Chapter 171: Every Mont Has a Rhythm
This wasn’t even that surprising.
“Hey!”
When soone said it wouldn’t be complete unless I took off the mask, CEO Kim Minsoo burst out yelling.
Our CEO could’ve been a singer.
That voice of his…
“Jeez, that scared . Why are you shouting like that?”
“Do you even know what a major company comrcial is?”
“I do.”
Not just on TV, but in every possible dium—magazines, newspapers, you na it.
YouTube ads, bus stops, subway platforms, LED billboards, movie theaters, university festival booths...
Wherever you turn your head, there’ll be an Orbit comrcial.
Kim Minsoo kept talking, as if it wasn’t even worth wasting ti counting on his fingers.
“In other words, you could be walking down the street and bump into your own face.”
That’s kind of creepy.
“You might even hear your voice in the smartphone section while shopping at a supermarket.”
…Okay, that’s going too far.
“That’s how massive this contract is. It’s not a simple matter of whether you take off the mask or not.”
“Right, I get that...”
CEO Kim Minsoo cut off and launched into a long lecture.
It’s not like I’m trying to slap his face on the ad.
Why is he getting so worked up?
“…Did you understand? It’s a lot harder than you think.”
He was seriously misunderstanding sothing.
“Wait a minute, hear out.”
“Huh?”
“When I say I’ll take off the mask, it doesn’t necessarily an I’ll reveal my face.”
“…What are you talking about?”
I didn’t answer imdiately, choosing my words carefully.
Maybe it’s because I’m not that articulate.
I couldn’t quite find the perfect way to phrase it.
So I just pointed to the comrcial storyboard with my index finger and spoke.
“Right here.”
“Yeah?”
Words that co to mind when you think of a DJ:
Rhythm and beat.
We naturally wove those into everyday life.
Every mont flows with its own rhythm.
The faint sound of a heartbeat transforms like a rhythm, connecting into a beat.
Blackhole’s rhythm linked with daily life rhythms.
Blackhole’s beat with the beats of consurs’ lives.
It connected to the Heart Beat.
You could feel the careful design behind this.
For example, Blackhole’s beat playing in a club, then transitioning with the sound of a heartbeat as the screen changes to a healthcare app showing Heart Beat stats—those monts carried that feeling.
Even CEO Kim Minsoo seed pretty moved.
“Yeah, this is where KW Electronics does stand out. I was wondering how they’d connect a DJ with a smartphone.”
“It’s not just the phone. It links up with the watch too.”
DJ mixing tools, music apps, healthcare apps, calendar and scheduling.
In just 60 seconds, Orbit is clearly portrayed as part of Blackhole’s daily life.
As he admired it, Kim Minsoo snapped out of it and asked,
“But what’s this got to do with the mask?”
“The final scene. Isn’t it kind of vague?”
I pointed to the last scene on the storyboard.
Kim Minsoo asked, puzzled,
“Huh? What part?”
“The mont when he lifts his hand to the mask.”
“I thought it was cool.”
“Yeah, it is cool. The scene itself is great.”
I spoke firmly.
“But I think viewers might interpret it like this: ‘He’s hesitating whether to take it off or not.’”
“Isn’t that the point?”
“No? I’ve never hesitated about it.”
Kim Minsoo quietly set down the cup he had been drinking from.
“If it’s a story that’s only complete when the mask cos off, then I think it should co off.”
“Phew… This kid, seriously.”
His tone and expression were filled with concern.
I understood.
We’d gone to great lengths to get special clauses into the contract.
No face reveals, no unauthorized filming by staff or others.
It was so thorough that even the lawyer was amazed.
“And now you’re saying we’re scrapping that?”
“I an… take it off, but don’t reveal it.”
Facing Kim Minsoo’s puzzled look, I began to explain.
“The mont the mask cos off, the lights go out. The face doesn’t show on screen. You only see the gesture of taking it off, while the face remains in the shadows.”
I pointed to the last cut of the storyboard again with my index finger.
“Rather than revealing my identity… I want to show that it was sincere.”
I can’t say for sure if this is the correct answer.
But one thing was clear.
I didn’t want to leave room for ambiguity.
“I hope that becos the final scene of the comrcial—and its true ssage.”
“‘Take a Bow’… That phrase can also an stepping down from the stage.”
