Upon seeing i Xiang return, Du Peilan quickly asked, "How did it go? Any progress?"

i Xiang was terrified in her heart.

She trembled all the way back, despite it being a sunny day, she was so cold her teeth chattered.

Heaven knows how hard she had to work to suppress the urge to burst into tears.

Recalling the sinister look in the Young Master’s eyes, she dared not play any tricks.

This was the capital; not even Du Peilan, with her birth from the Grand Tutor Mansion and her status as the legitimate wife on the Zheng family’s genealogy, could contend with the Young Master.

She bit her tongue and forced herself to calm down.

With her eyes downcast, she hid the panic within.

"Scholar Li said there’s a better way to deal with Ji Mingzhu, but he can’t make the decision alone, so he wanted your opinion."

Du Peilan was filled with rage, swung her arm, and swept the refreshnts off the table.

"How dare he, thinking so highly of himself, dare to instruct !"

Du Peilan gritted her teeth, "Insolent thing, unable to handle a minor task, no wonder after studying hard for over ten years, he hasn’t made a na for himself!"

i Xiang’s heart felt discontent as her longti beloved was deed worthless.

Thinking of how Scholar Li lost his tongue, unable to teach anymore and likely not even surviving, her resentnt towards Du Peilan deepened.

If Du Peilan had a bit of self-awareness, not competing with Miss Ji over a man as a widow, Scholar Li wouldn’t have ended up like this.

Du Peilan broke her leg, failed to get favor with Xie Yunzhen, and offended the Xie family and her stepmother from the Grand Tutor Mansion...

The promising situation turned into a ss because she returned to the capital early.

In a bad mood, she often vented her anger on i Xiang during this ti.

The slightest mistake would earn i Xiang either a scolding or a punishnt of kneeling.

i Xiang had long felt discontent.

Now that her beloved faced calamity and was humiliated so, her pent-up resentnt burst forth.

Overcoming fear.

i Xiang decided to risk it all, devoid of concern since the idea wasn’t hers, the bla wouldn’t fall on her.

"I’ve heard the Young Master is returning to the capital soon, Madam, if you don’t wish to deal with Ji Mingzhu anymore, I could tell Scholar Li to return the silver and let him drop it."

Du Peilan hurriedly asked, "Ah Zhen is returning? Who did you hear this from?"

"I t soone from the Duke Mansion at the tailor’s, overheard them."

Du Peilan didn’t doubt it.

i Xiang’s indenture was still in her hands; she didn’t think a maid would dare deceive her.

"Ah Zhen is returning..."

Du Peilan looked anxious, "I must handle this before he gets back."

i Xiang grumbled softly, "But Scholar Li insists your plan is easily exposed and could cause major trouble. If the plan isn’t changed, he won’t do it."

"Then replace him!"

Enraged, Du Peilan exclaid, "What kind of thing, dares to question my decision!"

i Xiang replied in a low tone, "Scholar Li ntioned his thod not only solves Ji Mingzhu but also makes the Duke Mansion willingly propose to you."

Du Peilan’s eyes were filled with doubt, "If he has such capabilities, why live so miserably?"

i Xiang’s hands clenched tightly, "I’m uncertain, but he insists on eting you before revealing the plan."

To deter Du Peilan from hesitating further, i Xiang went for broke.

"I also heard, just days ago, that wretched Pei Fang visited the Duke Mansion again."

Marrying into the Xie family was Du Peilan’s goal.

Trampling Du Peifang into the mud was also her fond dream.

Unable to think further, "Prepare the carriage!"

That Scholar Li had neither power nor influence, hardly daring to play tricks!

Du Peilan’s leg hadn’t fully healed, the doctor already declared it’d leave sequelae, yet she still wanted to struggle a bit.

With proper care, maybe it’d completely heal?

Afraid moving would affect her injured leg, she took a wheelchair on her way out of the mansion.

Then both she and the wheelchair were lifted onto the carriage.

i Xiang’s eyelid twitched, feeling a bad on, she offered to follow on foot.

"Who knows if anyone’s following us, I’ll stay outside to keep an eye."

Du Peilan, feeling guilty, while i Xiang was in disguise, said, "Be careful."

The carriage moved.

By this ti, the sun had already set, and the closer they got to Scholar Li’s house, the fewer people there were on the road.

Just as Du Peilan was secretly pleased no one noticed her movents, a fast-approaching sound of horse hooves ca from afar.

The horse pulling her carriage suddenly went out of control, rushing forward rapidly.

"i Xiang!"

Du Peilan looked panicked, instinctively reaching for sothing to hold on to.

But no one was beside her, and no part of the carriage wall was within reach.

The two carriages collided.

With screams, Du Peilan’s carriage overturned.

Reins tangled, the frenzied horse dragged the carriage chaotically.

The road wasn’t wide enough; the carriage repeatedly crashed into obstacles.

On the last impact, Du Peilan was thrown out of the carriage, landing heavily on the ground.

She coughed up bright red blood with a scream.

After a few gasps, she passed out.

i Xiang, witnessing all this, was left in shock, knowing the Young Master must have found out about the previous events.

He ca to avenge Ji Mingzhu!

She was also involved in that matter, exaggerating Du Peilan’s injuries, snatching Ji Mingzhu’s doctor...

A hovering premonition of demise lood over her.

Facing death or a life only barely lived, i Xiang chose to flee.

Though indentured, facing the consequences if caught fleeing would be grim.

But she feared falling into Xie Yunzhen’s hands more.

Even the Du Family bore no weight with him, how could a re maid contend?

As for Scholar Li, already half-dead, what was there to gain from staying with him?

With trembling legs, i Xiang was about to run when a few n in black appeared out of nowhere.

So went to check on Du Peilan’s situation, others ca for her.

Too late to run now.

Xie Yunzhen approached with a leisurely stride, "Want to live?"

His expression was calm and aloof, like a monk devoid of desires.

But to i Xiang, none seed more terrifying than him.

"Young Master, I was rely following orders, please spare my life."

Pleading while kneeling and kowtowing.

Xie Yunzhen remained unmoved, they didn’t consider rcy for Ji Mingzhu when they hard her.

Since they entertained malicious thoughts, they must face the backlash.

All Du Peilan had planned was fitting to be used against herself.

"Tomorrow at noon, you will be taken to the marketplace."

i Xiang looked puzzled.

"Were you not aware of how to survive an attack from bandits without my guidance?"

i Xiang’s face turned ashen.

The Young Master intended to repay in kind.

No, he was even harsher.

His intention was for this maid to splash dirt on her mistress.

Once dirt is thrown, what would happen to Du Peilan, i Xiang dared not imagine anymore.

All she knew was her survival would be no better than death.

"Young Master, please spare ."

With a thud, she kowtowed heavily to the ground.

Xie Yunzhen played with a jade bead, "Life is spared for you, should you not want it, find your own road."
