291: Chapter 289: Ungrateful 291: Chapter 289: Ungrateful Because of a Level 5 Bear, all the students who had been guarding the gate were killed.
Su Mo listened to their wails, her eyes also tinged with a trace of sorrow as she gazed down.
Every day, tens of thousands of people were dying, and she was, truly, very lucky compared to them.
The air was so thick with the sll of blood that it was sickening; she was pulled up from atop the bear’s corpse by Lu Chen.
“Are you hurt?”
It was the man’s worried inquiry.
Su Mo ca back to her senses and shook her head.
Her gaze swept over the grueso scene and left her with a bitter feeling inside.
Zhao Changsheng went to the distance, picked up the severed head, and reattached it to Niu Mang’s body before he walked over to Su Mo, his expression just as unnerved.
“Are you two hurt?” Su Mo sized up Lu Chen and then looked at Zhao Changsheng.
After receiving a negative reply, she felt slightly relieved.
He Fei stood up shakily, his eyes sowhat hollow, seemingly devastated.
Su Mo tugged at Lu Chen’s sleeve and then pointed at He Fei, “Go help him.
If he doesn’t pull himself together, these students will probably cry until tomorrow morning.”
The man acknowledged and took steps toward He Fei.
Su Mo didn’t listen on purpose but instead looked up at the sky, catching a few snowflakes in her palm, “Changsheng, do you feel that the snowflakes have gotten smaller?”
“It seems so,” Zhao Changsheng also looked up.
The heavy snow no longer fell so densely, indicating that the storm was nearly over.
Su Mo lowered her hand, which seed like good news, but also not.
Over there, Lu Chen had said sothing to He Fei, and the latter’s eyes gradually filled with spirit.
He adjusted his state and walked over to the group of students, loudly saying, “Stop crying.
There are still so many people waiting for us in the gym.
Let’s clean up here quickly and go back.
The stench of blood might attract sothing else.”
His words always had a leading effect, and any further sorrow was swallowed in that mont.
The remaining uninjured students piled up the bodies.
A Fire Ability User who was injured forced himself to stand up, and Lu Chen, knowing what they intended to do, took out a small can of gasoline and poured it over the bodies.
The roaring flas enveloped the corpses, emitting an unpleasant odor of burning oil and flesh.
Inside the South Building, the person who had been on the seventh floor finally showed up.
The reflection of the fire flickered in Su Mo’s eyes as she turned her head upon hearing a noise behind her.
It was a middle-aged man holding an automatic rifle, wearing a black baseball cap, with a sowhat pale, unshaven face, giving off an air that was far from the refined deanor of a teacher but carried a hint of danger.
Lu Chen gave him a glance and then looked away.
When He Fei noticed the man, he went over to him.
“I’ve fired all my bullets,” the man raised his gun, his hand visibly red from the cold.
In the darkness, his eyes shone particularly bright.
He Fei, with his injured arm, expressed his gratitude, “Either way, you fired your gun to help, and I thank you for that.”
“It’s what I should do since you’re providing with shelter,” the man’s voice was deep and a bit hoarse but seed very approachable.
After nodding towards Su Mo and the others, he turned and left.
He didn’t seem to be with He Fei and the other students; Su Mo thought about it.
Then there was only one possibility, “Did you guys pick him up along the way?”
He Fei, pale-faced, turned his head and nodded without denying.
“We found him outside the school the day before it snowed, being chased by a dozen zombies.”
Su Mo nodded thoughtfully.
She pointed at his arm, “Let’s go back.
You’re seriously injured.”
After dealing with the bodies here, the dried bloodstains on the ground were also cleaned and then reburied with thick layers of snow.
Out of the people He Fei brought, five were injured, and two were killed, not counting the gatekeepers.
For them, having only a couple dozen superpower users, the number was terrifying.
Back at the sports hall, a large number of students crowded at the entrance waiting.
Seeing their injured selves returning, they first felt joy, then shock, and finally despair.
Su Mo captured all those emotions in her eyes.
The door was opened, and the injured were imdiately settled on the second floor.
These people all had varying degrees of scratch marks on their bodies.
It was a grisly sight to see.
Upon seeing Su Mo and the others return, Ling Ye’s previously tense expression finally relaxed.
Inside the tent, Li Qian was still advancing.
Ling Ye was still young after all, and he was struggling to stay awake after a night without sleep.
Su Mo imdiately commanded him to go back to the tent and sleep, but Ling Ye didn’t want to, saying he was afraid of disturbing Li Qian’s advancent.
He was quite sensible, and Su Mo rubbed his head, “It’s okay, you won’t disturb him, go to sleep.”
After much persuading from her, Ling Ye yawned and crawled into sleep.
Jiang Yulian hadn’t slept either.
She ca out from the tent, anxiously sizing up Lu Chen.
Seeing him unhard, then looking at Su Mo and seeing they were both fine, she finally let out a sigh of relief, “It’s good that you returned safely.”
Su Mo turned to Zhao Changsheng, who was in a sowhat poor mood, and said, “It’s getting late, you and Aunt Jiang should sleep early and rest up.”
Zhao Changsheng pulled back the curtain, and before crawling in, he turned around and said in a muffled voice, “You should also sleep early.”
Su Mo nodded in agreent.
On the second floor, a large wave of students surged up, all coming out of concern for the superpower users.
“If they all get into trouble, who will protect us?”
“Yeah, these people can’t die, they really make us worry.”
“Niu Mang didn’t co back, he, a Level 3 Superpower User, seems to have been killed by a bear.”
“What?
…
What are we going to do?”
Around her, the chatter, both positive and negative, didn’t stop ringing through Su Mo’s eardrums into her mind.
Her expression was sowhat cold; these students’ concerns were all considering their own lives first and foremost.
Lu Chen rested his hand on her shoulder and patted it gently, as if to comfort her.
The two stood there, watching how this farce would finally end.
He Fei, who was already quite injured, lost his temper in front of these people for the first ti, exacerbated by the crowd’s congestion and the warmth and concern in their voices,
“Enough!
Everyone go down!”
The weight in his voice was significant, and the ordinary students couldn’t stand it; so even knelt on the ground, clutching their chests and turning pale.
“How could you do this!
We’re just concerned about you!”
“He Fei!
What are you doing!”
“Oh God, my chest hurts so much!”
“…”
He Fei’s complexion turned even paler, and he muttered, “I didn’t an it…”
He retracted his intimidating presence and his voice softened, but the situation on the second floor heated up entirely.
Instead of thanking them for killing the Polar Bear and protecting them, the people blad the superpower users for harming ordinary individuals.
The incessant wave of curses made Su Mo’s fists clench, “Have these people lost all sha under the oppression of the apocalypse?”
Seeing her anger, Lu Chen’s expressionless face darkened too.
The pressure of a Level 5 Superpower User spread from him, and his voice, unhurried and marked by a bone-chilling coldness, said, “Have you all had enough?”