“Exactly. It’s like a greeting saying, ‘I want to get closer to you.’ Like taking off a hat and giving the final bow to the audience.”
“If that’s the case, then good. I’ll talk to the KW Electronics side.”
Kim Minsoo let out a faint sigh.
It wasn’t because he was worried about breaking the mysterious-DJ-with-a-hidden-face concept.
He always genuinely worried about .
I’d already heard countless tis just today how exhausting being a celebrity is.
“If we make it right, it could look really cool. The ga-corp geniuses will figure it out and make it better.”
And so I—
Chose a way to reveal myself without being seen.
The weekend passed, and Monday arrived.
KW Electronics’ headquarters break room.
Soone was sitting in the corner, replaying the weekend in their mind, grinning with joy.
Clearly wearing a brand-new shirt bought just yesterday.
A slightly awkward but neatly styled haircut.
A man who sohow looked happy these days.
It was none other than Marketing Team’s Manager Park Jeonghun.
‘So that’s what a club is like…’
Last weekend—specifically Saturday—
It had been unforgettable.
He had been invited to a special show at Club Sierra.
And the impression it left—
‘Why am I still shaking?’
That night, Park Jeonghun had an experience he’d rember for life.
A strange space where his shoulders moved on their own, and his body caught the rhythm instinctively.
– “Manager, isn’t the vibe amazing?”
– “Y-yeah! I can’t hear you! What?”
The music was so loud, you could barely hear soone shouting right next to you.
The bass wasn’t just a vibration—it was an earthquake.
At first, it had been awkward.
The scent of youth, flustered employees, clothes that didn’t quite match the scene.
But then, at one mont, the lights flashed and DJ Blackhole raised his hand.
– “Wooooaaaaah!”
And his brain turned to jelly.
How had he gone his whole life without coming to a place like this?
Had he wasted nearly half his life?
He even started to feel a little resentful about it.
Blackhole.
To be honest, when I first saw that stage na, I sneered.
‘What kind of na is that? What is he, stuck in middle school?’
But before the first track had even finished—
He had already beco a fan of Blackhole.
He could carry an audience with just music alone.
Soone like that was more than qualified to be Orbit’s comrcial model. More than enough.
And… he wanted to go again.
That was the only thought on his mind.
‘I never knew a DJ could be that cool.’
Only then did he understand.
Why Headquarters chose Blackhole.
Why they said to rember him by his music, not his face.
“That was seriously amazing…”
It felt like he had stepped into a completely different world.
That very night, with the full moon hanging in the sky—
The dreamy Lunatic Beat made him fall into “music” for the first ti in his life.
Because of that, Blackhole’s mix tape beca Park Jeonghun’s most prized treasure.
He splurged on a pair of expensive headphones and a small audio system with a CD Player.
Of course—good music should be heard on good audio gear.
Park Jeonghun pressed a hand to his chest and took a deep breath.
“Hooah…”
As he sat in the quiet break room, lost in his own mories—
A few female employees ca in, chatting as they brewed coffee.
They were the ones who had also gone to Sierra.
“I’m totally going to Sierra again!”
“Assistant Manager Lee, you could go. We can’t.”
“So what? Sierra didn’t even feel like that kind of place.”
“They say if you just show up, the line’s insane. We only got in ‘cause Blackhole invited us that day.”
At the sound of Blackhole’s na, Manager Park perked up his ears.
“I’ve been watching nothing but club videos lately.”
“ too.”
“But there’s nowhere like Sierra, right?”
“Yeah. Other DJs don’t quite compare.”
“Is it called mixing? One of Han Yujin’s songs was playing, and then in the chorus it transitioned into Signum’s song… wow, I got chills.”
He felt the sa way.
Everyone’s first ti must’ve been a special experience.
“Oh, right. Did you see this?”
At that mont, Assistant Manager Song Hayoung pulled out her smartphone and held it out.
On screen was a post from the office community app BlindTalk.
“What is it?”
“Soone posted a review.”
“Huh? For real?”
The four of them huddled together, staring down at the phone. A rare sight.
“What the—who is this? Wow, this is insane. Can you even post sothing like this?”
“People already know Blackhole’s doing a comrcial with us.”
It was an interesting post.
The app was a workplace community where you had to verify your company email, and your company’s logo showed next to your posts.
