As Ren and her companions made their way down the hallway toward the back door leading to the vast periter on the right side of the castle, she could feel Arkilla’s apprehension. She was nervous herself, but there was no way she would let anyone see her fear.
"Stop making that ugly face, I’m not their prey, and I won’t let them hunt ." she objected, reaching for Arkilla’s hand.
Killa flinched at the touch, her eyes widening. "Oh, my fucking gods, you’re freezing!" She halted, pressing her palm against Ren’s forehead before frowning. "Your body temperature is normal. But your hands... they’re ice-cold."
"I wasn’t like this before," Ren admitted. "But ever since my magic core awakened, my hands have been cold, even while I burn inside."
"Damn!" Rail slurred, his eyes glued to Gloria with a lazy grin. "Do you see what I see, Org?"
"Oh, damn it, I see." Org’s gaze hardened, though his tone held disbelief. "We’re not drunk, are we?"
"No! Absolutely not! Water doesn’t make anyone drunk!" Rail assured.
Unlike Rail, Org bore a sterner deanor more like a younger version of Kai. But Rail, he had no issue displaying his emotions, especially toward won.
The only one who remained silent was Kai. And gods, he stole Ren’s breath the mont she laid eyes on him.
Oh, hell.
Why did he have to look so devastatingly handso tonight? Dressed in deep green, his presence commanded the space around him. His gaze, dark and unreadable, raked over her, devouring every inch. There was sothing different about him tonight, bolder, more authoritative, and utterly intoxicating.
"Wife," his deep voice resonated as he held out his arm for her. His gaze never swayed, pinning her in place.
Ren forced herself to breathe and took his arm. "Husband."
’Why did you block our mind link?’ Her voice slipped into his thoughts, smooth yet weighted. ’I wanted to apologize for assaulting your li...’
She froze. Oh, gods.
Had she just admitted to assaulting him? What in the na of the heavens was wrong with her?
A low chuckle vibrated through her mind. ’Oh, really, wife? You think you assaulted ?’ His voice dipped, teasing yet dark. ’That was barely a kiss. Well, I want more. Now that you’ve started it...’
Heat surged through her, spreading from her core outward. Damn it! Why did she bring it up instead of playing it off? She cursed herself for her shalessness, but she couldn’t deny the truth in her heart. The massive yearning for him.
She grasped for a distraction. "I haven’t seen Master Agara or Butler Siamon. Aren’t they joining us?"
Kai’s lips curved into a knowing smirk. "They’ll be joining us soon. I sent them to handle an issue." He guided her forward, his voice dipping lower as he asked, "How are you feeling? I was busy last night, and when I returned, you were already asleep. I didn’t wake you."
Her heart clenched at his words, battering against her ribcage as though it wanted to escape, to throw itself into his arms. So he was in their room in the morning but why didn’t Gloria see him leave?
’I loved your kiss. I’m sorry I left like that.’
With that ti stopped.
She barely had ti to process the words before she halted abruptly. Her breath hitched. Did he... just confess that he liked the kiss? Ren stared at him, unable to move. She killed herself with remorse, but he actually liked it!
Behind them, Arkilla grabbed Gloria’s hand and darted away. "We’ll wait outside. She’s safe with His Highness." Then, passing Rail and Org, she added, "Stop gawking and move. Now!" Each word was pressed with authority.
They obeyed, albeit grudgingly, with Rail muttering, "Did our Luna just cast so kind of spell on them? They look beautiful." He drawled those last words as he couldn’t believe they were the sa won he had seen a few hours ago. Org shot him a glare and nudged him forward, "Shut your mouth before you get us killed."
Now, in the silent hall, only Ren and Kai remained. The hot air of his confession pressed, causing a pull between them.
"Hm." His lips twitched, amusent flickering in his glowing gaze. "Should I kiss you?"
Her breath ca heavy as he brought his arm down, catching her hand in his. His touch was warm, and grounding. "Don’t panic," he murmured. "I’m joking. I’m taking you sowhere tonight. But first, let’s join the others."
