Shen Yi had been spending very little ti at Jinghong lately, but with such a large company, it was impossible for him to not oversee any of it.
Fortunately, Shen Yi’s injury was a burn, so as long as he didn’t touch the wound, there shouldn’t be any problems, and by now, it had already scabbed over.
Ye Wanwan therefore didn’t insist on Shen Yi staying ho until he fully recovered. If she had, it wouldn’t have been long before he was ousted during a shareholders’ eting.
"I ca back as soon as I finished," Shen Yi said quietly. He didn’t tell Ye Wanwan the truth of the matter.
As for Ling’an Temple...
It was enough for him to go.
Shen Yi sat down next to Ye Wanwan, Taozhi crawled out of Ye Wanwan’s arms, wandered around the couch, and then settled down on the other side of her.
"Zhouzhou’s moving now that he knows you’re back," Ye Wanwan joked, pointing to the bump in her belly where an uneven spot appeared.
Shen Yi placed his hand on Ye Wanwan’s stomach and, as if the little one inside could really sense it, a kick ca right where his palm had rested.
Feeling the baby move, Shen Yi’s lips curled into a slight smile, and unnoticed by them, sitting beside them, Taozhi also extended a paw.
Ye Wanwan and Shen Yi were both surprised, but neither of them said a word. Sensing that everything was fine, Taozhi cautiously placed its paw on Ye Wanwan’s belly.
Ye Wanwan and Shen Yi exchanged a look and couldn’t help but laugh.
When Taozhi placed its paw on Ye Wanwan’s belly and was kicked by Zhouzhou, its pupils dilated dramatically, as if it were hugely startled.
Amused, Ye Wanwan started laughing on the couch, wobbling to and fro, until Shen Yi steadied her and let her lean against him.
*
Lately, Shen Yi had been going out every morning. Except for the first day, when Uncle Zhang took him, Assistant Chen had been picking him up from ho every other ti.
Ye Wanwan always thought that Shen Yi was just going to work at the company and hadn’t asked further.
In the temple, Shen Yi was inside the hall, while Assistant Chen was outside chatting with a young monk who seed to really like Assistant Chen, sitting and laughing together in the courtyard.
Inside the inner chamber, Shen Yi placed the Longevity Plaque he had carved on the altar.
The flickering candlelight made the inscriptions clear for all to see, each stroke hand-carved by Shen Yi himself.
After positioning the Longevity Plaque, Shen Yi knelt down reverently, while Master Wangchen beside him silently chanted "Amitabha."
When Shen Yi stood up, Master Wangchen continued, "In the future, this old monk will recite sutras daily in front of the Buddha on behalf of Benefactor Shen, praying for peace."
Shen Yi bowed to Master Wangchen, conveying his gratitude without words.
Once everything was over, Shen Yi ca out of the great hall to find Assistant Chen still talking to the young monk. Seeing Shen Yi erge, Assistant Chen instinctively stood up.
"President Shen," called Assistant Chen.
"Hmm, let’s go," said Shen Yi.
Assistant Chen nodded and then looked at the young monk, "Next ti I’ll take you to Beijing, if I have the chance."
"Oh no, my master is getting on in years, and I need to stay at the temple daily to cook for him," the young monk replied earnestly.
Assistant Chen was taken aback for a mont, then laughed, "Then, I will visit again another ti."
"Alright," the young monk replied with a grin.
Upon leaving Ling’an Temple, Shen Yi didn’t go straight ho but made a stop at the company first.
