Hundreds of people were marching into a thick pile of snow; based on the direction they ca from, they were those refugees from Winterbell City.
rcenaries, rchants, and children strode their way to move as far as they could; however, one man was walking and heading to the place they were escaping.
Eyes glared at him with curiosity, their minds filled with questions about his actions. Then a group of rcenaries chose to approach the man.
"Perhaps you’re going to the capital?" An older man who seed to be the party’s leader asked as soon as they blocked the man’s path.
The man halted his steps and looked into the leader’s eyes.
"Hmnn, I have so business at the castle," he answered.
"You should postpone that for the anti. A battle is expected to start any second by now," the leader replied.
"Yes, and the castle is believed to be the main setting of the fight," another man from the party chid in while the rest nodded, agreeing to their comrade’s words.
"Hmnn, how thoughtful of you guys, though my companion is already waiting for at the capital," the silver-haired man replied with a smirk on his lips, then he resud his steps and forced his way through the crowd.
The rcenaries, along with other people who watched for the scene to unfold, were dumbfounded. They had no ill intentions and just wanted everyone’s safety; however, the man ignored their warnings and chose to embrace his own demise, and so they thought.
. . . . .
Kizeler exerted most of his energy into his legs to reach the castle as fast as possible, but contrary to his fear, the situation stayed the sa; knights were still guarding the entrance.
’Was it just my delusion?’ He thought while catching his breath.
Then, as his breathing returned to normal, he approached the guards, but they all unsheathed their swords and pointed them at Kizeler.
"This place is restricted at the mont. Please turn around and leave!" One of the knights exclaid.
"Woah, chill!" Kizeler stated, raising his arms in the air.
’How many tis do I need to explain myself today?’ He sighed, then spoke in a hurry.
"Do you guys notice if a man and a woman passed by here just a few monts ago?" He asked.
"There is no such thing," the sa knight answered without dropping his guard.
"Please leave! Don’t wait for us to use force," another knight remarked, and their weapons began to emit a chilling sensation.
Kizeler stepped backward upon feeling the intense spectacle building up in the air. Despite the fact that he could overpower the knights with his Legacy alone, he believed that doing so would result in a much bigger commotion.
So he distanced himself and observed from a nearby area while looking around to search for the pair that he had encountered earlier.
. . . . .
On the other hand, up in the air of the castle, hiding above the clouds, were two people staring at a figure. The woman had her eyes gleaming, and her lips had this arc that almost reached her ear while the man was busy puffing smoke like there was no tomorrow.
"He seems interesting... and he’s quite cute," Djaneryse uttered while stroking the doll placed on her chest.
"Another one for you to collect?" The man at her side comnted while checking the golden piercings on his left ear.
"Sshh, you’re not allowed to speak when it cos to my collection." The woman looked beside herself, glaring as she conveyed her words.
Then she returned her gaze to the black-haired man with ssy hair and curled arcs on the corner of her lips appeared once more.
"Hey, Rain, do you think they found it?" Djaneryse asked without averting her eyes from the man.
"Did you really think that searching for a few days would do?" Rain chuckled, and he flicked the cigarrette on his finger.
"I’m not expecting, but I’m still hoping, you know," the woman chuckled.
"Then let’s get started, shall we? Let’s find out if this hope of yours is not just a pipe dream," Rain stated, and Djaneryse’s soft laughter echoed in the atmosphere.
Afterward, she pinched her doll’s face, which caused it to emit light that soon wrapped around their bodies. The next second, the two of them faded into thin air, and a loud explosion reverberated inside the castle grounds.
. . . . .
A few monts ago, after Arctic returned to the castle, she found her father’s disciples, along with her sister, waiting for her in the hallway. They had their things packed and ready to set out at any point in ti.
Her sister’s eyes were swollen, and traces of tears were still present, dazzling on her cheeks.
"What are you guys waiting for? Move! Bring her to safety!" She ordered, irritated with the rcenaries’ gazes.
"But the eldest princess is included as well in our task," the man answered.
His crystal-blue eyes were staring at Arctic, as if studying every line on her face.
