Chapter 69: Alien
Mu-yeong pressed difficulty select, and the prologue video began to play imdiately.
It opened with a vast expanse of outer space.
He watched for a mont as stars twinkled and asteroids drifted past.
Whoooooosh!
A massive spacecraft shot past, spewing flas.
Mu-yeong was taken aback.
"Good heavens—do things like that truly exist? Not in the sky, but an object that flies through space?"
—They do exist lol
—But don't expect that just yet
—Probably another 100 years minimum?
—We're not quite at that level yet
—A spaceship a little less advanced than that, yeah
An astonishing reality he had never imagined.
But even that shock didn't last long.
A cluster of light that had been hurtling from far away collided with the spacecraft.
Boom!
The scene shifted.
A room packed with complex instrunt panels and multiple monitors.
One of them began to glow red.
Beep. Beep. Beep.
—Lmao scary
—Oh no, ergency
—Sothing hit it, that must be why
—If they don't fix it fast they're done for
The blond man seated at the head of the room stared at the word 'WARNING.'
Floating on his chest was the label 'Captain Richard.'
Richard tapped the microphone a couple of tis and spoke.
"Jade, an anomalous signal's been detected from the engine bay—go take a look, would you? Sothing seems to have malfunctioned."
"........"
No answer. Richard repeated himself.
"Jade, are you listening? There seems to be an issue in Engine Room 2. Please go check it out quickly."
Continued silence.
Richard let out a heavy sigh and spun his chair around.
Then he looked directly at Mu-yeong.
"Seems like the engineer is tied up with sothing. So, Mu-yeong—go take a look for , would you?"
The mont Richard finished speaking, Mu-yeong was finally able to move his body.
He opened and closed his fist a few tis, then answered.
"Sure."
As he nodded, a mission appeared at the top of the screen.
0%
[Objective Updated: Investigate whether there is an anomaly in Engine Room 2 at the rear of the spacecraft.]
Mu-yeong stepped out of the cockpit and first checked his condition.
His Energy Center felt as rigid as stone, completely unresponsive.
"So this ga doesn't let you use Internal Energy at all—just like Castle Defense."
—You planning to blow up the whole spaceship or sothing lol
—It's a horror ga, what would you even do with internal energy lol
—Yeah then it'd be a hunting ga, not horror lol
—The whole genre would change lol
—Absolutely not lol
Still, his body itself was the sa as always.
Mu-yeong jumped lightly a few tis, then checked the map.
The objective was located as far from his current position as possible.
"Quite a ways to go. Of all the luck—one end to the other."
—Isn't that so you can take a good look at the interior?
—Might as well get a feel for the map while you're at it lol
—The developer wants you to find places to hide
—Let's just go
Mu-yeong started moving while watching the map.
He walked along the main corridor for so ti.
Before he knew it, while taking in the mysterious interior, he had arrived at the engine room.
"This must be it."
Fwoooosh.
As he drew closer, the door opened automatically.
Once inside, sothing right beside him was flickering.
—That's it
—Looks like a fuse tripped and caused the problem
—Maybe it overheated?
—Just flip it back up
—Let's go
Mu-yeong lifted the handle of the tripped fuse upward.
The surrounding lights that had gone out ca back on.
The engine that had stopped began slowly moving again.
"That was a simple mission."
Having confird it was working properly, Mu-yeong turned his back.
Just as he was about to exit the engine room—
—Grrrrrr.......
A hair-raising, chilling sound reached his ears.
Sothing in an impossibly deep register that no human could produce.
It was the kind of sound a beast makes right before it hunts.
—Damn;
—What was that sound?
—So it wasn't just
—Holy hell, that startled
The unidentified noise disappeared just as quickly as it ca.
In its place, a radio transmission from Richard ca through.
—The alarm's gone quiet. Must not have been much if you solved it that fast. Good work.......
Beep! Beep! Beep!
—Damn, what now? It's Engine Room 4 this ti. Mu-yeong, sorry to ask while you're already here—check that one too, would you?
