Chapter 1: Chapter 1: Selling the Corpse

"Soone has been killed, soone has been killed..."

The succession of shrill screams ca out of this seemingly ordinary farmhouse courtyard, waking the napping neighbors on both sides.

Hearing that soone had been killed, the neighbors could no longer sleep soundly. They each grabbed a patched piece of clothing and walked out.

In a short ti, many villagers were heading in the sa direction.

"Ah, I’m afraid this sound is coming from the Yang Family again. I don’t know what kind of sin Old Lady Hua is causing."

"It must be because of sothing that she’s taking out her anger on Third Yang’s family."

"Hurry up, don’t just stand there, I just heard soone has been killed, let’s go take a look."

"Really? Old Lady Hua is so cruel."

When they arrived at the door of the Yang Family, they heard heart-wrenching cries and thumping sounds from inside before they even entered.

"Ah, my daughter, my good daughter, wake up, you can’t die, God, how can you let

live through this?"

"Cry, why are you crying? I’m not dead yet. It’s not your turn to cry. If that little bitch of an unlucky star is dead, just prepare her body quickly. When the people co later, let them take her away, if she’s worth five taels of silver, that would be her contribution to this family."

With Old Lady Hua’s words, Ms. Wang, who had been crying nonstop, suddenly stopped.

With disbelief, she asked, "Mother, what are you saying?"

"What? I’m saying, I’ve already talked to Sea Envoy from the town, and they’ll co and take Yang Chuxia soon." Old Lady Hua glared at Ms. Wang with annoyance and continued angrily, "I’m warning you, when Sea Envoy cos later, don’t make trouble for . If I don’t get that five taels of silver, I’ll skin you alive."

"Mother, are you selling Xiaxia? You can’t!" Ms. Wang’s teary eyes seed to be struck by lightning. Xiaxia had just died, and her mother-in-law wouldn’t even leave her a body.

Old Lady Hua saw the usually weak daughter-in-law daring to talk back to her and suddenly got furious. She slapped the table and yelled,

"Can’t? I make the decisions in this family, is it your place to speak? If I say it can happen, it will!"

"Husband, please beg your mother to at least leave Xiaxia’s body intact." Ms. Wang tightly held her daughter’s corpse, knowing that her mother-in-law had already made up her mind. She pulled her husband, hoping that his words might have so effect.

"Mother, please..." The dead girl’s father, Yang Dachuan, was quiet and timid. He didn’t want his daughter to be sold either, but he didn’t dare to ask his mother. He opened his mouth several tis, but only managed to say two words.

Old Lady Hua was disgusted by his weak appearance, and glared angrily at him, "You shut up too, you don’t get to call the shots in this household. Sea Envoy will be here soon, aren’t you in a hurry to go clean up this little bitch for them to take away?"

"Mother, you can’t do this, please, at least let Xiaxia’s body be whole, she’s only just left us."

Seeing that Ms. Wang and Yang Dachuan still refused to get up and go, Old Lady Hua was furious. She picked up a broomstick and began to hit them both, cursing as she did: "Are all of your brains kicked by a donkey? She’s already dead, and she can still be exchanged for five taels of silver. You’re not happy with such a good deal? This is five taels of silver, not five bits of silver, do you know how much fish and at we can buy with five taels of silver? Huh?"

"No...No...You can’t take my daughter in exchange for fish and at, even if I die, I won’t let you exchange my daughter for silver." Ms. Wang murmured, "My heart and soul, I can’t save you, so I’ll die with you." As she said this, Ms. Wang put the person in her arms down and rushed towards the wooden door.