Arctic clicked her tongue on that mont; she knew very well how obedient these rcenaries were to her father; even if he ordered them to pluck their own hearts, they would do it without a second thought.
The leader of Nyx Triangle, Londaire Skud, was a fighter who excelled in swords and ice manipulation at the sa ti. Just thinking alone of escpaing from his clutches, Arctic stood no chance at all. Aside from this, the words from the man she t kept ringing inside her head.
"Fine!" Arctic exclaid.
Then she walked into her room to get the things she needed.
"Lumiel, help the princess," Londaire commanded.
The woman beside him, who had the sa color as his eyes, nodded and followed Arctic’s trail.
"Wait a second, I’ll co with them," the other princess yelled.
She was about to step forward when a hand grabbed her through her arms, preventing her from leaving.
"You must remain at my side, Princess Polar. The king specially orders not to let you move away from my sight," the Diamond-class rcenary disclosed.
Upon hearing him, Polar Jamien Frostbloom had no choice but to remain silent in her position. Between her and her sister, she paled in comparison; she couldn’t fight very well, and even in controlling the ice elent, she was useless.
Several minutes had passed, and Arctic ca with the rcenary. Aside from a little bag that contained all of her belongings, she had a sword wrapped in a blue scabbard hanging on her shoulder.
"Let’s go!" Londaire exclaid.
Then the other mber of Nyx Triangle closed her eyes before raising her wooden staff in mid-air.
"Darkness lies within thee; open up a path beneath ; allow us to travel for free," she mumbled.
Afterward, a magic circle materialized underneath them.
"Tele-" However, she couldn’t finish her spell as a strange-looking doll appeared out of nowhere at their center and caused a heavy explosion.
Londaire was able to grab Polar and Lumiel at the last minute before leaping away into safety, while Arctic created a thick wall of ice that enclosed herself, protecting her from any damage.
The mage received a high amount of burns as she was caught off guard, and part of her battledress turned into tatters.
"Sena!" Lumiel yelled.
Seeing the state of her comrade, she freed herself from her leader’s grasp and ran to her friend. The next second, she touched Sena and helped her stand up, then ripples of green light ca from her hand, and the mage’s wounds were healed as the light diminished.
Afterwards, knights from the entrance ca running as soon as they heard the loud bang.
"What happened?" They asked.
"They’re here; notify the king!" Sena answered with a command.
anwhile, Londaire pulled out his sword while still holding Polar’s arm with his other hand. Afterward, he looked at the two silhouettes walking from the right side of the castle.
’Escaping is now excluded from the option,’ he expressed inside his mind while thinking about their next course of action.
"We’re almost a second late, and my little princess would leave without even saying goodbye. Do you know how much I look forward to this day?" Djaneryse stated, staring at the princess hiding behind the rcenary’s back.
Then Djaneryse scanned everyone present in the area, and her eyes shone bright upon seeing Arctic.
"Are you a Frostbloom as well? It’s my first ti seeing your face," she said, smiling before placing her forefinger on her lips.
However, hundreds of shards propelled into her direction as Arctic’s reply, though the projectiles stopped in mid-air before they all turned around and were sent back to the princess.
Arctic knitted her brows, and the shards vanished before hitting her; only the gust of a cold breeze remained brushing her skin.
"Such a anie, you’re colder than that old man," Djaneryse expressed her thoughts as she let out a short laugh.
"Enough playing, Djaneryse," Rain said before placing his hand at his companion’s head.
Then he stepped forward and eyed everyone.
"Seeing how you guys are planning to leave ans just one thing: you failed to find the key," he asserted.
. . . . .
Near the entrance of Winterbell City, the knights stationed in the area were nowhere to be found; instead, dolls wearing blue armor lined up, preventing anyone from leaving and entering the capital.
Though there were no scenes happening, as most of the people inside had already left and no one dared to co back, until a person dressed in a maroon coat walked in front of the dolls, treating them like they were nothing.
"Hmnn, they already started," he uttered, and a wide grin appeared on his lips.
"I’m quite excited, but..." he paused and directed his gaze towards the dolls that were rging to form one giant creature.
"Let’s take care of this first," he said.
