it be that his master, upon seeing the close relationship between Miss Jiang the Second and Ah Zhao, threatened Miss Jiang the Second, or even killed Ah Zhao? His master was ruthless enough to do such a thing. But from the looks of it, with Miss Jiang the Second being resistant to pressure but not persuasions, this blunt approach might only anger her.

He followed behind Jih Heng and Jiang Li from afar.

“Thank you, Jih Heng,” Jiang Li’s voice was muffled from crying, no longer as clear as usual, “You saved Ah Zhao.”

“It was rely lifting a finger for ,” Jih Heng said, “Besides, I didn’t know he was your brother at that ti.”

He indeed hadn’t expected this person to be Jiang Li’s brother. Even after Xue Zhao had stayed at the house for a long ti, he hadn’t paid attention to what Xue Zhao’s na was. If it wasn’t for Zhao Ke calling out “Ah Zhao” tonight, he didn’t know when such a misunderstanding would be resolved. But it seed that the siblings from the Xue family were very close, and he was also glad for the small effort he had made.

Though he habitually disliked watching plays with happy endings, always feeling them too fake and laughable, when it ca to Jiang Li, he thought all tragedies should stay far away from her—everything should end in great joy.

“You and Doctor Situ, both are benefactors of the Xue family,” Jiang Li said softly, “You rescued them, and Miss Jiuyue healed them. Ah Zhao’s rapid recovery owes much to Miss Jiuyue’s efforts.”

“I didn’t ask her to treat a stranger with such concern—it was her own doing,” Jih Heng chuckled, “Your brother, he’s really not simple.”

“Of course, he’s not,” Jiang Li said with a laugh when she spoke of Xue Zhao. “Just as you said, even in the Private Prison, he didn’t give up, did he? That’s just the kind of person Ah Zhao is. But when I think about it now, I still get scared. If that day I hadn’t asked you to go to the Private Prison to look for Jiang Youyao, if you hadn’t seen Ah Zhao, if you had seen Ah Zhao and hadn’t saved him… my brother would still be alive and I wouldn’t know, leaving him to suffer tornt. Just the thought scares .”

Even in the depths of a sumr night, one could feel cold; she hugged her shoulders, shivering, looking exceptionally pitiful. She seed to imagine so terrible event, turning her lips pale.

Jih Heng furrowed his brows and knocked her on the forehead.

Jiang Li covered her head and looked at him, “What are you doing?”

“There are no ‘what ifs,'” he said, taking it for granted, “Without ‘what ifs,’ that’s why I encountered him, rescued him, and why he’s alive. Speaking of ‘what ifs,’ if at the very beginning I hadn’t encountered you causing trouble on Green City Mountain, none of this would have happened.”

Jiang Li was stunned for a mont, then laughed, saying, “That’s true.”

After walking a while and nearly reaching the door, Jiang Li asked again, “But Jih Heng, there’s sothing I still don’t understand. Why did you save Ah Zhao at that ti? Even if Ah Zhao pleaded with you, why did you agree so readily?”

Jih Heng had never been a kind-hearted guy; he usually observed others’ pleas for help from a distance, but this ti, inside the Private Prison, when Ah Zhao clutched his boots, he agreed.

Jih Heng smiled.

Why? How many ‘whys’ can there be in the world? People trapped in darkness are unconsciously attracted to light, just as he would oddly co to like a woman like Jiang Li. Her superfluous warmth and kindness, the very things he loathed, were strangely what made him fond of her.

It was the sa with Xue Zhao. In the darkness of the cage, when he saw the dying young man who was dragging himself across the ground, legs trailing long streaks of blood, grabbing hold of him as if grabbing a ray of heavenly light, the youth’s eyes clear and hopeful, suddenly made Jih Heng think of his forr self.

He crawled in the dark. He had sold his soul to evil spirits and discarded all tender emotions without a weak spot. But when he saw this young man, pity suddenly welled up in him.

So, he pulled him out of the darkness with one hand.

There was no reason; he simply didn’t want to see a reenactnt of his own past experiences.

And by a sheer mistake, he saved Jiang Li’s brother.

Jih Heng stopped walking, looking down at Jiang Li.

Jiang Li looked up at him, her gaze bearing the sa roots as her brother’s, yet with more perseverance and forthrightness amid the rashness and breadth of youth.

“I don’t know,” he said.

Why did you save him?

I don’t know.

“Perhaps,” he sighed with a smile, “it’s the guidance of fate, and I simply couldn’t refuse.”
