The bells of Valeria began to toll long before the sun dipped beneath the horizon.

The deep, resonant chis rolled across the kingdom, echoing through the valleys, climbing the towers, and slipping through open windows. The people paused in the streets, in taverns, in their hos with heads lifting, hearts pounding as anticipation brewed.

Tonight was not rely a celebration.

Tonight was history in the making.

Within the grand hall, torchlight danced against marble pillars. Red banners embroidered with gold sigils draped from the vaulted ceilings, each bearing the crest of Valeria. White lilies and roses lined the aisle, their mingled scents filling the air.

The kingdom had bled, suffered, and endured.

And now, it stood on the edge of rebirth, the beginning of a new era.

At the far end of the hall stood Lucian, dressed in ceremonial black and silver, his expression composed but heavy with emotion. As the Queen’s adopted younger brother, uncle to the man who would soon ascend the throne, it was his duty to officiate the coronation.

And gods help him, it was the hardest duty he had ever borne.

Behind the towering doors at the hall’s entrance, Hades stood in silence.

He was dressed in ceremonial garnts, black tunic woven with threads of silver and red, the sigil of Valeria stitched over his heart. A long cloak fell from his shoulders, its inner lining a deep red, clasped at his chest by a carved onyx brooch.

His hands were steady, but his heart was not.

Lilith stood before him, her hands resting gently against his chest as attendants made final adjustnts. She was breathtaking in a gown of midnight blue and silver, the fabric flowing like light around her.

"Calm down, you’re thinking too much," she said softly, her fingers curling into the fabric of his tunic.

He exhaled slowly. "I fear that I will disappoint them."

Lilith looked up at him, eyes fierce with certainty. "You won’t."

She reached for his hand, threading her fingers through his. "You’ve already proven through pain, sacrifice, and love that you are more than worthy to be their ruler. This crown doesn’t make you king. It only nas what you already are."

Hades swallowed, then leaned down, pressing his forehead to hers. "Stay with ."

"Always," she whispered.

The hall doors began to open.

A silence fell.

The bells ceased.

And the procession began.

A single long horn sounded, followed by the steady rhythm of drums. Nobles rose from their seats. Guards stood at attention. Citizens pressed forward, eyes glistening.

Hades stepped forward.

With each step down the aisle, mories surged of everything that had happened within the walls of the castle. He walked not as a flawless prince, but as a man who had been broken and rebuilt.

And the people saw that.

They bowed not in fear, but in deep respect.

Lilith walked beside him, her presence lending him strength. When they reached the dais, they stopped before Lucian.

For a mont, uncle and nephew simply looked at one another.

Lucian’s voice, when he spoke, carried through the hall.

"Hades Arthorne of Valeria, son of the late Queen Celeste Arthorne, do you stand here of your own will to accept the Crown of Valeria?"

"I do," Hades replied, his voice firm.

"Do you swear to rule not by cruelty nor by fear, but by justice, rcy, and strength of heart?"

"I swear it."

Lucian gestured, and attendants stepped forward bearing ancient relics.

First ca the Blade of Oaths, a gleaming weapon that had once belonged to the late queen. Lucian placed it into Hades’ hands.

"This blade symbolizes your duty to protect Valeria," Lucian said. "Do you swear to wield power only in defense of your people?"

"I swear."

The blade was taken.

Then ca the crown.

The Crown of Valeria was no simple ornant. Forged from blackened gold and set with a single glowing red gem at its center, it radiated ancient power. It had crowned conquerors, peacemakers, tyrants, and saints.

Lucian hesitated just for a breath.

His voice softened. "Your mother would have been so proud."

Hades’ throat tightened.

Lucian lifted the crown.

By ancient law, it was the uncle’s right to place it upon the new king’s head.

"As witness to the gods and the people of Valeria," Lucian declared, "I crown you, Hades Arthorne, as King of Valeria, Guardian and Light of this great kingdom."

The crown settled upon Hades’ head.

The hall erupted.

Cheers thundered, voices rising in unison. Banners unfurled. Bells rang anew. So wept openly, others laughed, strangers clasping hands in joy.

Hades closed his eyes.

For a heartbeat, he felt the weight not just of gold, but of every life now bound to him.

Then he opened them.

And he turned to the people.

Lucian stepped aside.

Lilith moved closer, her hand finding his.

Hades raised his voice.

"People of Valeria," he began, the hall falling silent once more. "I stand before you not as a perfect man, but as one who has known suffering as deeply as you have. I will not promise you a painless future. But I promise you this, your pain will never be ignored, your voices will never be silenced, and your lives will never be treated as expendable."

A murmur of approval rippled through the crowd.

"I will rule with honor. I will protect this kingdom with my life. And I will never forget that a king exists for his people, as from this day onward, I exist for the people of Valeria."

He turned then, lifting Lilith’s hand.

"You have shown love in different ways and forms. You have opened my heart and awakened my soul. I will always be grateful for your presence in my life. I love you, Lilith Sherburn."

Hades leaned forward and pressed his lips against hers, pulling her flush against him as he savored her mouth.

The cheers grew louder still.

Lucian bowed deeply.

And for the first ti, Hades truly felt it, the overwhelming surge of emotion that filled his heart. It raced wildly within his chest, threatening to consu him.

He was no longer a prince.

He was King.

And Valeria had finally found its true ruler at last.
