It was all fun and good till Ryle received a call two days ago. Since he was with her, she noticed the way his expressions changed. It was almost the sa as it had been a month ago at her office when he got a call.
When she asked him, he said it was nothing but she could tell sothing was bothering her.
And her doubts beca clearer when Ryle told her he would be going to the US, back to his mansion.
It took her so ti to conclude that Ryle must have proceeded with the DNA test to confirm whether the woman he had found this ti was his sister or not.
She encouraged him and sent him there, asking him to call her the mont he needed her. He texted her when he got there. But now that there was yet to co a confirmation from him, Daisy was on the edge too.
She missed him too. That was another thing.
"If you are worried about him then make the call. There is no point in struggling with yourself like this,’’ Ivy said with a shake of her head as she pulled Angel in a bear hug.
The little girl giggled and fell into Ivy’s arms, montarily distracted from her conquest of calling Ryle.
"But he might...’’ Daisy trailed off.
Right. It was different from the last ti he had gone to the US when she was thinking about him but also holding back from calling him.
Now that he made himself into her ’boyfriend’ as he calls it before he left, he should also do so boyfriendly things and keep her updated about his well-being before she worries herself to death.
Daisy motioned towards Ivy that she would make a call who gave her a teasing look and distracted Angel quickly.
As Daisy called Ryle’s number, she walked back to her room. The phone continued ringing but nobody answered it. Until the last ring.
’’Hello.’’
A familiar voice but not Ryle’s.
’’Benjamin,’’ Daisy addressed the man who had left with Ryle, ’’Is Ryle busy?"
’’Ah... Boss, No... H-He...’’
’’Why are you stuttering?" Daisy frowned, ’’Is everything alright?"
The worst case scenario popped up in her head. Did the DNA reports reveal that that woman was not Ryle’s sister? In that case, Ryle might not be in the right mindfra at this ti.
’’Pass him the phone. Wait... Forget it. Tell him that I will be there...’’
’’No... No... Miss Chen, you misunderstood,’’ Benjamin spoke up, sounding far calr than he did initially, ’’Boss is just in a bad mood so everyone is on the edge. He must be missing you but he is currently held up in business which is why I had to answer your call.’’
Daisy sighed in relief, "Is he busy?"
’’Yes. He has not been around for so long and now that he has co back, a lot of work has piled up in the company. He hasn’t had his als either. He must be missing the food there....’’ the man trailed off and talked to soone on the other side saying that he will be there, ’’Miss Chen, I am needed in the eting. I will tell Boss that you had called.’’
’’Sure,’’ Daisy hung up the call.
It was a relief that things had not reached the worst point as she had thought.
But still... Benjamin’s words echoed in her head.
After giving it so thought, she called a number.
"I need so help.’’
...
Los Angeles, California.
’’I never thought there would co such a day,’’ Maxim said, his eyes occasionally gazing at Diana while he tried to keep his focus on the road.
Diana shifted her attention from the little boy who was fast asleep in her arms. When she looked up, she caught him staring, "Look ahead, you silly,’’ the man imdiately complied like a guilty child who was caught stealing a candy.
’’You look so beautiful in the black dress. When can I take it off?"
’’You would say that even if I wear a potato sack,’’ Diana looked at her plain solid little dress and sighed softly. Her body had undergone several changes after she gave birth and perhaps it was all the good food that Maxim kept feeding her, she had put on so weight, her curves more distinct and her cheeks rather plump. When she was at ho, she did not even bother to put on decent clothes and mostly worked in her nightgowns but the man still acted like he could not take his off her.
At this point, she had gotten rather used to his antics but sohow, she was still amused.
’’Forget it,’’ she shrugged, ’’What day were you talking about just now? What did you not expect?"
’’A day when Daisy asks us to keep checking up on Ryle and make sure he is eating. Also..’’ he pointed his chin at the packaging lying in the backseat, ’’Deliver him ho-cooked food.’’
Diana laughed, ’’Says the one who cooked all this food when he heard it was for his best friend,’’ she found it imnsely hilarious how Maxim maintained a poker face whenever Ryle called him bestie but then he went behind his back and pulled all these bestie stunts.
When Daisy had called her and told her about this, Maxim imdiately took the task into his hands.
Maxim sighed, ’’He is with your sister now. If he starves himself to death, she will be sad. If she becos sad, you will be sad.’’
Diana shook her head in amusent as Maxim pulled the car in front of Ryle’s glass mansion in Arkell Hills, ’’I told you already that they are into each other the last ti I saw them. You were having doubts about it.’’
Maxim did not say anything. It was true that while there were signs, he had not given it much thought. Those two people were just too different from each other in his opinion, like fire and water so he could imagine how they could possibly end up together but well...
Diana rang the doorbell just as little Elias woke up in her arms and rubbed his eyes, a little whiny, ’’Shhh... Be good, we will see Uncle Ryle okay?"
’’Hand him to ,’’ Maxim passed the food bag to Diana and took Elias from her just as the door opened.
Locke stood at the entrance, briefly surprised when he saw Maxim and Diana. Although he had not had any significant interactions with them, he had known their connection with Ryle hence he was respectful in his stance.
’’When will Ryle be here?"
’’Master... isn’t he in Beijing...?" the words slipped from Locke’s mouth almost instantly before he trailed off, seeming to realize that sothing was wrong as he saw their reactions.