Ren couldn’t move. She was pinned in place. His words still echoed in her mind, ’I loved your kiss.’
Before she knew it, her voice broke free.
"Kiss ."
The words rang through the hall, stark and undeniable. She gripped his arm, stopping him before he could take another step. His eyes widened. Gods. Only the heavens knew how much he wanted to.
But Shadow... That demon inside him, caged yet ever watchful, wasn’t sothing he could ignore or resist any longer. He wasn’t sure he could hold him back after kissing her again.
He wanted this woman, so much so that he had shattered the barriers he’d once built to keep his demon in check. Shadow wanted to please his father, to obey like a demon pet he chose to be. But he, Kai, wanted to change his father’s mind about himself, to gain freedom.
And yet... if there was a minor possibility that Shadow fell for this woman, would he spare her? Deep inside, Kai knew. If this girl died, he wouldn’t want to live either. But why? This couldn’t just be the bond.
She peered into his eyes, tears shining in those blue orbs, ’I know you want it. And screw that treaty.’ Her voice rang through his mind, fierce and unwavering. ’I’m allowing you to be truthfully my husband, Kaisun Al-Gathiran. And I’ll be damned if I ever betray you or take what you’re giving for granted. I’ll let you nurture , take my body, my heart, and I let you protect so I can protect us, and I will fight for this land until they accept . I swear it. I’ll use my power to protect this land that you hold dear. Do you take as your wife?’
It was a vow, a promise, spoken only between them. His heart pounded. Screw that treaty? She was a ball of fire, a surprising little thing. He should be rational, but a kiss wouldn’t kill her, right?
"Fuck," he muttered, snapping.
Grabbing the nape of her neck, he yanked her toward him, crashing his lips against hers. His left arm wrapped around her waist, crushing her against his body, and her stomach caressed his groin. Gods, he needed her, his damn desperate soul craved her despite her not being his mate and might be in danger of losing her life.
He wanted to strip her bare, claim her, kiss every inch of her skin. How had she done this? How had she undone him? The resolve he had spent years forging had crumbled the mont she bargained with him in their bed. She had lted him with a single kiss. And now, she owned him. A guttural groan rumbled through his chest as he sucked on her upper lip, devouring her taste. ’Gods, wife, you are delicious.’
Ren was wondering how he could even manage those words in their minds while she was so desperate to even make out where she was.
He bit her lower lip before plunging his tongue into her mouth, teasing, tasting, claiming. Ren was drenching. The world blurred into nothingness. Her body burned, warmth pooling deep in her core as ti seed to stop.
Then, when he deepened the kiss, sliding his tongue against hers, her mind broke. Her eyelids fluttered shut, and instinctively, she mimicked his movents. A satisfied growl vibrated through his chest as his hold tightened around her waist.
Her toes curled. A soft moan escaped her lips. Kai groaned. ’You’ll take to hell, wife, where I don’t want to go back.’ He moved suddenly, pressing her back against the wall. Sothing fluttered in her stomach and his leg pressed between her thighs.
But before they could drown completely and explore each other’s mouths to carve that kiss deeper into their minds, a sharp throat clearing shattered the mont. Kai pulled back, instantly shielding her against his chest, his glare snapping toward the intruder. If looks could kill, Agara would be nothing but a pile of ashes.
"Can you devour each other sowhere less public?"
Ren’s entire body burned with embarrassnt.
Kai exhaled sharply. "This is the wolf’s castle, cousin. If you see people kissing, or fucking, you walk off."
Agara snorted as he walked toward the doorway. "Unethical bastard of Thegara. She deserves better."
Ren buried her face deeper into Kai’s chest. Why? Why, in all the gods’ nas, did it have to be him who saw them?
This was mortifying. How was she supposed to look at his face and not be embarrassed? It was her first ti being kissed and it was... She scread in her mind.
"Ouch, Wife!"
