Swinging his feet, he kicked his body forward towards her until he reached her. He sat up after a few struggles and leaned next to her, ’’Alice...’’ he nudged her shoulder, calling to her again and again until her eyelashes trembled.
Her eyes slowly opened.
Up so close, he could see the dried tear stains on her cheeks.
’’Brother Chen, you are awake?" her voice was hoarse and more tears rolled down her cheeks.
Her hands and legs were tied as well but the little girl sohow managed to find the strength to pounce on him. She buried her tiny face in his shoulder as she cried, ’’I tried to call you so many tis yesterday but you did not listen to at all. Those bad people said you died. I was scared but then they checked you and said you are alive...’’
’’There there...’’ Helian Chen consoled, his voice gentle enough to put the little girl’s worries to rest.
Once she was calm, he asked her about the bad people she was talking about.
And as it turned out, they were kidnapped by a group of few people. He was struck unconscious by them but Angel was awake the whole ti so she heard them talking.
’’It’s okay. I am here with you,’’ he whispered coaxing words to the little girl over and over again, knowing that she must have been frightened being awake the whole ti in such a circumstance when he was unconscious.
She had just cald down when the sound of approaching footsteps frightened her again.
Two n stepped inside the dark room from one of the doors.
"What do you want from ?" Helian Chen asked without beating around the bush. From Alice’s words, he concluded that he was their target but she was unnecessarily implicated in this matter because of him.
’’It seems like you are awake finally. Tell us where your father is.’’
Helian Chen remained quiet. His father had gone to Japan on a business trip. It seed to him like these people were trying to use him as bait to lure his father out.
’’Why are you looking for my father?" he could not understand why his father would beco the target of such people.
One man stepped forward and stomped his boot on the little boy’s face, pressing his face to the wall.
’’Tell us where he is, brat and you might still breathe till he arrives.’’
Helian Chen still remained quiet.
’’Brother Chen...’’ Alice sobbed as she struggled to reach out to him.
The little boy breathed softly, ’’I am fine...’’
The boot pressed harder on his face before the imposing pain disappeared.
Both the n glanced at each other and the other man went to drag Alice by her hair but before his hand could touch her hair, a childish but cold voice rang out.
’’Not everyone can track my father down. And my father does not have a second son for you to hold hostage to threaten him, that is, no more weaknesses. If you touch a single hair on her head, I will never open my mouth even when I die.’’
The n would not have taken him seriously before considering his age but the boy had an aura that did not let them underestimate him. His cold gaze seed to be able to pierce through them. Even in the face of death, he seed to be stubborn to his bones.
’’Then, tell us...’’
When Helian Chen did not answer their questions, one of the n grabbed him by his neck and swung him across the room as if he were a broken toy.
He fell near the other side of the wall.
"Ahhh!’’ Alice cried as she burst into tears, ’’Brother Chen,’’ Despite her scraped knees, she tried to crawl to him.
The n did not pay her any attention. One of them walked towards him and threw a harsh kick at him.
His head banged against the wall as blood trickled down his white shirt.
’’Don’t think we will back off because of your threats,’’ the man squatted on the floor and clutched the boy’s jaws, ’’You know why we are looking for your father?"
The boy’s eyes were closing but when he heard the question that was there in his mind, he tried his best to look at the man.
’’He uprooted our businesses in the last four years on established these charity institutions in our base to play the saviour of the world. We have been wandering around like filthy street rats,’’ the other man said.
The door opened and two more n stepped in, gauging the situation in front of their eyes.
’’Business?’’ Helian Chen’s mocking voice stunned the four people who were staring at him viciously, ’’Human trafficking cartels, you an.’’
Their faces changed when they realized that the boy seed to be aware of their identities and they could not manipulate or coerce him emotionally.
Helian Chen was intricately involved in the family business by his father ever since he was young so he was aware of the major events of the company. Even the orphanage that Angel ca from was one such institution that was built on the base of these criminals who were involved in human trafficking.
’’It was not my father. He brought those lands with money and made full... investnts,’’ the boy’s voice was unstable and his words were incoherent but his eyes were still clear as he spoke, ’’It was the governnt and your own enemies who contributed to your downfall. My father has nothing to do with it,’’ his father was an upright businessman who prioritized his family. Never once had he gotten involved in the matters of the underworld and he imparted the sa teaching to him as well.
Helian Chen called out to her many tis but when there was no response from her, he looked around the place once again before he slowly twisted his body to fall on the ground.
