"Besides, although I don’t like Yanyan, I wouldn’t go so far as to wish her dead!"
Lu Yi paused for a mont, then asked the final question, "Since you both ca out of the second-floor restroom, where is she? And why did Yunshen just say he doesn’t know?"
Lin Man’s expression was cryptic. Behind Lu Yi, the fire blazed brightly. Amidst such a setting, Lin Man still managed to let out a laugh: "Director Lu, I always thought you were a smart man."
"Yunshen left without taking Yanyan, and he refuses to disclose her whereabouts. Isn’t the implication clear enough?"
Lu Yi gave Lin Man a deep look before heading directly into Bai Le n.
It was June, fickle weather. The skies abruptly darkened. In Tong City Seaside, the wind picked up, carrying traces of the tangy scent of seawater.
Lin Man stood at the entrance of Bai Le n in high heels for a while. She stood with her back to the light, and the hem of her dress swept into an inexplicable arc in the wind.
Just now, she had lied to Lu Yi. In reality...
Yanyan had fainted, cradled in Bo Yunshen’s arms, and there had been blind spots in their line of sight.
The mont she stepped into the restroom, Lin Man had seen Qin Yan. Judging by Bo Yunshen’s expression at the ti, he seemingly hadn’t seen Qin Yan. Then later...
She deliberately adjusted her posture in Bo Yunshen’s arms to block his view.
Bai Le n was ablaze—dangerously unsafe. There were still people trapped in the restroom, desperate to escape. Bo Yunshen, in his urgency to get out, hadn’t looked back.
Everything fell into place, seamlessly.
Lin Man’s hands clenched tightly together. If Qin Yan truly t her end this ti, she could only bla herself for her ill fate!
...
Inside Bai Le n, the smoke was dense. Suddenly, Bo Yunshen recalled Lu Yi saying that Qin Yan hadn’t gone to have food on the third floor. That ant his earlier suspicion that Qin Yan was still on the second floor might be true!
People on the first floor had evacuated fairly quickly. The place was empty except for a few uniford firefighters working to extinguish the flas. There was hardly anyone left!
Bo Yunshen headed straight upstairs but was stopped by an alert staff mber: "Stop!"
"What do you think you’re doing? Can’t you see the size of this fire? Don’t cause trouble here—get out imdiately!"
"The second floor? That’s off-limits to you!"
Bo Yunshen narrowed his eyes, exuding an intimidating aura. His long, narrow eyes gave a fleeting glance toward the firefighter.
Without saying a word, Bo Yunshen managed to halt the firefighter’s reprimands, his tone unconsciously softening:
"The staircase to the second floor has collapsed. Everyone who might still be alive is in the restroom. Outside, our rescue teams have already begun their efforts!"
"Going up there will be a futile risk—it’s bound to cause unnecessary damage!"
Bo Yunshen froze montarily.
Earlier, holding Lin Man, he had jumped down from the restroom on the second floor. He had specifically observed the restroom—but Qin Yan wasn’t there!
He furrowed his brow.
Bo Yunshen furrowed his brow again.
Then he resud heading upstairs.
"Hey!"
"You can’t go up there!"
The firefighter tried to block his way, his expression showing so irritation. In a low voice, he said, "Move aside! I have to go up and find soone!"
"Find soone? Who deserves to be found at the cost of your life?!"
"Sir, life only happens once! If you go up recklessly, have you thought about your parents?"
Bo Yunshen’s gaze darkened.
No one, not even Qin Yan herself, was worth more than his own life.
The only reason he was willing to go looking for her was because he was sure he could make it back. Moreover, he didn’t want to end up raising Qin Yan’s child!
Besides, if Qin Yan were to die like this, wouldn’t it save him a heap of trouble?
Bo Yunshen pushed past the firefighter with one hand: "My company’s employees ca here for the celebration, and not everyone is accounted for!"
"I must go check!"
The firefighter’s eyes widened.
Perhaps because the employers he’d encountered before had all been like Zhou the exploiter, squeezing every ounce out of their employees, it was the first ti he’d seen soone risking their own life for their team.
The firefighter couldn’t stop Bo Yunshen. He could only remove his own fireproof suit: "Here... Put this on!"
"It may give you so added protection!"
"Don’t stay longer than ten minutes. Go up, get down quickly. Our teams are working on the rescue..."
Bo Yunshen wasn’t interested in hearing further instructions. There was too much smoke on the first floor, though little fire. He didn’t hesitate. With a stretch of his hand, he accepted the fireproof suit, put it on, and headed upstairs.
The electrical system inside Bai Le n had been burned out, cutting off power. Yet the inferno illuminated the entire second floor brightly.
The second floor was engulfed in flas. Several tis, Bo Yunshen was nearly forced back by the fire’s intensity. But he charged forward and pushed open a private room’s door.
The tal door handle, scorched red by the fire, instantly seared his hand, leaving it bloodied and mangled.
His fingers trembled, but even with the crack of the door open, it was enough for Bo Yunshen to confirm that no one was inside the room.
Having frequented entertainnt establishnts like this for years, Bo Yunshen knew all too well that so KTV private rooms had hidden features—always "full of surprises."
Though he rarely visited Bai Le n, he was certain to check each of the larger rooms.
Exiting one of the private rooms, Lu Yi appeared on the scene. He was also wearing a fireproof suit and a helt, seemingly far more prepared than Bo Yunshen.
Their gazes t, and Lu Yi imdiately noticed Bo Yunshen’s right hand, now nothing but blood and raw flesh.
Lu Yi’s eyes darkened slightly as he licked his lips and said in a low voice, "Did you find Qin Yan?"
Bo Yunshen shot Lu Yi a glance. Though he didn’t like him, he knew this wasn’t the ti for disputes.
"Manman and I exited from the restroom earlier. The restroom on the right side has already been consud by flas. Qin Yan wasn’t in the left-side restroom—I suspect she might be in one of the private rooms."
"Let’s split up to search."
Lu Yi nodded. Bo Yunshen pushed open another private room door and stepped inside.
Unbeknownst to him, as soon as he entered, Lu Yi ran straight toward the left-side restroom.
The private room was in bad shape—the fire was intense, leaving virtually no safe footing.
Even overhead, debris occasionally fell, adding to the danger.
"Qin Yan!"
Bo Yunshen inhaled the thick smoke, coughing repeatedly. His voice, hoarse now, called her na amidst the raging flas. Standing there engulfed in firelight, he was lost, his mind shrouded in a storm cloud.
Damn that woman Qin Yan—every ti danger arose, she would vanish without a trace!
Last ti, on the mountain behind the Bo Family Ancestral Hall, it was the sa. When he woke up in Feng Lin District, Qin Yan was gone.
All she’d left behind was a red raincoat floating in a puddle.
Bo Yunshen pressed his lips tightly together. His burnt hand was a ss of raw wounds, his face showing an edge of restrained pain.
And yet, out of place, he suddenly rembered the ti he had questioned Qin Yan—asking if she was the one who had convinced the old man to withdraw the rescue team. Her response at the ti ca rushing back.
["Yes, it was ! Yunshen, I wish you were stuck on that mountain forever—I wish you were dead!"]