[Objective Updated: Go to Engine Room 4 and check whether there is a problem.]
It was a room about 10 ters from his current location.
Mu-yeong advanced slowly, keeping his senses sharp in all directions.
There should have been sothing registering on his Energy Sense, but not even a rat was detected.
"Strange. There was definitely sothing there......"
—For real
—This is so unsettling
—I just turned my lights on lmao
—Scaredy cat lmao
He went ahead and entered Room 4 as instructed.
But the interior was so severely damaged that he could barely set foot inside.
Crackle...... crackle crackle......
Sparks flew wildly from several severed wires.
A few components had lted away as if hit by acid.
It looked as though soone had deliberately broken everything.
An indescribable, stale stench made him involuntarily scrunch his face.
"This is no simple malfunction. Soone is definitely here."
Just as Mu-yeong knelt on one knee and was about to begin his investigation—
A man's scream rang out from deep within the engine room.
"AAAAAARGH!"
—??
—??
—Whoa
—What is that?
The anguished cry made Mu-yeong dash out imdiately.
He passed through one more door, and there was a creature he had never seen before—its arm driven straight through a man's abdon.
—Oh my god
—RUNRUNRUNRUN
—Get out of there
—What the hell is that thing?
—That thing looks absolutely terrifying
—So it finally shows up lol
Even Mu-yeong, who feared nothing in this world, felt his muscles lock up at this mont.
.....What is that?
A massive body standing roughly 3 ters tall.
A hard-looking black carapace, large spines jutting from its back, a tail as long as half its body.
And more.
There was a head, but no eyes—only a mouth and a nose.
Monster.
That was the only word that ca to mind.
Fwoosh!
The unknown creature yanked its arm out.
On the chest of the man who had fallen to the floor was a na tag that read 'Jade.'
—So he didn't refuse to answer—he couldn't
—He ca to check on the problem first and then...
—That's tragic
—He's not going to survive that, is he?
But this was no ti to worry about soone else.
—Grrrrrr.......
Because the monster had turned its head toward Mu-yeong.
It grinned.
Sharp fangs bared for all to see.
A drop of saliva fell from between them and hit the floor.
Tsssss.
It lted.
Looking at the pitted groove it left behind, Mu-yeong let out a hollow laugh.
"So this is why they called it a horror ga."
—Lmaooooo
—Alright, the real ga starts now lol
—First order of business: run?
—In Hell Mode you can't even run away properly lol
—If it were , I'd have frozen right there lol
[Objective Updated: Find sowhere to hide.]
The mont Mu-yeong saw the mission, he bolted for the door.
—SCREEEEEE!
The creature ca thundering after him.
The floor shook as if an earthquake had struck.
Even out in the corridor, it was the sa.
—Run lmaooooo
—You're dead if it catches you lol
—Do NOT look back lol
—If you don't find sowhere to hide fast you're done lol
In every horror ga, there is one unspoken rule that always applies.
If you don't look back while running, you will never be caught—but if you make eye contact with the enemy, you die.
There's a rumor that they intentionally slow its pursuit speed to build tension, but there was no way Mu-yeong would know that.
Out of curiosity, he briefly turned his head.
Swooosh!
The monster closed the gap in an instant and swung its arm.
It looked ready to shatter Mu-yeong's head in a single blow.
It was obvious to anyone watching that he was about to end up in the sa state as Jade.
—Oh no—
—He's dead lol
—Gg
—Even the great Mu-yeong can't handle an alien lol
—Just retry
—You could just run and hide in a cabinet, that's all you really need to do
Just as everyone expected death—
Mu-yeong twisted his body.
Crash!
The monster's arm slamd into the wall of the spacecraft.
With no satisfying impact to show for it, the creature tilted its head in confusion.
—Krrk?
The viewers shared the sa reaction.
—?
—??
—?
—What?
—Why is he still alive?
—How did he do that?
This wasn't just any genre—it was a horror ga.
