Ye Wanwan had just descended the stairs and hadn’t yet had the chance to eat breakfast when her cell phone began to ding incessantly. She quickly pulled out her phone only to discover that all the ssages were sent by Yu Qiqi.
It seed like sothing she had anticipated, yet the expression on Ye Wanwan’s face, no matter how one looked at it, seed tinged with a touch of disappointnt.
Ye Wanwan sat down at the dining table, eating breakfast while responding to Yu Qiqi’s ssages.
Yu Qiqi appeared to be in a hurry on the other end, urging her through a voice ssage. Ye Wanwan glanced at the ti. Hmm, no need to rush.
Ye Wanwan ate her breakfast unhurriedly before finally getting ready and leaving the house.
The two of them quickly t up and then set off together for S City.
...
By the ti Shen Yi disembarked from the plane, it was already evening. He wanted to return quickly, but the free ti he had was indeed insufficient.
As soon as Shen Yi stepped out of the airport, he received a number of ssage notifications on his phone.
He checked the ssages while striding toward the exit of the airport.
The ssages were not too plentiful; so from Assistant Chen, and so from other subordinates or higher-ups, undoubtedly all were reporting work-related matters to him.
Among them were also ssages from Ye Wanwan. Shen Yi clicked to view them, and he could almost imagine Ye Wanwan’s confused expression that morning when she hadn’t gotten a reply from him.
Shen Yi’s lips curved into a tender, slight smile. He didn’t reply to the ssages and put his phone back into his trouser pocket.
When Shen Yi erged from the parking lot, the driver was already waiting outside. As soon as Shen Yi got into the car, he took out his laptop to work.
To free up these three days, he had already been sleeping only four to five hours for several consecutive days. Even now that he had returned, he still needed to promptly deal with work.
However, when Shen Yi arrived ho, he discovered that Ye Wanwan was not there at all.
The servants looked sowhat oddly at their master. "Madam went to S City today with Miss Yu."
"S City?" Shen Yi’s brows furrowed slightly, his expression turning a bit stern.
The servant replied truthfully, "Yes, Madam and Miss Yu went to a concert together."
Shen Yi’s brows were tightly knitted. He was aware that this weekend Ye Wanwan planned to attend a concert with Yu Qiqi.
But he didn’t know they were going to S City to watch it, let alone that it would be today.
Isn’t today Wanwan’s birthday?
Wasn’t Wanwan supposed to have dinner today with her in-laws?
He had made a special trip back and had not yet told Wanwan, precisely because he wanted to surprise her.
Yet, Wanwan was not at ho.
Shen Yi returned to the bedroom, shed his suit jacket, and walked over to sit on the couch, wearily tugging at his tie and unfastening two buttons.
He took out his phone and called Ye Wanwan, but she didn’t manage to answer it in ti.
Looking at the automatically disconnected call, Shen Yi’s brow furrowed slightly, his emotions at the bottom of his heart indescribable.
About half an hour later, Shen Yi’s phone rang. He snapped back to reality, picked up the phone, and saw the ssage from Ye Wanwan.
Shen Yi replied to the ssage, and Ye Wanwan asked, "Are you busy with work? Will a video call disturb you right now?"
"It won’t," Shen Yi responded.
The next second, a video call ca through, and Shen Yi swiftly answered it. He could hear Ye Wanwan excitedly shouting in the video, "Shen Yi!"
"Hmm." Seeing the happy look on Ye Wanwan’s face, the depression that had lurked in Shen Yi’s mood seed to lift considerably.
It was her birthday today. As long as she was happy, that was enough.
