Vixen.

That was the first word that ca to mind when my eyes connected with green orbs.

She was in another box just opposite ours, and the cage lay between us like a barrier.

I could barely detail or tell what she looked like, but I saw enough to assu. It was easy when you have been in the line of power for so long, you recognize soone like that.

And I knew without a doubt that it was her.

A black veil covered the lower half of her face, and judging by the way her eyes lit, she was smirking.

Anticipating the fight? Or just taunting . I’ll settle for the latter because that was exactly what she had been doing for the last few months, and had caused an uproar in my city.

Her na was on everybody’s lips; they even feared her, too. Did she display strength? No... she used the simplest yet most dangerous thod to grow in power. Information.

They talked about her. They spoke of how she began simply playing gas like a woman who ca to spend her daddy’s money.

They ca to her like ants spilling whatever they had to get her on their side to use to their advantage.

It was a basic thod here, but what none of them anticipated was that she was never a stranger to begin with.

The fight began, but I no longer paid attention. Our eyes beca an unspoken battle as questions circled my mind.

The itchiness in my body beca worse because it felt like I was gonna sohow teleport to that box and rip that fucking veil off. She’s toying with , and it’s getting on my nerves.

Why not co to as my associate? Why not present herself if she claims she’s on my side? It’s almost as if she’s challenging ... my authority, and the last person that did that was about to be buried and forgotten.

The cheers drowned, and the bawl beca bloodied, but none of us paid attention. It was like I was trapped as I tried to unravel her.

But then my face turned stone cold, not wanting to dwell on eyes that weren’t hazel. There was only one woman who could allure .

This felt like an insult to Catherine.

It annoyed how easily enticed I was... Those green eyes were staring into my soul, and everything was seen.

I tried to stay locked on the event, but the burn on my face compelled to veer my eyes back to the very thing I was trying to avoid.

It was almost as if she knew I was growing uneasy, even though I showed nothing of it. I remained stiff where I was and unblinking, my gaze turning colder and colder until it seed like I was gonna freeze her right then.

So far, she hasn’t taken her eyes off . She wasn’t affected by my impassivity. It takes a level of audacity to do that and not shrivel.

The winner was called out, and I was oblivious to who won or if I lost a bet and a shit ton of money.

Vixen broke our staring contest, waving her lace glove hand for soone who leaned down to her. She handed him a card, and I followed the movent briefly before settling them back to her.

Vixen tilted her head as if indirectly speaking to . I looked away, concentrating on Carlo as he ranted, but his words were fading before they could reach .

A few minutes later, soone tried to reach , but my n stopped him, and he simply handed a card that was brought to .

That sa card.

I took it, awaiting that signature of hers, but to my surprise, she wrote this ti, the words were typed, and it once again proved that she had anticipated this outco.

This was what irked the most. She knew my every move, and that was one thing I despised; it made predictable, especially towards a person I don’t know.

You made an excellent choice picking the skinny one, Don King.

I read the contents, my chest rising and falling heavily. I could feel the vein beneath my jawline straining.

"Nico..."

"Boss?"

"Gather the n... shut that box down. No one gets out. Do it quietly."

"On it."

I went back to our contest, making sure I added more intensity to lock her down, but to my shock, she suddenly pushed to her feet and turned away.

Fuck.

I rose to my feet, ignoring Carlo’s words. I was quick as I circled the corridor, my n moving fast.

With a nudge of the head, the ones following behind dispersed.

The more of them, the more grounds they would cover. I didn’t mind being alone...I’d just observe from here.

I slow down my walk, moving close to the railing. From this spot I saw farther away, but it was the best place to catch any movent. The structure and the entrances it had were seen from here.

Suddenly, the soft clicking of heels filled my ears. I didn’t turn instantly because right at the corner of my eye I could see a movent.

It’s her. She ca to before I could. Smart move.

A ghostly smile flashed on my lips. "This is not a ga... Let’s end whatever this is..." I pushed off the stone and faced her.

I hated when I wasn’t the one playing the ga. So far, she had proven to be a pain in the ass.

Vixen just stood there at the end of the corridor where the lights flickered due to a fault, or maybe it was done on purpose to make this more dramatic.

I still can’t make her out. Her clothing must be dark because she blended seamlessly with the darkness. The only thing more prominent was her green eyes.

I thought about moving, but I had a feeling the mont I did, she was gonna leave.

The silence dragged on, as if gearing up for who was gonna make the first move.

Her... or .
