Ryle did not rember when was the last ti when he held a child. He knew he did for sure but it had been a long ti in the past and the mory of it had long gone blurry in his head. And out of everything that could have happened, he never expected Daisy to co and shove her child in his arms and disappear like a gust of air.
He had t Angel a long ti ago when Diana had just co to Los Angeles and was living with Maxim. And even then, Ryle had watched the little girl from a distance, saying that he was not good with children.
However, it was not that bad. He should have known it way before that he was good with anything and everything.
’’Give her that one,’’ Ryle pointed his finger towards the chocolate cake which Angel looked at every once in a while.
The three elite bodyguards of Harper Societies looked at each other helplessly. Ever since they were hired by Harper Societies, they had thought that they had bigger motives in their life seeing the kinds of missions they were dispatched to.
Never in their wildest dreams did they think that they would end up serving as waiters for a little girl, kneeling in front of her while holding plates of pastries in their hands.
’’What else do you want?" Ryle asked the little girl who was nestled in his arms.
That was the scene that Daisy witnessed when she entered the gardens, ’’What are you doing here?"
Ryle held the plate of dessert in one arm and Angel in the other as he stood up, ’’Waiting for you.’’
Daisy looked at the strawberry pastry on the plate before looking at the cream that was spread on both Angel’s and Ryle’s mouths.
’’Co,’’ she reached her arms towards Angel.
The little girl backed towards Ryle, hesitating for a mont before she pounced on her mother.
Ryle was taken aback by Angel’s actions for a few seconds. He must be so lovely that a child who ca to him for the first ti had second thoughts going back to his mother.
Daisy wiped the strawberry cream off Angel’s mouth, taking her own sweet ti doing that. When there was no more cream left on the little girl’s mouth, and Angel beca annoyed with the incessant rubbing, Daisy knew she could no longer delay the conversation with Ryle.
"Thank you."
Ryle looked away from Angel and glanced at Daisy. The woman t his eyes for a mont before she looked away. It was amusing how one kiss could ruffle her too much. She was trying not to show any expression on her face but he could see it all for so reason. She was shy, annoyed, frustrated, even angry at herself for having initiated it all, and confused about what to say to him.
"You don’t have to thank for this. I enjoyed her presence," Ryle said, and he really ant those words very well. In his long life of 29 years, he had only had this feeling twice that kids might not be that annoying after all. The second ti was with Angel and the first...
Ryle’s eyes darkened when his thoughts trailed off.
"Then... I’ll leave now..."
"Stop."
As Daisy turned to leave, Ryle walked to stand in front of her. He waved his hand, motioning his bodyguards to leave. The three n stood up from the ground with the plates in their hands and quickly escaped from the place.
Momma, they wanted their normal jobs back. There was no way they were ever again in their lives going to hold pastry plates in their hands for a child. Never again!
Little did they know, that the more you want sothing to not happen, the more are the chances of it happening.
Once they left, it was only Ryle, Daisy and Angel left in the garden area.
The soft breeze had Angel nestle her face deeper into Daisy’s neck as she lazily rested in her mother’s arms.
Daisy instinctively wrapped her other arm over the girl so she wouldn’t feel cold.
However, in the next mont, she felt a warmth enveloping her body as Ryle removed his overcoat and draped it over the both of them.
The man even stepped back and observed them for a mont before he stepped closer and adjusted the overcoat around Angel, securing her little head inside it till only her little nose and mouth peeked out in the dark.
Daisy was stunned. She had no idea what to believe or what to say.
She had always seen Ryle as a complex man, a ruthless man, a trickster, a hateful person so why was he falling into those characteristics that she had observed in him for so long? Was this all a pretense or had she never known him well in the first place?
"I know I am stunning but if you keep looking, I will feel shy."
Daisy averted her gaze. She inhaled a deep breath and composed herself, "What did you stop here for?"
"Don’t you think you should answer so questions of mine before you can leave this place?" Ryle questioned.
"Shoot."
"How is the situation inside?"
"Under control," Daisy replied off-handedly.
"How did you find here?"
"I asked the secret bodyguards of the Chen Family."
"Interesting," Ryle quirked a brow as he asked, "Do they keep an eye on everything?"
"Pretty much."
"Is that you handed Angel to so confidently?" Ryle questioned, looking at her face for an answer.
He could not understand why a woman like Daisy who seed so wary of him would act like that, regardless of what the situation was. That instance had been playing at the back of his mind for the past half an hour again and again. And the more he thought about it, the further he felt mystified.
"I suppose so."
Ryle frowned. What was he supposed to understand from ’I suppose so’? Was it hard for the woman to answer with a simple yes or a no?
"Still, I thought you disliked ."
"I do dislike you but I trust you," Once she finished speaking, Daisy left the place with Angel, leaving Ryle stunned.
Ryle stood rooted to his spot for a long ti before he raised his hand towards his face. As he touched his mouth, he could feel the curve of his lips and that had him stop smiling almost instantly.
Was he fucking possessed?
On the other hand, Daisy did not feel like there was sothing very odd about it. As Dexter, she had stayed by the man’s side for a long ti and she knew how things worked for him. He did what he said. She did not like his antics, but she knew that as long as one was not Ryle’s enemy, they could trust him with closed eyes.
Daisy turned around and looked at the party venue for so ti. Their father must be looking into the matter and their mother should as usual be concerned about the family’s reputation. She must have busied herself with handling the dia mbers.
"Mommy... sueeepy..."
Daisy stroked Angel’s back, "Sleep tight, then. Mommy will take you out of here," she rubbed the girl’s back, her movents briefly paused when she saw Ryle’s overcoat that was still draped over them but then she continued rubbing Angel’s back gently.
After a few monts, Daisy could feel Angel’s even breathing caressing her neck.
She took out her phone to book a cab but before she could do that, a car pulled up in front of her. The windshields lowered and a familiar face greeted her vision.
"Mr. Lu?" She thought the man must have left.
Lu Xian smiled, "Hop in. I’ll drive you ho."
"I am not..."
Before Daisy could finish her words, Ryle’s flashy sports car pulled up in front of Lu Xian’s, "Get in," the man did not even bother with the greetings.
Daisy’s lips twitched, "No thanks. I..."
"I’m going to et Maxim and Diana. It’s the sa way. If you want to stand here for the whole night in this isolated area, waiting for a cab, I have no intention of ruining your fun experience. However, I don’t want the child to suffer for free just because her mother felt a bit adventurous."
Lu Xian’s brows tugged together, "I can also drop you there."
"No need to bother yourself with it," Daisy turned the man down, "Since we are going the sa way, Mr. Harper won’t have any difficulties dropping there.’’
As she said so, she shot Ryle with a scathing glare.
Ryle pursed his lips, "Certainly. I ensure the top services."
Lu Xian looked like he wanted to say sothing else but in the end, he nodded, "Alright, take care of yourself and stay safe," Towards the end of his words, he glanced in the direction of Ryle’s car before he stepped on the accelerator and drove off.
As Daisy walked towards the road, Ryle alighted from the car and walked around it to open the door for her. He held the door in one hand and removed his overcoat from Daisy’s body, holding it in the other hand.