And Hell Mode, at that, where even a graze ans death.
As far as anyone knew, the alien on the hardest difficulty had never failed to land its attack.
The only way to evade it was to keep your distance and get inside a cabinet.
And even that couldn't be sustained indefinitely.
Because the sharp-witted alien would continuously search every place a player might hide.
So what on earth was this?
"If you co at telegraphing your Killing Intent like that, there's no way I can't dodge it."
—This is actually happening?
—That's actually dodgeable???
—Is this a bug?
—What the lmaooooo
Swish.
Mu-yeong picked up a fire extinguisher rolling around at his feet.
As everyone held their breath in disbelief, he swung it into the alien's leg.
Clang!
—Lmaooooooo
—Lmao what
—Run away, why are you attacking lol
—This is not a boss-fighting ga lmao
—Why is he playing Monster World by himself lol
—The genre suddenly changed lmaooooo
It was bold, but that was as far as it went.
No matter how exceptional his physical ability, he absolutely could not defeat the alien.
He might be able to make it stagger or buy so ti, but killing it was impossible by design.
After all, it had been built to be invincible from the start.
Whoooosh!
The enraged alien swung its spine-covered tail.
Having anticipated it, Mu-yeong lightly leaped backward to dodge, and the tail, having lost its target, slamd into the wall even harder.
—He actually dodged that?
—Just how good is his reaction speed lol
—I can't believe what I'm seeing
—Why is this guy trading blows one-on-one with an alien?
—This man is insane lmaooooo
—Break the story, just break the story lmaooooo
He exchanged around ten blows like that.
To be precise, it was Mu-yeong doing all the one-sided hitting.
But I don't seem to be dealing any damage at all. Finding another approach should co first.
Mu-yeong prepared to flee again.
At that sa mont, gunshots rang through the corridor.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
"Mu-yeong, get over here quickly! I'll take down that creature!"
"Richard?"
"I saw it on the CCTV and grabbed a gun and ran straight out! Sorry for being late!"
He took aim at the creature.
Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang!
—SCREEEEEEE!
But the bullets ricocheted off the thick carapace.
Just as Richard's face was about to fall into despair, the alien leaped up into the ventilation duct above.
Its presence vanished in an instant.
"A-are you alright? But what on earth was that creature? Could it be the thing that triggered the warning alarm earlier?"
"It would seem so. I checked Engine Room 4, and Jade was already dead."
"Oh no....... That can't be. How could this happen......!"
Richard cried out in anguish.
But he quickly rose to his feet with a steeled expression.
"We need to put together an ergency plan imdiately. I'll go to the cockpit and seal all the doors—you round up everyone and bring them together in one place."
[Objective Updated: There are 8 crew mbers total aboard the Odyssey. Bring those who are still alive to the cockpit.]
As the mission changed, Richard handed Mu-yeong his gun.
"This'll let you defend yourself for the ti being. If you're ever in danger—you see that cabinet over there? Get inside and hide. You'll be safe in there."
—We don't need a gun, Captain
—All we need is a fire extinguisher lol
—There's a human weapon right here, what do you need that for lol
—Honestly if there were HP, Mu-yeong probably would've won lol
"Understood. I'll see you shortly."
"Good luck."
Richard disappeared from view in no ti.
Mu-yeong, now alone, looked around at the chaos surrounding him.
He spotted a cabinet that was remarkably undamaged.
He opened the door and stepped inside.
Creeeak. Thud.
"So this is what 'find sowhere to hide' ant."
—Lmaooooo
—Just figured that out? lmaooooo
—Fighting was never part of the plan lmaooooo
—Never seen anyone go one-on-one with an alien before lol
—Is this actually a horror ga? lol
Mu-yeong stepped back outside.
He slung the gun over his shoulder and checked the map.
"First, I'll try to find any survivors. Might as well hope to run into that thing again on the way."
['Alien' has donated 1,000 Won.]
—Ah, that's a bit lol
An oddly thrilling alien hunt had begun.
