"Are you the owner of this shop?" Yvonne Sullivan asked.
Chloe Preston nodded. "Yes. Are you looking to see so bangles? I have all kinds here."
Judging by her clothes, she probably isn’t the type to like jadeite.
Yvonne’s expression was unreadable. Staring at Chloe, she smiled. "Alright."
"Follow ," Chloe Preston said, walking ahead.
Yvonne followed. Ryan Hale’s brow furrowed, and he stepped forward to firmly grasp and squeeze her arm.
Yvonne winced in pain and demanded in a low voice, "What are you doing?"
Ryan spoke just as softly. "Don’t cause trouble."
A smirk played on Yvonne’s lips, but her voice was ice-cold. "You really do care about her, don’t you?"
She raised her hand, forcibly wrenching it from his grip before walking over.
"So many beautiful bangles!" Yvonne exclaid, standing before the display. She pointed casually at one of the pieces, her smile sweet.
Chloe Preston smiled back. "If you like them, feel free to pick so out. You can try them on."
Yvonne nodded.
"Miss Quinn," she said, trying to slide an icy green bangle onto her wrist, "it seems a little too small to go on."
Chloe Preston took two steps forward, her voice gentle. "Let help. This circle size should be a perfect fit for you."
After a pause, she asked, "Miss, I don’t believe I told you my last na. How did you know it?"
A slow smile spread across Yvonne’s face as she answered effortlessly, "This jadeite shop is the most famous one on this street. Besides, Miss Quinn’s na is known by everyone in the entire jadeite industry."
"I ca here drawn by your reputation, hoping to find a bangle I love."
"I see," Chloe Preston murmured.
Yvonne said no more, a slight smile fixed on her face as she watched Chloe quietly. The two of them stood very close to each other.
Yvonne slipped her other hand into her pocket and began fumbling for sothing discreetly.
Ryan saw the movent, and his pupils contracted. He imdiately lunged forward and pinned her arm down.
If he rembered correctly, she had a newly bought, extrely sharp short knife in that pocket. She’s going to make her move.
Yvonne didn’t make a sound. She locked eyes with him, her gaze freezing cold, silently demanding that he let go.
That gaze seed to say: *If you’re not going to help, at least don’t get in the way!*
Ryan Hale held her arm tightly, applying pressure and refusing to let go. The two were locked in a silent struggle.
Chloe Preston noticed. "You two..."
Yvonne pushed him away and smiled, her eyes crinkling. "It’s nothing. This is my boyfriend. We had a fight this morning, and he’s still sulking."
With that, she pulled her hand from her pocket, sothing clutched in her fist.
Ryan instinctively reached out to snatch it away.
Yvonne shot him a look and laughed. "What are you doing?"
She then held her open palm out in front of Chloe Preston.
"Miss Quinn, would you like a piece of candy?"
Chloe Preston was taken aback for a mont. She glanced down at the milk candy in the other woman’s hand and shook her head. "No, thank you."
Yvonne didn’t insist. She unwrapped a piece and popped it into her own mouth.
She glanced down at the bangle on her wrist. "You know, I don’t think I like this color after all. I’d like to try another one."
"Of course," Chloe Preston replied. "I’ll help you take it off."
Yvonne looked up, her expression carefully neutral and her eyes holding a smile as she scanned the surroundings.
There were quite a few bodyguards and employees around. Even if she succeeded in her attack, it would be difficult to get away. She would have to wait for the right opportunity to get rid of her quietly.
Ryan Hale spoke up from the side. "Since you don’t like it anymore, let’s just go ho."
Yvonne glanced at him and was taken aback. His eyes held a pleading look.
She had never seen him like this before. He was truly terrified that she would harm this woman.
"Oh, well," Yvonne said, realizing that today wasn’t a good day to make a move. "Alright, I’ll listen to you."
She then turned to Chloe, her lips curling into a smile. "Miss Quinn, I’ll be going now. We’ll et again... next ti."
Just as Chloe Preston was about to respond, Ryan had already taken hold of Yvonne and was forcibly dragging her out of the shop.
For so reason, even though the woman smiled at her and spoke gently, all she felt was a profound chill. And that man... the way he looked at her was strange, too.
「Afternoon.」
Chloe Preston made soup at The Xavier Residence before having the driver take her to the Xavier Group headquarters.
The man was busy with work and surely hadn’t eaten well at noon. She hadn’t told him she was coming, planning to give him a surprise later.
The mont she stepped inside, the receptionist noticed her. After an initial mont of surprise, she hurried over, her deanor extrely respectful. "Mrs. Xavier, you’re here!"
Chloe Preston, carrying an insulated food container, nodded. "I ca to see Donovan. Is he still busy? I hope I’m not being inconvenient."
"Of course not, of course not! Even if he were busy, Mr. Xavier would absolutely make ti for you!" the receptionist replied.
The receptionist led her forward. Noticing the floor was a bit slippery, she carefully reached out to steady Chloe. As they passed the lounge area, several young employees who had been laughing and chatting nearby suddenly fell silent at the sight of her, their conversation turning to hushed whispers.
"Wow, is that Mr. Xavier’s wife? She’s gorgeous! So pretty!"
"Did you see the ring on her hand? I heard Mr. Xavier bought it at an auction for an astronomical price. It must have cost billions."
Chloe Preston overheard them and looked over with a gentle, warm smile.
The employees’ faces paled. They all tensed up and said respectfully, "Mrs.... Mrs. Xavier."
With that, they hurried away, coffee cups in hand.
Chloe Preston’s delicate brows furrowed slightly.
Do I look that intimidating? Why did they run away the mont they saw ?
***
At this mont, in the office.
Donovan Xavier sat in a leather executive chair. Dressed in a well-tailored black suit that accentuated his impressive figure, he was focused on the docunts in his hands. His features were handso and sharply defined. A pair of gold-rimd glasses rested on the bridge of his high nose. When he turned a page, his long, slender fingers with their distinct knuckles seed to glow with a cool, pale light. He was the very picture of a refined villain, exuding an air of stoicism.
Indeed, a man is most captivating when he’s focused on his work.
KNOCK KNOCK.
The door was knocked on softly.
"Co in," Donovan Xavier said casually, picking up his fountain pen to sign a docunt.
Aurora Sumrs entered, holding a steaming cup of coffee.
Without even looking up, Donovan Xavier finished signing his na with a flourish. The script was a beautiful Slender Gold style, strong yet elegant. He reached for the next docunt.
Aurora walked to his side and placed the cup near his hand. Her voice was naturally saccharine. "Mr. Xavier, here is the coffee you asked for."
Hearing her voice, Donovan’s hand paused. He lifted his gaze to glance at her, his brows knitting slightly. "Secretary Shaw, why is it you?"
Liam Keane usually handled these things. He didn’t like outsiders entering his office as they pleased.
He had no idea what perfu she was wearing, but the scent was unpleasantly strong, almost suffocating.
Donovan Xavier averted his gaze. "That’s all. You may go," he said coolly.
