His movents startled Qin Yan. She turned her gaze toward him imdiately, fixed her eyes on him, and asked in a low voice, "Yunshen, do you need sothing?"
Bo Yunshen didn’t move and replied in a low tone, "Nothing. Just going out for a stroll!"
Qin Yan walked over to him. "Your allergic reaction is so severe. Who knows if there might be other risks? The doctor said you shouldn’t go out!"
Upon hearing this, a trace of impatience flickered across Bo Yunshen’s brow. But for the first ti, he didn’t counter her. "Fine, I won’t go. But I want so dumplings from the hospital restaurant. Go get a serving."
Qin Yan didn’t suspect anything and nodded.
"While I’m out, if the doctor prescribes any new dicine for you, don’t take it. Wait until I co back and check first."
"Do you really think you’re a doctor? If you want to be my personal physician, then kindly vacate Mrs. Bo’s position first!"
Bo Yunshen suddenly spoke mockingly, "Qin Yan, I would never marry my doctor!"
She smiled. "Oh? So, you married your maid instead?"
"What do you an by that?"
His brows furrowed, forming barely visible creases. His dark, deep-set eyes were like an unfathomable icy abyss.
Qin Yan, unbothered, t his gaze directly and said in a low voice, "Taking care of your food and daily needs, doing whatever you ask, enduring Mr. Bo’s temper—if that’s not being a maid, what is it?"
Bo Yunshen’s pupils contracted!
Taking care of him—was that such a grievance for Qin Yan?
Did she think he wanted her to look after him? Did she realize how many won in Tong City would line up for the chance? Did Qin Yan know?
He clenched his fists, forcibly suppressing the anger swelling in his chest. "Oh? Doing whatever I ask? Then this morning, when I told you to help ’relieve so tension,’ why did you run away?"
SHIT!
When he got angry, he’d be just like Old Gu—utterly reckless, saying things without thinking!
Bo Yunshen gritted his teeth. He absolutely couldn’t give Qin Yan a chance to mock him, lest she gloat over his slip-up!
Before Qin Yan could respond, Bo Yunshen suddenly turned his head to her and snapped, "Still standing here? Get out and buy those dumplings. Or are you just waiting for to sleep with you?"
"As if I’d stoop to being interested in you!"
Finished with his jab, Bo Yunshen turned his head into the pillow. His jet-black hair spilled over and veiled the emotions in his eyes.
Qin Yan’s eyelashes fluttered slightly. "Yunshen, I lost my wallet at Bai Le n, and I didn’t bring my phone back."
The implication was clear—whatever he wanted to eat, he’d have to pay for it himself.
Bo Yunshen pulled open the drawer, took out his wallet, and tossed it into Qin Yan’s arms.
Qin Yan’s sharp eyes imdiately noticed the wallet in the drawer. She brushed her long lashes, reached out, and touched a small package inside. "What’s this?"
Bo Yunshen slapped her hand away with enough force that her skin imdiately turned red.
"Director Qin, haven’t you heard the saying?"
Qin Yan’s gaze locked onto his. Bo Yunshen narrowed his long eyes slightly and spoke slowly, word by word: "Curiosity killed the cat."
"My things—Qin Yan, you’d be better off not touching them."
Qin Yan nodded again and said in a low voice, "Sorry."
Clutching the money, Qin Yan walked straight out of the hospital room.
Bo Yunshen stared blankly at her retreating figure for a while. After about two minutes, he finally took out his badly cracked phone and dialed Lin Man’s number.
The phone rang twice before it was answered.
Lin Man’s voice was as clear and lodious as ever. "Yunshen?"
Bo Yunshen made a sound of acknowledgnt. Lin Man continued, "It’s so late—why are you calling? Is sothing wrong?"
"Manman, I had a drug allergy tonight and ended up in the ergency room."
Lin Man’s voice wavered slightly. "How could this happen? Yunshen, are you all right?"
"Is Yanyan there? Is soone taking care of you?"
"Why did you have an allergic reaction? Have they figured out the cause yet?"
Bo Yunshen licked his lips lightly.
Lin Man’s voice was full of concern for him. After so many years together, Bo Yunshen considered himself familiar with Lin Man; she was kindhearted.
Bo Yunshen felt a pang of guilt.
It seed he had been so influenced by Qin Yan that he even started being wary of Lin Man!
"I’m out of danger now."
"The allergic reaction was caused by a dical ointnt."
There was a silence on the other end of the line.
Bo Yunshen’s eyelashes flickered. "Manman, did you switch the ointnt? What about the one Qin Yan gave you?"
Lin Man didn’t respond at first. Bo Yunshen, surprisingly patient, waited quietly.
After a long pause, Lin Man finally spoke. "I threw that ointnt in the trash."
Bo Yunshen: "???"
"Why?"
Lin Man hesitated. "Yunshen, I’m sorry. I just wanted to do sothing for you, so I spent money to buy a new ointnt. I really didn’t know you’d be allergic."
As she spoke, her voice began to crack, trembling slightly as if she desperately didn’t want him to notice:
"Yunshen... Did I hurt you again?"
Bo Yunshen paused for a mont.
He didn’t answer.
"Yunshen, ever since I ca back, I’ve hardly seen you. Even the one ti we had a al together, there were other people there."
"I just want to do sothing for you. But outside Bai Le n, when you rushed inside so recklessly to save Yanyan, I was really scared. Scared you’d die in there!"
"Yunshen, if you two are so close, I should be happy for you..."
"Are you blaming ?"
Bo Yunshen softly said, "Manman, I’m not blaming you."
"I called to warn you—to be careful not to let anyone take advantage of you."
"Once I recover, I’ll take you out to eat sothing nice."
"Last ti, didn’t you tell you wanted to visit the university together? I’ll take you then."
Outside the hospital room, Qin Yan clutched the wallet, the light in her eyes slowly dimming into nothingness.
She stood there for a while before turning and walking toward the end of the hospital corridor.
Qin Yan felt a heavy ache in her heart. She even thought of herself as dirty.
She had stooped to eavesdropping on others.
Her suspicions about Bo Yunshen’s unusual behavior tonight had made her think there might be a problem—or that he might’ve discovered sothing.
Qin Yan pressed her lips tightly together.
She had considered every possible reason for Bo Yunshen’s allergic reaction, but it turned out, just as Mrs. Bo had said, the issue was with the ointnt.
It was Lin Man who had swapped out her ointnt.
When Qin Yan picked up the dumplings from the restaurant and walked back outside, it was raining. The downpour was heavy—after all, it was sumr, and the weather could change at a mont’s notice.
Qin Yan hadn’t brought an umbrella. Bo Yunshen’s series of strange occurrences had left her no ti to think about the weather.
Clutching the dumpling box, she ran through the downpour toward the hospital.
"Qin Yan!"
Hearing the familiar voice, she stopped. A large umbrella appeared over her head, shielding her from the rain falling from the heavens.
"Lu Yi?"
"This late, why are you here?"
Lu Yi smiled. "With both you and Yunshen absent from the office, the PR departnt’s been a bit busy. I just got off work and heard from my aunt that Yunshen had a drug allergy!"
Qin Yan blinked her lashes but didn’t respond.
It was still Lu Yi who noticed the box of dumplings in her hand. His eyes glinted, though his face remained as warm as ever. "Are those for Yunshen?"