Next to the post, KW Electronics’ logo was clearly displayed.
[ (Today’s Best) Office Worker’s First-Ever Club Experience Review ]
Honestly, I never thought soone like would ever go to a club.
The only place I’ve been to at dawn is a study room.
I don’t drink, I don’t listen to music…
I’m in my late 30s and all I ever did was study.
And yet, on Saturday night, I ended up watching a performance by a DJ nad Blackhole at a place called Club Sierra.
All thanks to my company.
Heard there was an event related to our ad campaign…
I was excited, but also felt lazy. Still, I figured—hey, it’s an experience. So I went.
I did wonder if soone like should even be there. (I was a total nerd back in school, LOL.)
Anyway. The DJs I knew were flashy, shirtless punks with tattoos scratching records…
But this guy—he was different. Completely different.
It might sound cheesy, but I finally got why people listen to music. It cracked sothing open in my chest.
The Blackhole comrcial? You can definitely look forward to it.
The reaction was explosive.
It was a community full of office workers, after all.
So a refreshing, rule-breaking experience like that resonated deeply.
↳ LOL you can feel how hyped this guy was
↳ KW Electronics, damn. Did they rent the whole club?
↳↳ Nope. DJ invited them.
↳ Why doesn’t our company do stuff like this T_T
↳ Blackhole’s insane. Try listening to Lunatic Beat.
↳↳ Just did. What the hell, it’s insane.
↳ Man, KW Electronics is on fire lately. This is real brand engagent.
↳ Saw Blackhole trending on BlindTalk and got chills… soone compile all the links pls T_T
↳ Are they filming the Orbit Phone ad there? This is gonna blow up;;;
↳↳ LOL I heard the crowd going wild in the background
↳ A DJ for a comrcial… surprised this even got approved. KW Group’s so conservative.
↳↳ Executive Director Kim Jinsoo personally signed off on it. You can find it online.
↳ Our company should take notes! Stop dragging in washed-up actors!
The employees looking at the phone all broke into beaming smiles.
Even if they grumbled and joked—
Deep down, everyone felt the sa about the company.
Pleased, and proud.
“But… who posted it?”
“Could it be…”
Everyone’s eyes turned toward Park Jeonghun.
Was it the stares that made him uncomfortable?
Or just embarrassnt?
Manager Park Jeonghun cleared his throat and quickly scurried out of the break room like he was fleeing.
Ti passed quickly.
At Club Sierra in Ilsan—
Today, sothing a bit special was happening.
It was none other than the comrcial shoot for the Orbit Phone.
With the most important scene—the club scene—coming up, a few special events were being held beforehand.
The crowd? 100% real Sierra audience.
They had been selected by lottery.
Even after agreeing that their faces might appear in the comrcial, the competition ratio had reportedly been 30:1.
“Blackhole’s shooting an Orbit ad?!”
“He should! Lee Jeongin’s song blew up.”
“I was a NaJakDJ fan.”
“What’s that?”
‘My Own Little DJ.’ But now he’s too famous!”
The audience chatted while waiting for the shoot to begin.
They sincerely cheered for Blackhole’s success.
“Oh? He’s here.”
As always—
Taeyoon appeared wearing his mask.
Still in his signature white hoodie, just like Blackhole.
And it wasn’t just the audience that buzzed with excitent.
The staff involved in the shoot were equally captivated by Blackhole’s presence.
“…Think we’ll get to see his face today?”
“Who knows? But even if he does show it, don’t take photos. You know KW Electronics, right? The king of lawsuits.”
“My little brother asked to get an autograph. Think I can?”
“His aura really is different. Guess that’s the kind of presence you need to land an Orbit Phone comrcial.”
After briefly greeting the director and staff—
Blackhole stepped up to the stage.
Right before he got on, the director quietly reminded him.
“Just like always—naturally, please.”
Blackhole simply nodded in response.
A mont later, the lights went out.
“When I shout ‘action,’ the shoot will begin. Take One!”
The director called out.
“Action!”
Fzzzzzt—
Stage lights flickered on, one by one.
And the mont Blackhole was revealed standing at the turntable—
“Whoa…”
The director glanced down at the script.
[ Every mont has a rhythm. ]
At that mont, there could’ve been no better narration.
