Unaware of what Susan Caldwell was thinking, Leo Wright gave a slight nod and said softly, "Direwolf may be exceptional, but he’s cold and ruthless. Miss, it would be best if you stayed away from him in the future."

"Stay out of my business." Susan Caldwell’s tone was sharp. "I know what I’m doing!"

Seeing her face go slightly pale, Leo Wright didn’t dare say more.

Susan Caldwell then thought of sothing else. "I can’t stand the sight of that Vera Xavier. Do you have any way to get rid of her?"

A troubled look appeared in Leo Wright’s eyes. "With Direwolf by her side now, I’m afraid there won’t be an opportunity..."

"Direwolf is a soldier. He’ll have to return to his unit in the next couple of days," Susan Caldwell said, looking at him. "Don’t tell you can’t even handle a little thing like this?"

Leo Wright glanced at her, not wanting to disappoint her, and said softly, "I’ll find a way."

"Don’t make wait too long," Susan Caldwell said coldly. "You’ve already disappointed today. Don’t disappoint again. And don’t you forget who saved you!"

Back then, Leo Wright had made a mistake and was facing severe punishnt. On the surface, Mr. Caldwell had intervened and brought him to the Caldwell family, but in reality, it was all Susan Caldwell’s doing.

Thus, after arriving at the Caldwell household, Leo Wright had essentially beco Susan Caldwell’s personal bodyguard.

Leo Wright said in a low voice, "I would never dare to forget that you saved my life, Miss. I will do everything in my power to serve you."

Hearing this, Susan Caldwell’s expression finally softened a bit. She said softly, "You need to rember one thing: I despise Vera Xavier, so she absolutely cannot be allowed to live for long."

Leo Wright nodded slightly.

Only then did Susan Caldwell’s voice turn gentle. "You’ve had a long day, and you’re injured, too. Go ho and get so rest."

Leo Wright glanced at her, but she was no longer looking at him, her gaze fixed on the deep night outside. The light in his eyes dimd. She rarely ever looked him straight in the eye.

After Leo Wright left, Susan Caldwell picked up her phone to call Mr. Caldwell. It was already very late, and Mr. and Mrs. Caldwell were asleep, so the phone rang for quite a while before soone answered.

Mr. Caldwell’s voice ca from the other end of the line. "Susan, why are you calling ho at this hour?"

"Dad, I miss you." Susan’s voice held a sweet, wheedling tone.

Mr. Caldwell, who had been slightly annoyed at being woken up, imdiately softened. He chuckled. "You rascal. You haven’t called once since you left. I thought you were having so much fun you’d forgotten all about ! Why the sudden call now? Don’t tell you’ve run out of money again?"

"Of course not!" Susan’s voice sounded delicate and soft over the phone. "I just missed you, Dad. I couldn’t sleep because I was thinking about you, but I didn’t want to disturb your rest. So I waited and waited, holding off until I just couldn’t bear it anymore and had to call you. But it looks like I woke you up after all."

Mr. Caldwell laughed in spite of himself. "Oh, you silly girl. If you miss , just call. But your mother has been working for three days and three nights straight. She just got ho today and was exhausted. Your call woke her up too, and she was just complaining about it!"

Susan said softly, "Oh, I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have called so late."

Mr. Caldwell chuckled. "Well, the call’s already made, so don’t worry about it. Go on, what’s on your mind?"
