Chapter 1525: Chapter 1522: The Imperial Noble Consort’s Vow

The Emperor was almost amused with anger; was this the result of their half-day discussion?

Upon seeing the Emperor’s expression, the Imperial Physician and Midwife imdiately fell to their knees, prostrating themselves on the ground, repeatedly declaring their guilt worthy of death! They begged His Majesty for forgiveness!

Wang Yongzhu took this opportunity to quietly step back a few steps, shuffling over to the side table. She picked up the teapot and teacup and quietly poured herself a cup of tea to moisten her throat.

Witnessing this situation, she retreated even further back.

As soon as she lifted her foot, she sensed movent behind her. Turning her head, her eyes widened in surprise.

The Imperial Noble Consort had been standing in an inconspicuous shadow for so ti, at this mont standing there in a daze, silent, with a sowhat vacant look in her eyes, oblivious to how long she’d been there.

Earlier, Wang Yongzhu had been fully focused on responding to the Emperor’s questions. Though she heard soone co out and stand there, she didn’t pay it any mind, assuming it was a Palace Attendant of Changchun Palace.

Who would have thought it was the Imperial Noble Consort?

Judging by her appearance, she probably heard every word the Imperial Physician and Midwife said, leaving her utterly shattered.

This is understandable; who could remain unmoved upon hearing such dire news about oneself and their unborn child, left only to fate? Only soone with a heart of stone could be indifferent.

No matter how favored the Imperial Noble Consort was, at this mont, all riches and honors were but clouds in the sky.

Her face pale as snow, the Imperial Noble Consort was desperately controlling herself, biting her lip to suppress any sound.

Seeing this, Wang Yongzhu’s heart softened, and she clasped the Imperial Noble Consort’s hands in hers, feeling her palms cold and slightly trembling.

“Your Ladyship, co, breathe deeply with — inhale — exhale —” she said while gently rubbing the Imperial Noble Consort’s hands.

This commotion startled the Emperor and others above.

All turned their attention to them.

Upon seeing the pallor of the Imperial Noble Consort’s face, the atmosphere in the room beca even more tense.

Though she was soone he loved dearly, the Emperor truly felt so tenderness for the Imperial Noble Consort. Seeing her in such a pitiful state stirred real sympathy in his heart.

Hurriedly he ca down, embracing the Imperial Noble Consort. He too felt the chill in her hands.

While rubbing her hands, he ordered soone to bring a cloak and told them to stoke the hearth.

He then scolded the Palace Attendants of Changchun Palace for their service, asking how they could leave their mistress standing there alone.

Soon the Warm Pavilion beca a flurry of activity.

After much effort, the Imperial Noble Consort finally regained her senses. She remained silent, only looking at the Emperor with silent tears.

This silent cry was more heart-wrenching than loud sobs, causing even the serving Palace Attendants nearby to have reddened eyes.

The Emperor, too, found it unbearable to watch, comforting the Imperial Noble Consort: “Rest assured, my dear consort, with here, both you and our child shall co to no harm.”

He turned and commanded, “I care not for your excuses, before the Imperial Noble Consort gives birth, you must co up with a plan! Should anything happen to the Imperial Noble Consort or the unborn Little Prince, I will have your lives as a burial!”

The Emperor’s words were his bond; who dared to defy them?

They could only reluctantly agree and withdrew together to discuss further.

Before leaving, Du Zhongjing gave Wang Yongzhu a aningful glance, and then they all retreated.

The Emperor was, after all, occupied with many affairs, and could not accompany the Imperial Noble Consort for long. After a few comforting words, he got up to leave.

The Imperial Noble Consort struggled to accompany the Emperor, but he stopped her, telling her to take good care of herself instead.

He particularly glanced at Wang Yongzhu, instructing, “I can see that the Noble Consort gets along well with the Wife of the Heir-Apparent. If she has a heart, she should do her utmost to comfort the Imperial Noble Consort!”

Wang Yongzhu…

Could only agree.

Once the Emperor and his retinue left, the people of Changchun Palace remained in a state of gloom, knowing that the Imperial Noble Consort was their mistress, their sky, their very lives intertwined with hers.

The Imperial Noble Consort’s well-being equated to their own.

Pregnant with the Emperor’s promise that if she bore a Prince she would be nad Empress, the status of Changchun Palace rose like a tide, gaining much esteem within the palace. Who wouldn’t show them respect?

Even the Little Palace Maid and Little Eunuch were held in high regard once they stepped outside.

But now the sky seed about to collapse, and their spirits were halved instantly.

Only the senior personal maid beside the Imperial Noble Consort remained steady, keeping up her courage to instruct everyone to leave and pursue their respective duties, urging them not to linger and cause chaos.

Simultaneously she earnestly beseeched Wang Yongzhu to persuade the Imperial Noble Consort to better spirits.

Having said that, she led everyone out of the room and personally stood guard at the door.

Seeing the room only leaving herself and Wang Yongzhu, the Imperial Noble Consort took a deep breath, halting her silently streaming tears instantly.

With utmost calmness, she spoke: “Wang Family sister, give a direct answer, is there any hope for my child and ?”

It was Wang Yongzhu’s first ti witnessing such a remarkable change of expression; as if the previous heartbreaking despair and listlessness had never even occurred.

Upon asking this, and seeing Wang Yongzhu’s delayed response, she looked up and saw Wang Yongzhu’s stunned expression.

She couldn’t help but smile wryly, “Wang Family sister, don’t be surprised! In this deep palace, everyone must act this way. When it’s ti to cry, you must cry on cue, and you must cry beautifully, cry so that people find you pitiable. When it’s ti to be proud, you must be proud—with your eyes elevated, arrogant enough to disregard everyone!”

“Not long ago, I was the only one enjoying favor in this palace; everyone who saw deferred to ! So many in the harem secretly despised , wishing to devour alive.”

“Now it will spread throughout the palace; it turns out this Imperial Noble Consort lacks fortune and cannot bear such imperial grace! The Little Prince is healthy but might not survive! Surely, the won of this palace are laughing in their rooms right now!”

Such words left Wang Yongzhu unsure how to offer comfort.

Yet the Imperial Noble Consort essentially needed no comfort, “In front of His Majesty, I can cry, cry so his heart softens, cry so that at least he must cherish our bond a little, trying to secure a chance for us both. However, away from him, tears are the most useless thing!”

“Now with no outsiders, I know the Wang Family sister is a smart person; our fates are long tied to His Majesty. I only ask my Wang Family sister for a direct answer: is there any chance for and my child?”

Wang Yongzhu quietly looked at the Imperial Noble Consort, only after a long while asking: “If I say there is no chance, what would you do, Your Ladyship?”

The Imperial Noble Consort laughed with a gentle smile, but it sent chills down one’s spine: “If my child and I cannot survive, I naturally will send a grand gift to those who acted during my pregnancy, letting them precede my child and to explore the path below!”

Such a gentle way to convey such bloody thoughts.

Wang Yongzhu observed the Imperial Noble Consort’s expression and knew she was serious.

If there truly was no hope, the Imperial Noble Consort would indeed go mad! Once insane, a person loses all sense of reason.

“What if I say there’s a chance?” Wang Yongzhu slowly asked.

The Imperial Noble Consort’s smile blood brightly, like the softest lotus flower opening slowly: “Then I vow, upon the life of the child in my womb, as long as my child and I can accomplish it in this life, I shall agree to anything, except treason or actions that destabilize the Imperial Court!”
