Si Yena’s ankle was burned badly and as she staggered back, she seed to be balancing herself on one leg only.
Daisy pulled Ryle up, wrapping one of his arms around her neck while shifting his weight to herself.
’’You cannot manage to... Call Benjamin...’’ Ryle could feel his weight crushing her.
The fire was surrounding them, intensifying even more.
And looking at Daisy’s delicate stature, Ryle’s heart ached. No matter how strong she was, he could not watch her dragging a grown man like him out of this huge mansion.
He would allow her to take such risk, ’’Go out and send my people...’’
’’If you say another word, I will take you with and jump into the fire...’’ Daisy shot him a glare as she dragged him back.
Both of them did not pay attention to Si Yena and her eyes turned red.
The sound of helicopter blades above the mansion made Si Yena stagger, ’’You both were in cahoots all along...’’ She looked at Daisy’s retreating back, hatred filling her eyes, ’’As always, you still choose others. I let you go yet you betrayed ... Fine... Fine...’’
’Bang’
’Crash’
"Daisy!"
In one mont, the entire scene changed.
Si Yena shot at Daisy.
It was too late for Daisy to dodge as the burning main door crashed on them.
She bared her back to the attack but the pain never ca. She was pulled into a warm embrace.
’’Ryle!"
Blood trickled from the corner of the man’s mouth as he pressed his chin on Daisy’s forehead.
Daisy’s eyes were bloodshot. On instinct, she pulled out her gun and shot at Si Yena who was fleeing the scene through the back entrance.
The sound of the gunshot reverberated as the bullet plunged into her back, Si Yena landed on the floor with a thump.
...
’’Heh... Left... They all left...’’ As the fire enveloped the entire mansion from inside out, she laid on the cold floor under the staircase, looking at the door in the distance.
Suddenly, a damp sensation spread between her legs.
Si Yena froze for a mont before she slowly reached out.
When she brought her hand up, it was covered in blood.
’’Impossible...’’ she whispered, once again reaching out to feel the flesh that had slipped out of her body, ’’Impossible...’’
The woman’s heart-wrenching screams echoed in the sweltering flas.
She had not told Daisy about it when she talked about it.
But when things had started out with Nathan Kingsley, the man had been brutal with her.
After her accident, her body had already withered and combined with the beast’s actions, the doctor declared she could never get pregnant.
Hence, Nathan’s desperation to look for capable doctors when he wanted another heir to replace Ryle.
Her inability to conceive was also a reason why she did not really insist on protection when she was with Lu Xian.
And...
The re thought of that na filled her heart with inconsolable grief.
She hadn’t thought of him these days.
Now that she did, she couldn’t stop.
He had gone to the Kingsley Mansion, asking her to leave everything and start over. Had she agreed at that ti, then...
Si Yena touched her flat stomach and an unfamiliar void filled her heart.
Had he co to her a few years ago, then she would have gone with the boy she had fallen for when she was young, since there was a huge gap in their families and she could not really approach him. She would have given them a chance.
He ca too late.
It was too late for her to step back.
Si Yena burst out in laughter.
As she laughed maniacally, she curled into a ball while hugging her stomach.
For the first ti in her life, she regretted what she had done to Angel and for the very first ti, she knew what Daisy must have felt back then.
It was too late.
She laughed and laughed till only tears were left.
And then she cried as the fire started engulfing her.
...
’’Stop crying, Daisy... I am perfectly fine...’’ Diana’s voice rang in the hospital hallway where Daisy stood with a phone in her hand. The sisters had facetid each other, ’’If not for the people you left to guard us, I would have suffered. It’s a pity that they...’’
Diana’s voice trailed off. The captain had died saving her. And it had impacted her more than the wound.
But seeing Daisy’s disturbed state, she did not push it any further.
The cara shifted, landing on baby Elias who was sleeping peacefully by his mother’s side on the hospital bed.
’’Tilt the phone a bit. How can she see us both like that?" Diana fiddled with Maxim’s hand to teach him how to hold it properly.
But Maxim grabbed her hand and intertwined their fingers tightly.
Even though they were separated by miles, Daisy knew how anxious Maxim must have been.
Diana chided Maxim a little before pulling him close to sit next to her. Turning the front cara on, she spoke up, ’’Is Angel really alright?" As she spoke, tears rolled down her eyes, ’’At that ti, I regretted not learning martial arts diligently when we were young. I...’’
’’Now you stop crying,’’ Daisy smiled softly, ’’Angel is doing fine. The things that happened there affected her a lot. She had a bad fever but Ivy has been taking care of her. Aunty Lu is also there. All is good.’’
Diana looked relieved. She then opened her mouth to say sothing but after a while, she did not really say anything.
Hesitation marred her face, ’’Maxim called Benjamin but he was unsure of the current status and whatever he said was vague. He said he is dealing with the aftermath of things... I felt like he was just feigning ignorance... How...’’ Diana’s eyes welled up with tears again.
Maxim took the phone from her, ’’How is Ryle?"
Daisy’s smile faded a bit. After a while, she slowly shook her head.
