Evelyn’s POV

That morning, I was helping Alexis get dressed. Rowan and Rhys were already in their clothes, though moving slower than usual. They were still weak from their long illness, but eager to leave their beds.

"Mom, can we go outside today?" Rowan asked quietly from the bathroom.

I saw how Rhys leaned against the doorfra for support. After months in hospital beds, they desperately needed fresh air, but I worried about their strength.

"Just a small picnic in the nearby park," I promised, watching their faces light up. "But we’ll co back as soon as you get tired."

While Alexis didn’t understand why her brothers moved so slowly these days, she stayed close to them.

"Brothers, brushing teeth," Alexis announced.

Rowan expertly squeezed toothpaste onto her brush.

When she finished brushing, Rhys was already waiting with a small towel.

The brothers clearly enjoyed taking care of their little sister.

The three erged from the bathroom hand in hand just as I finished changing in the walk-in closet.

I smiled warmly at them. "Alexis, take your brothers to have breakfast. Mom will be there soon."

When I finally made it to the dining room, I found two n facing off - one cold as ice, the other burning hot. The tension between them was palpable, ready to explode at any mont!

My three little ones sat watching, one clutching a baby bottle and the other two holding glasses of milk, their eyes bouncing back and forth between the n in perfect sync. They looked so soft and adorable despite the tense atmosphere.

Gary and Calvin sat across from each other in the living room, locked in a silent standoff. Calvin’s Alpha aura filled the space, his energy overwhelming my friend’s defiant stance.

I could see how Gary struggled to keep his head up, refusing to submit to the Alpha even as his shoulders trembled. Calvin was clearly toying with him—one Alpha command would force Gary to bow his head, and they both knew it.

My three pups were crouched nearby, watching the adults with curious eyes. They didn’t understand the tension crackling between the two n—one my forr mate, the other my loyal friend.

Little Alexis tugged at her brother’s sleeve. Her round eyes sparkled with innocent confusion as she whispered, "Brother, your daddy isn’t talking."

Rowan nodded solemnly. "Mmhmm, and your uncle Gary isn’t saying anything either."

Rhys looked between them with bewildernt. "Are they playing freeze tag?"

I ignored the childish display in my living room and led my children back to the dining area. "Co on, let’s finish breakfast," I said gently, not wanting them to see grown n behaving like this.

Gary’s phone rang, the lab calling him away. Before leaving, he shot Calvin a venomous glare.

"Don’t get too comfortable," he growled, the warning clear in his tone.

Calvin returned Gary’s challenge with a cold, asured look—an Alpha unbothered by a lesser threat, his dominance never wavering. His silence spoke volus about his confidence.

As I helped the children with their breakfast, I glanced back curiously. What had Calvin said to provoke such hostility?

Gary approached , deliberately raising his voice. "Evelyn, you and your current mate should stay happy together. Don’t give certain undeserving Alphas any opportunities!"

He left imdiately after, abandoning with the cold machine of a man in my living room, whose dark, penetrating gaze remained fixed on .

The twins were thrilled to find their father ho when they woke. They eagerly pulled him to join us at the breakfast table. I didn’t object. I’ve always been the gentle mother in front of my children.

The boys moved around Calvin, getting him plates and utensils, sharing their breakfast, making sure Alexis and I had enough too. Over ti, as I’d grown closer to the twins, they’d shown their true selves. Little Alexis had helped bring us all together.

Whenever the four of us were together, we created our own bubble of warmth and joy. These family monts left both happy and afraid.

"Daddy, are you free today?" Rhys asked hopefully.

Calvin looked up from his plate and gently touched Rhys’s head. "What’s happening?" His voice had softened. The stern Alpha tone disappeared when he spoke to his son.

Rhys couldn’t hide his excitent. "Mom’s taking us for a picnic in the park today! If you’re not busy, could you co with us?"

I was about to remind everyone that Calvin would surely be too busy with his Pack duties, but he surprised by agreeing imdiately.

Not only did he have Zeon bring his luggage in, but he quickly changed clothes to join our outing, appearing remarkably relaxed.

However, just as we reached the entrance to the park, Calvin received a call from Clara’s hospital. Whatever the caller said made his expression darken as he turned to with complicated emotions swirling in his eyes.

"Clara seems to have had complications during surgery," he said.

I kept my emotions tightly leashed as I responded, "And?"

If it weren’t for my desire to let Clara suffer through the disfiguring effects of the toxin rather than die quickly, I would have given her sothing far more lethal than the bone-eating potion that was destroying her beauty. If she died on the operating table, it would only be karmic justice for her many sins.

Calvin explained patiently, "It’s a matter of life and death. I need to check on the situation. I’ll accompany you and the children another ti."

I couldn’t help rolling my eyes. He said there was nothing with Clara, yet one call made him break his promise to the kids. I was beyond angry, but I bit my tongue. I was furious, but I wouldn’t start a fight in front of the children.

Seeing my silence, he crouched down to explain to the children. Rowan and Rhys nodded understandingly. Alexis, not comprehending but following her brothers’ lead, nodded too, offering a radiant smile. Calvin affectionately patted her small head.

After reassuring the children, a black Maybach was already waiting at the park entrance with Zeon and security personnel standing by.

The children waved goodbye from the park entrance while Calvin got into his car and lowered the window. I kept my back to him, ignoring his departure completely.
