Chapter 729: 797: Do you think I’m joking with you?

In the desert, trying to start a fire to cook is quite a difficult task. The desert has been dubbed "The Land of Emptiness" and "The Barren Land" since ti immorial, precisely because if you look down from the sky, there’s nothing there at all, save for the occasional cold-resistant cactus?

But this was no problem for Liang’s little wife.

Dong Huiying fished out sothing black and lumpy that looked rather like coal and was about half the size of her fist. Once lit with the flint, surprisingly, it burned very hot and lasted a long ti.

With one hand holding the fruit, she heated the bottom of the pan with the black coal ball. In such harsh conditions, the thought of stewing was out of the question, but as for other dishes... well, there was still room for imagination.

She had Hong Xiangjun mix so flour with drinking water to make a batter, added a bit of oil to the hot pan, and poured in the batter. In no ti, a thin pancake was ready, and then she cracked an egg over it and added previously prepared seasonings like cumin and black pepper. Quickly, a pancake with an egg was done.

As she clanged and clattered deliciously, the scent was carried by the wind over to where Tu Ya and the others were.

Tu Ya was gnawing on her dry, hard rations when the aroma hit her throat, causing a lump to form and, with that... words could hardly express the misery she felt.

Hulan, drooling, said, "It slls so good. What are they making? How can it be so fragrant?"

Tu Ya gave Hulan a morose glance and muttered resentfully, "What fragrance? It stinks!" Having said this against her will, she turned away, rubbed her own stomach, and then viciously bit into her dry rations.

But...

The taste was like chewing wax, and her appetite was gone!

Unease doesn’t co from scarcity, but from inequality. If everyone were suffering together, there’d be no room for extraneous thoughts, but while one side is enduring hardship, the other is living it up, it’s impossible for the heart to remain calm.

Dong Huiying cooked several egg pancakes and then asked Liang Haoming to help slice the cured at into strips, which she then stir-fried in a smaller pan. By the ti the cured at was ready to co out of the pan, the small black coal ball had finished burning as well.

Hong Xiangjun marveled at this, "How is this black coal ball so effective? So small and unimpressive, yet it turns out to be a dark horse!"

Dong Huiying: "..."

Why did she feel like Hong Xiangjun’s words were sowhat ambiguous? As if there was a veiled ssage about her own self?

Forget it, she had the magnanimity of a small person, let’s not fuss about it; after all, it was a complint!

Hong Xiangjun: "???"

With the pancake wrapped around the cured at, the three of them had a satisfying al. Afterwards, Dong Huiying took several blankets off the cals and distributed one to each person.

"It’s getting dark!"

As the last trace of light disappeared into the horizon, Dong Huiying was already leaning against a sand dune, covered with a blanket, sitting with Liang Haoming in a spot together.

Hong Xiangjun stayed a bit away from the two. At that mont, the young girl suddenly threw a rope to them, the other end tied to eight cals.

"Hold on tight, or you might get blown away by the sandstorm later."

"There’s really a sandstorm coming?"

"Do you think I’m joking with you?"

"..."

After half an hour, the temperature began to drop, and the wind cut like knives.

Hong Xiangjun was shivering under her blanket from the cold; the difference between day and night temperatures was just too extre.

Dayti could kill you with heat, and nightti with cold!

Heavens above, what kind of cursed place is this!

Fortunately, Little Sister Dong was very forward-thinking, prepared for all aspects of living. Otherwise, if she had been alone in this desert, she feared she wouldn’t last many days before eting her maker.

Suddenly, in the darkness, the girl’s pupils contracted, "Here it cos!!"
