Evelyn’s POV
I wrapped my robe tighter around , ignoring the soft knocking at my door. After that confrontation with Calvin, I had no energy left to deal with Logan.
"Eve? Are you there?" Logan’s voice ca through the door again, softer this ti.
I remained silent, sitting on the edge of my bed.
After a few monts, I heard his footsteps retreating down the hallway.
A different knock ca minutes later—three sharp raps I recognized imdiately. Eryx.
I opened the door to find him standing there with a covered plate.
"You didn’t have dinner," he said simply. "I brought you sothing."
I stepped aside to let him in. "You didn’t have to do that."
"I promised Alexis I’d make sure you ate properly." Eryx set the plate down and removed the cover, revealing grilled steak with vegetables. He pulled out his phone and snapped a photo of sitting down. "Proof for the little boss."
I picked up the fork. "How is she?"
"Good. She and Gary have been video chatting. She’s asking when you’re coming ho." His expression softened. "She misses you."
I took a bite, surprised at how hungry I was. "This is really good."
Eryx leaned against the wall. "What happened tonight? Your clothes were dirty when you ca back."
"I was attacked in the alley."
"What?" Eryx straightened imdiately. "By who?"
"So guy with a knife. At least, he was supposed to look random." I cut another piece. "It felt staged."
"Calvin?"
I shook my head. "No. He actually helped."
Eryx’s jaw tightened. "I’ll look into it. There are security caras in that area."
"Do it quietly," I said. "We’re here for the land auction. Nothing else."
Another knock ca at the door. Eryx moved imdiately, positioning himself between and the entrance.
When he opened it, Calvin stood there, holding a small container of dicine. His eyes widened at seeing Eryx, then narrowed when he spotted . The marks from our fight were visible on his face.
"I brought sothing for the bruises," Calvin said.
Before Eryx could respond, Logan appeared in the hallway. His eyes took in the scene: Calvin at my door, Eryx blocking entry, in my robe.
"Eve?" Logan stepped forward. "Are you hurt?"
"I’m fine," I said flatly, continuing to eat.
"She has bruises," Calvin stated.
Logan’s eyes narrowed. "What happened? Did he hurt you?"
"No more than I hurt him," I replied coldly.
Calvin placed the dicine container by the door. "Apply this before bed."
He turned to leave but paused when Logan spoke again.
"Eve, I brought sothing from my grandmother." Logan held out an elegantly wrapped package. "She insisted I give it to you personally."
The ntion of Marcia made my appetite vanish. Instantly.
"Eryx, please take it," I said.
Eryx opened it, revealing an exquisite jade brooch. I recognized it imdiately. The very brooch Marcia had worn the day she threatened for "seducing" her precious grandson, declaring that even with all of Norse Pack’s territory, a wolfless Oga would never be worthy of being Luna.
"It’s beautiful," Logan said, expecting to be pleased. "She thought of you when she saw it."
"I’m sure she did," I replied, standing up. "Logan, this isn’t a gift. It’s a warning."
His brow furrowed. "What do you an?"
I walked to the door. "Your grandmother made it very clear years ago what she thought of . This is just her reminding to stay away from you."
"Eve, that can’t be right—" Logan started.
"It’s exactly right," I cut him off. "Goodnight, Logan."
Calvin had been watching this exchange intently. Without a word, he turned and walked back to his room.
"Take it. I don’t want anything from Marcia."
Logan looked stunned. "Eve, please talk to . What happened between you and my grandmother?"
"Ask her," I said, stepping back. "Now if you’ll excuse , I’ve had a long day."
Eryx moved to close the door, and Logan reluctantly backed away.
Once the door was shut, my shoulders sagged.
Calvin’s POV
I stared at the docunts spread across my hotel room table, my jaw tightening with each page I turned.
The investigation into Evelyn’s past in Duskwatch Bay had finally co back, and what I discovered made my blood boil.
While Evelyn had been studying in Duskwatch Bay, her mother had left her with the Eros Pack. Her mother’s pack, the Blues Pack, had once been the most powerful in Duskwatch Bay before going bankrupt and being absorbed by Eros Pack. Evelyn’s mother had only found safety after marrying Charles, the Alpha of Norse Pack.
Marcia, Logan’s grandmother, had put on a caring face around Evelyn. On the surface, she treated Evelyn with kindness, making her feel welco. But behind closed doors, Marcia encouraged pack mbers to bully and tornt her.
The situation worsened dramatically after Evelyn’s parents died. Once Evelyn beca an orphan, Marcia’s cruelty intensified. Beatings. Humiliation. Isolation.
"Fucking hell," I muttered, throwing a file across the room.
Cyra growled inside , his rage matching my own. "She was just a child. Alone."
No wonder Evelyn had fled Duskwatch Bay imdiately after graduation.
No wonder she had agreed to my father’s proposal, anything to escape that hell.
Now I understood the deadness I’d seen in Evelyn’s eyes when we first t.
What I had mistaken for coldness had been the look of soone who’d survived abuse.
I imdiately sent a mind-link to Beta Zeon.
"Alpha Calvin?" he answered imdiately.
"The Eros Pack shipnts at their docks, dump them in the ocean," I ordered, fury coursing through . "And shut down those docks. Imdiately."
"I’ll handle it right away," Zeon replied.
Marcia had another child besides Logan’s father, a daughter nad Sophia who had married into the Hayes family here in Ravenshade.
According to Diana, Sophia’s life was miserable. Her husband, Nathan Hayes, kept nurous mistresses.
"One more thing," I added. "Get photos of Nathan Hayes’ illegitimate children from overseas. Send them to Sophia."
I ended the call and leaned back against the sofa. If Marcia continued harassing Evelyn, I wouldn’t hesitate to ensure the Eros Pack found itself under new leadership. After all, Gary, who was close to Evelyn, seed to be Logan’s brother.
I stared out the window at the night sky, draining my glass of red wine. Marcia had no idea who she was dealing with.
A rhythmic knock ca at my door.
I opened it to find Simone standing there, holding a folder.
"Alpha Calvin, these are urgent docunts that need your signature," she said.
I didn’t take the folder. I never signed anything after drinking alcohol. Zeon knew this well, but Simone apparently didn’t. She had deliberately co at this late hour, wearing a dress noticeably tighter than usual.
My eyes turned cold. "Simone, if you can’t handle your responsibilities during normal working hours, perhaps you should visit HR for a different position."
Simone’s face paled instantly.
"I apologize, Alpha Calvin. It won’t happen again," she said hurriedly, pulling back the docunts. "I’ll leave imdiately."
