Chloe Preston struggled. He... what’s wrong with him?
At that mont, Leo Sterling and Adrian Rhodes walked in. Seeing the scene before them, they both froze.
Adrian leaned lazily against the doorfra, his eyes narrowing slightly. "You two, is this so new way of flirting?"
At the sound of his voice, Donovan Xavier let go and turned to look.
Once she was free, Chloe Preston imdiately broke into a coughing fit. Her face was bright red, and a deep, angry mark was visible on her neck where she had been choked.
Leo Sterling stepped forward, walked up to the man, took a deep breath, and hugged him tightly. "It’s been two months. You finally woke up."
"What?" Donovan Xavier asked.
"Two months ago, you fell from an upper floor and have been in a coma until today," Leo explained.
Just then, Adrian walked over, patted Donovan’s shoulder, and smiled. "I almost thought you’d never wake up again. Luckily, the heavens were watching over you."
Donovan Xavier lifted his gaze to him, swatted his hand away, and frowned. "Who are you?" he asked, then turned to Leo. "Mr. Sterling, is this your friend?"
Adrian was stunned for a mont. He pointed at himself, his mouth agape. "What? Mr. Xavier, it’s ! Don’t you rember ?"
"Do I need to rember you?" Donovan Xavier gave him a disdainful glance, his commanding aura on full display as he spoke coldly.
Adrian stepped forward, thrusting his handso face close to Donovan’s, a disbelieving twitch on his lips. "Mr. Xavier, I’m your best friend! How can you not rember ?"
"Mr. Xavier, have you been in a coma for too long? Is your head still foggy?"
"Take a good look at !"
"My mind is perfectly clear." Donovan Xavier avoided him, leaning against the wall with the sa detached tone. "I don’t recognize you, and I’ve certainly never t you. I have no impression of you whatsoever!"
Adrian stood there, stunned. He then grabbed Leo and pulled him in front of Donovan. "Do you recognize him?"
Donovan Xavier nodded.
Adrian pointed to himself again. "But you don’t recognize ?"
"I don’t," Donovan Xavier said coolly, his voice laced with detachnt.
Adrian’s eyes grew red. He lunged forward and grabbed Donovan by the collar, his voice fierce with a mix of anger and hurt. "Donovan Xavier, is your brain fried? You rember Leo but forgot !"
"The three of us are the best of brothers! What gives you the right to just decide to forget ? You’d better fucking rember , right now!"
"I think you’re still dazed and need soone to snap you out of it!"
As he spoke, he balled his hand into a fist, ready to throw a punch.
Chloe Preston, terrified, rushed forward and shielded Donovan with her body. "Don’t hit him!"
Donovan Xavier glanced at her, a puzzled frown on his face. He pushed her away. "And who are you?"
Chloe Preston looked at him, her eyes welling up as she fought desperately to hold back a flood of tears. She asked in a choked voice, "Donovan, you don’t recognize either?"
"I’m Chloe... your Chloe..."
Donovan Xavier’s brow furrowed even deeper. What is this nonsense?
Chloe Preston reached out, cautiously touching his large hand and taking hold of it.
Donovan Xavier imdiately flung it away. "What is wrong with you, woman?" he said harshly. "You have no sense of propriety. The mont you see , you’re either hugging or kissing . Is that appropriate at all?"
Standing to the side, Adrian closed his eyes in exasperation. "Great. He didn’t just forget ; he forgot you too."
"If I had known it would be like this, I’d rather he had stayed asleep and never woken up. This is so infuriating!"
"Chloe, how about you take one punch, and I’ll take the other? We can beat him to death together!"
Chloe Preston said nothing. With red-rimd eyes and a stinging nose, she just stared straight at the man.
Donovan Xavier couldn’t bear such an intense gaze. He looked away and coughed lightly. "Haven’t you seen a man in ages? Why are you staring at like that?"
Leo Sterling stepped forward, frowning. "Mr. Xavier, how can you speak to her like that?"
Donovan Xavier grunted, "Hm?"
Leo Sterling grabbed Chloe Preston’s arm and pushed her directly into Donovan’s embrace. "This is your woman!"
As her soft, warm form fell into his arms, Donovan Xavier’s heart skipped a beat.
Chloe Preston held on and refused to let go, resting her head on his chest and nuzzling him like a cat, holding him tight.
Donovan Xavier tried to push her away, but she wouldn’t budge.
He pointed at the woman in his arms and shot a look at Leo Sterling. "What the hell?"
With one hand in his pocket, Leo Sterling leaned against a nearby table and said lazily, "She’s your first love. Your one and only girlfriend. You’re crazy about her, loved her to death, and you even severed ties with the Xavier Family for her sake!"
Donovan Xavier was shocked. "Wait, what are you saying?"
Leo continued, "You two even broke up for four years. For her sake, you drank until you had stomach bleeding. You waited for her all that ti, staying celibate for four years straight."
Donovan Xavier frowned, stunned yet again. Is he really talking about ?
Upon hearing the words "stomach bleeding," Chloe Preston’s long lashes trembled.
Suspicious, Donovan said in disbelief, "Are you ssing with ?"
Leo Sterling’s voice was grave. "I’m your brother. Why would I lie to you? Chloe is the most important person in your heart, more important than even your own grandfather."
"You two were about to get married. If it weren’t for your sudden accident, you would already be legally married by now."
Donovan Xavier felt a headache coming on. "Huh?"
Chloe Preston looked up at him, her eyes moist. She took his hand and guided it to her slightly swollen belly. "Donovan, feel our baby."
Donovan Xavier’s pupils shrank. He looked down at her in utter disbelief. "Wait, I knocked you up, too?!"
Chloe Preston nodded, her voice thick with tears. "Congratulations, you’re going to be a dad."
As she spoke, she buried her head in his chest again, calling out over and over, "Husband... husband..."
"Husband, think hard. I’m your Chloe. You loved it most when I called you that."
Then, she called out again, "Donovan..."
Donovan Xavier’s mouth fell open, but no words ca out.
