"I wanted to surprise you... but why are you crying? What’s going on, Cali? Please tell what’s wrong?" Rui muttered while his hand slid in her hair as he tried to comfort her. He was in pain seeing Cali in tears.
"Did I do sothing to upset you, sweetheart? Please tell . I won’t ever repeat it again, but don’t cry like this. I can’t see you in tears. Please tell what happened!"
He wiped the tears away from her cheeks and saw Cali shake her head, and then she broke in a smile when she looked at the flowers and chocolates he put on her bedside table.
"That... You like sweets... so I brought it all for you, and then I realized that I haven’t ever given you any flowers so I bought all this at noon to give to you..." Rui explained and pulled Cali in his warm embrace. She also instinctively wrapped her arms around him and felt herself relax in his arms.
He gently caressed her back and said, "Whatever it is that’s bothering you, Cali, I want you to tell it to . I am not just your fiance, but a friend as well. We are in this together, whatever it be. The sa goes for , Cali. I’m willing to share everything with you whether it is happy or sad tis. I love you, Cali, and I want to be a part of every mont of you... Cali started bawling again, hearing his heartwarming words, especially the three words she did not expect she would hear from him so soon. Rui said, ’I Love You’.
Cali broke free from his hug and muttered, "You love ?"
Sohow she wanted to hear Rui say the words again.
"Yes, Cali. I love you, and I want to marry you imdiately. Actually, I had different plans for tonight. At first, I thought to give you only the chocolates and flowers, and later prepare sothing special for a proper confession, but now I have changed my plans. Seeing you crying like this, I feel like I should first make you feel secure so you would trust enough and tell everything." Rui confessed and picked out the small box from his pocket.
He opened it and took the ring out. Cali could not help the flooding tears that continuously fell down her cheeks while she watched Rui put the ring on her finger.
"It’s beautiful... I love it Rui. I love you." Cali burst out and quickly hugged Rui. Maybe she was wrong in thinking about hiding everything from Rui. She was too scared, but she now felt relaxed and safe in Rui’s arms.
"Cali. You’re scaring and worrying ... Please tell , why are you crying?" Rui again asked.
"I’m scared Rui... I don’t want to lose you. I don’t want to leave Grandpa and Nanny Shine this early." Cali whispered.
Rui felt his heart sink. Cali’s words were terrifying. Sothing was going on with her that he didn’t know about. He hugged her tightly and kissed the side of her head. Stroking her back, he let her vent out for a while, and then pushed her a little to look at her face.
"Tell , Cali, what is it? I’m here with you, and I will stay forever by your side, Cali. Don’t be scared. I’m at your side, and we will battle everything together." Rui asked Cali, encouraging her to tell him what happened.
"I was experiencing a headache for a few days, and Shane suggested that I go for a checkup. I went to Dion and got all my tests done. They found a clot in my head and I would need another surgery to remove it. Dion gave a week before we’ll have the surgery. The success rate is fifty-fifty. I’m scared, Rui. I’m scared that I may end up not rembering you, or at worst, dying..." Cali wept.
Rui controlled his emotions and tried his best not to appear discouraged. He stroked Cali’s hair and whispered, "What are you saying? The operation will surely be a success, and we will grow old together with little Rui and little Cali, so don’t be scared. We still have a lot of things to do together, sweetheart."
Cali felt at ease, hearing those words from Rui. She felt his words boosted enough courage in her to be optimistic and ready to handle the situation.
They stayed there for quite so ti, and Rui cuddled her closely in his warm embrace.
Deep inside him, Rui felt weak and broken. He couldn’t shed a single tear as he had to be her pillar of strength, but his heart was crying, and an ominous feeling had started enveloping his heart. Even a single day was impossible for him to live without her, and when he heard the possibility of losing Cali, it was too devastating for him to bear, but he needed to be strong, and show Cali that everything would be okay.
"How about we marry as early as tomorrow?" Rui suddenly heard Cali whisper.
"I wanted to do everything that I love to do before I have my operation, Rui, and one thing I would love to do the most is to get married to you... And be your wife..." Cali confidently stated because it was honestly the first thing she wanted to do.
"Alright sweetheart, let’s do that first thing tomorrow. Tell everything, and I will grant all your wishes. Just make sure you won’t cry and get scared like this anymore. I want a fighter wife, so you must fight to live and bear many children in the future. I want a big family, so the more kids the better." Rui added with a tease.
Cali gently pulled herself to look at Rui properly and said, "How about you sleep here and give a lullaby?"
Rui pulled her once more into his warmth and replied, "Sure, sweetheart. Please put your heartbeat at ease and try to sleep. You have to keep yourself healthy and strong. I will stay here with you and sing you a lullaby. This is one of my favorite songs, sweetheart, and I really want to sing it to you."
Cali smiled and asked, "What’s the song?"
"Fly to the moon, sweetheart."
Cali closed her eyes and said, "Let hear it..."
Rui began to hum and sing..
