"Another search is necessary," Jiang Shu said as he stood at the door, casually shuffling or cutting a deck of cards.

Five minutes later, the police officers nodded at him, "Thank you for your cooperation; you may go in now."

"No problem," Jiang Shu waved and walked inside.

"Hey!" Ray, who was behind Jiang Shu, also tried to follow, but was imdiately stopped by the officers.

Jiang Shu smiled and didn’t bother with Ray; he turned and walked backstage.

The backstage area was spacious, dotted with actors and crew mbers chatting animatedly about sothing.

Of course, upon seeing the leading actor Jiang Shu, everyone greeted him.

Jiang Shu approached the makeup area, looked around, and spotted a familiar figure. He walked over and asked her, "Qiu, can you do my makeup?"

Qiu Wanying was standing behind Li Yuntang. When she saw Jiang Shu, she was montarily stunned and looked towards Li Yuntang.

Li Yuntang looked up at Jiang Shu and smiled, "Go ahead, do the makeup for our leading man."

"Alright," Qiu Wanying nodded in response.

"Let’s go over there; it’s too noisy here," Jiang Shu said, pointing to a quieter corner of backstage; he hated noise.

"Okay... but..." Qiu Wanying hesitated, then fixed her gaze directly into Jiang Shu’s eyes and asked, "May I search your body?"

"You want to search too?" Jiang Shu was surprised and shook his head, "You know... I’m a decent person."

"If you don’t agree, I can’t do your makeup," Qiu Wanying shook her head as well, stopping in her tracks.

"Alright, alright," Jiang Shu relented, raising his hands, "Go ahead, but just so you know, I have a girlfriend."

Qiu Wanying didn’t respond; she simply started searching Jiang Shu from head to toe, and finally relaxed with a smile, "That’s fine."

She then looked at the backstage crowd and felt much more at ease.

"Mm," Jiang Shu nodded, following her to a makeup table further inside.

"Have a seat," Qiu Wanying turned around to prepare her makeup tools.

Jiang Shu complied and sat down at the makeup table, continuing to fiddle with the deck of cards.

When Qiu Wanying’s gaze returned to the mirror, she froze instantly as if plunged into an ice cave.

In the mirror, the man had created a fan from the cards in his hand, then fixed it in place and gently covered his face with it.

Each card bore sporadic black marks which, assembled with the fan, ford a bizarrely wide-grinned smiley face.

The smiley face!

Jiang Shu was the smiley face!

Qiu Wanying wanted to scream, but suddenly found she couldn’t control her throat at all, unable to make a sound.

Person B: Did you leave your vocal cords at ho?

"Haha, why are you afraid?" Jiang Shu imdiately put away the fan, smiling at Qiu Wanying in the mirror with slightly narrowed eyes, "Co on, let’s do the makeup."

Qiu Wanying tried to move forward, but suddenly discovered that she couldn’t control her legs either, which filled her with imnse terror.

It was as if she had suddenly realized that the body she had lived in for over twenty years wasn’t hers anymore.

"Finish my makeup first," Jiang Shu said seriously, no longer smiling, to the reflection of Qiu Wanying in the mirror.

Then, he looked at his own reflection. The familiar face always bore a placid expression.

Yes, he was the smiley face.

There were not many reasons why.

Three months before arriving in this city, he had done such things, together with Fox.

Fox was the only person among the original four mbers of the Deception Group who knew his identity, and the person he was most familiar with.

Of course, this familiarity was relative.

He had not understood before, but after receiving Clo’s letter, he did.

Though he did not know the reasons, it was clear that he and Clo were of the sa kind.

However, Clo had lived countless lifetis, whereas he, Jiang Shu, was only on his second.

Although this first life was extraordinarily painful and brief.

Not long after entering the Special Prison, Clo had committed suicide.

"Ah, no Character Card and another life wasted," Clo had muttered discontentedly before unhesitatingly stabbing a small knife into his throat in the cell.

After Clo’s suicide, there were underlying currents in the Special Prison, and he didn’t live long either.

He didn’t even know who had hard him.

Then, once again, he opened his eyes on the streets of Lonely City.

After a brief shock, he accepted the reality, and this ti he needed to accomplish two things with his rebirth.

First, get the Character Card.

He must get the Character Card, but having once been a street wanderer, he clearly knew that without the help of high-ranking officials from the Social Sequence, it was impossible to obtain a Character Card in Lonely City.

If it were possible, his first self wouldn’t have ended up holess and unable to find stable work.

Then, he t Fox.

Afterward, the embryonic form of the Deception Group was established, initially as a playful verbal agreent.

Fox acted in the foreground, while he remained behind the scenes.

Fox helped him acquire the Character Card; he entered the police station to gather information.

Thereafter, he began playing the role of an innocent, oblivious rabbit in front of the police station.

A rabbit that was both lazy and busy.
