Chapter 56: Chapter 56: Xia Qingtian Has Morning Sickness_1
Bo Jingyan was sitting on the couch. He lifted his gaze and looked at her, seemingly hearing the underhanded complaint in her heart, and suddenly said in a deep voice, “I had Jian Xuan get you another lunch. Please, sit and eat with .”
Xia Qingtian paused for a mont before noticing the additional boxes of food on the coffee table.
She looked at Bo Jingyan with surprise, a burst of inexplicable happiness filling her heart. She couldn’t help but say, “Thank you.”
It seed Bo Jingyan wasn’t as unreasonable as she had thought.
Xia Qingtian comfortably settled herself on the sofa, delightfully opening the lunch box to find it filled with beef and pasta; she couldn’t help but laugh as she began to eat with great enjoynt.
Bo Jingyan looked up at Xia Qingtian, her lack of finesse while eating was unexpectedly endearing, and it whetted his appetite. He found himself eating with an unusual sense of enjoynt as well.
The pair finished eating.
After cleaning up the coffee table, Xia Qingtian said goodbye to Bo Jingyan and then left.
Upon returning to her project team, she found several of her colleagues sneakily observing her as soon as she walked into the departnt.
Slightly confused, she furrowed her brows, thinking she might have sothing on her face. She checked her appearance in a mirror at her desk, but found nothing out of place.
However, she didn’t think too much about it. She quickly imrsed herself again in her work.
“Everybody, please stop what you’re doing and head to the conference room for a quick eting,” Mary suddenly announced, stepping out of her office to the center of the departnt and clapping her hands loudly.
After speaking, she turned her gaze in Xia Qingtian’s direction, then turned and walked back into her office.
Fifteen minutes later.
All departnt employees had gathered in the conference room.
Xia Qingtian also brought her laptop and took a seat at the conference table.
“Before we start the eting, I’d like to introduce a new mber to you all,” said Mary, standing in front of the conference table, a cup of coffee in hand. She turned her gaze towards Xia Qingtian and said with a smile, “Qingtian, why don’t you introduce yourself?”
Xia Qingtian was taken aback, being put on the spot unexpectedly, and was unable to respond for a mont.
She looked up to find Mary smiling at her, and paused for a couple of seconds.
Noticing everyone turning around to look at her.
She swallowed nervously, stood up and said quietly, “Hello, everyone. My na is Xia Qingtian. I’m in charge of the Gu Family’s The Park project. I’ll need your help implenting our plans in the future.”
After speaking, seeing nobody reacting, she awkwardly sat back down, nervously biting her lower lip.
No one had warned her to prepare for introductions in the eting.
Otherwise, she would have prepared sothing in advance.
“Qingtian has been assigned by the Gu Family as the project leader and is here primarily to observe and learn from our own departnt. If she encounters any difficulties, I hope everyone will be forthcoming in providing help and showing consideration.” Mary spoke again, giving Xia Qingtian another friendly smile.
Seeing Mary’s attitude towards Xia Qingtian, the gazes of everyone else in the room also appeared to soften.
Mary didn’t speak of anything else. She went straight to the eting’s main topics.
While Xia Qingtian was listening and staring at her computer screen, she felt sothing was strange.
This morning, Mary had been quite harsh and disdainful towards her. But in the afternoon, her attitude had beco so much warr…
Her friendliness was so overwhelming that it was making Xia Qingtian feel uncomfortable.
Could it be that her perception of Mary’s dissatisfaction from earlier was just an illusion?
Xia Qingtian furrowed her brows, picked up the drink from her table, and took a few sips.
A strange feeling suddenly spread in her throat, her stomach churned, and a wave of nausea rushed to her head.
Xia Qingtian covered her mouth, rose from her chair without explanation, and ran out, drawing everyone’s puzzled gaze.
Mary paused the eting, worried that Xia Qingtian was unwell, and followed her out.
Xia Qingtian rushed to the restroom.
She couldn’t hold it back anymore and ended up rushing to washbasin. She leaned over, resting her hands on the marble surface, and began to retch. Yet, oddly, she only threw up so gastric acid.
But the burning sensation in her stomach consud Xia Qingtian. She was very uncomfortable.
Mary rushed over and found Xia Qingtian bending over, dry heaving, but not throwing anything up. She couldn’t help but ask, “Qingtian, what happened? Did you eat sothing spoiled?”
As she spoke, she pulled a pack of tissues out of her pocket and handed it to her.
“Thank you.”
Xia Qingtian wiped her mouth with the tissue and looked at her gratefully, her voice weak and her face pale.
Mary studied her face and realized that she didn’t look like she had a stomachache, so ventured to ask, “Qingtian, your condition… Could it be morning sickness?”
A colleague had seen her go to the CEO’s office at noon today, she stayed for two hours, and only returned to the departnt when the lunch break ended.
Moreover, considering that Jian Xuan had asked her to take special care of Xia Qingtian, the connection beca clear— she and the CEO must have sothing going on.
And now that she was having morning sickness…Could she be pregnant with the CEO’s child?
With this thought, Mary looked at Xia Qingtian with slight disdain. She had never liked won who used their bodies to climb up the ranks in the workplace.
However, given Xia Qingtian’s relationship with the CEO, she couldn’t let her feelings show too openly.
Xia Qingtian was taken aback and looked at Mary in shock, responding vehently, “How could that be possible?!”
Pregnant…
How could she be pregnant?!
That’s impossible!!!
She had only been with that man for one night…
But could that one occasion…
Seeing Xia Qingtian react so strongly, Mary gave a knowing chuckle and said in a suggestive tone, “Qingtian, being pregnant isn’t a big deal. You should let the CEO know about it. He will definitely allow you to take maternity leave. After all, caring for a baby is more important than work.”
Upon hearing Mary, Xia Qingtian frowned and hurriedly explained, “I just ate sothing spoiled last night, so I’m feeling a bit queasy and wanted to throw up. I’m not pregnant.”
From Mary’s tone, could Mary be suspecting sothing inappropriate between her and Bo Jingyan?
Was it because Jian Xuan had co to find her at lunch ti, and people had seen?
With that thought, in order to avoid any unnecessary misunderstandings in the future, Xia Qingtian felt compelled to clarify, “Also, what you think is happening between Bo Jingyan and
is not true. I don’t have any sort of relationship with him. I’m simply representing the Gu Family’s project here.”
“Qingtian, you’re being overly sensitive. I didn’t say that you and the CEO have a relationship,” Mary responded with an air of indifference. Seeing the serious look on Xia Qingtian’s face, Mary laughed lightly and said, “I was just saying that our CEO cares for his employees. If a female employee is pregnant, she will be given maternity leave.”
“I’m not an employee of the Bo Family. I was sent here by the Gu Family for the the park project,” Xia Qingtian added, looking serious, her face devoid of any hint of a joke.
“Alright, if you say so. If you’re feeling better, clean yourself up and head back to the eting,” Mary said, looking a bit out of sorts. She gave Xia Qingtian’s shoulder a pat and walked out.
Watching her leave the restroom, Xia Qingtian slumped, washing her face with cold water to clear her mind.
She must have just gotten food poisoning because she hadn’t adjusted to the local food and water since her return to the country.
There was no way she could be pregnant, especially since her period was due soon!
She was definitely not pregnant!
Definitely not!
