Over the next few days, everyone close to Skyla visited her to inquire about her health. But Zyair’s visits were daily. He would co in the morning before heading to the office and then at night too and he was never empty-handed.
He would bring her all sorts of sweet goodies, chocolates, cookies, fruits, comics and of course her favourite coffee ice cream. Along with a white lily, which he would place in the vase Huria had placed near the window.
He would sit with her and watch her eat and smile and they would talk for hours.
It was the fourth day after the incident and he brought her a white teddy bear and one of her favourite comics.
"Ohhh! This is so fluffy and cute, thank you," Skyla declared with a small giggle and hugged the bear to her chest Zyair was never so jealous of a stuffed toy, especially one which he had bought himself.
"I knew that you would like it," his gentle voice was always a source of comfort for her. The way it replaced the anxiety in her heart with calmness always puzzled her.
He noticed that the pin remained in her hair, she would never take it off.
Skyla turned to him holding the comic in her outstretched hand and shyly asked.
"Will you read it to ?"
Zyair was stunned for a second and then he nodded and accepted it.
"It will be my pleasure."
Skyla leaned against her bed with her new stuffed toy plastered to her bosom. Her eyes focused on her boss who seed like a royalty sitting in that chair with such regal finesse.
Skyla couldn’t help but stare as he started reading. Since his eyes were downcast, the long lashes shadowed the soft parts under his eyes. A few locks of his raven hair were falling in front and a bubbling desire to push them away surfaced in Skyla.
His baritone voice flowed and entrapped her and she just couldn’t look away. No matter what she told herself her eyes wouldn’t budge from him.
Finishing a few pages he lifted his lashes and found her deeply staring at her. A content smirk appeared on his covered face while his heart fluttered like the delicate wings of a butterfly.
Their gazes connected and he held hers, the ocean blue colliding with the forest green and creating a symphony that only belonged to them and then he decided to tease her.
"Miss Skyla? Were you listening or were you lost?" His voice held this small tease which brought Skyla back to her senses and she quickly averted her needy eyes.
’What was I thinking staring so openly at my boss?’ she chided herself and squeaked out.
"I was listening," she lied, her cheeks turning to cherries. In reality, she just wanted to be lost in his voice, to let it keep calming her. She wasn’t sure how long before Doran wouldn’t let her continue this job. But for now, she wanted to bask in every affection this generous man offered.
"Right. What was I saying?" he playfully asked and Skyla had no answer. She had stopped listening a long ti ago. Not only her cheeks but her ears were burning now too.
"Umm...I," the embarrassnt was real when he burst out laughing and cheerfully said.
"I am just ssing with you. I will read it again."
The door opened and Huria entered with Skyla’s food in a tray. Placing the portable table on the bed she placed it down.
"Now be a good girl and finish everything I have made. You have grown too thin," Huria ordered in her bossy tone, her both hands on her hips.
Zyair closed the comic and placed it on his right thigh before adding.
"That’s what I keep telling Miss Skyla."
"You people are going to fatten up, if I am not careful I will turn into this teddy bear soon." She pouted and both of them giggled.
"And we won’t mind, right Miss Huria?" Zyair arched a brow at her and she vehently nodded.
"Not one bit. Now finish everything up or I will feed you myself." Huria handed her a spoon and she began to eat without protest.
Zyair relaxed and watched her eat with contentnt filling his heart.
Once she had finished, Huria handed her pills to be taken with a glass of water and Skyla scowled.
"They are bitter, I don’t like them."
"Miss Skyla, think of them as tiny ninjas from Hidden Leaf village ready to defend your body against infections," Zyair helpfully added, making her scowl disappear. The precious smile he loved crept up on her face and she took the pills without further complaints.
Huria then applied the healing balms on her hand, cheek and neck. The ugly scars sat there as if mocking him. While the one on her cheek and neck would disappear he knew the one on her hand would not fade and the painful mories they carried would remain, forever.

The next day Amsilia brought along Skyla’s cell phone, work tablet and clothes. Doran had left them in her room and Skyla had requested her to bring them so she could work on her comic at least because Zyair had told her she wouldn’t be doing any office work until she recovered fully.
Amsilia was concerned with the cold attitude Huria had been portraying. She wanted to bring Skyla ho but with Doran gone and Skyla showing reluctance to return, she wasn’t sure what to do.
She decided to speak directly to Huria. Amsilia arrived at her house and Huria served her tea in the living room away from Skyla. Amsilia reluctantly asked.
"You have been giving a cold shoulder Huria. Why is that? You know how concerned I am about Skyla’s well-being."
Huria scoffed, placing her cup down on the table with a loud clunk.
"Oh! Please, you don’t have to act all sweet in front of . I know very well the hand you have in raising an abusive son who is nothing but a wife-beater."
A cold bucket of water seed to have been poured over Amsilia. The words stung her and she knew she had failed as a mother but not even in her imagination she wanted Skyla to get hurt.
"I don’t condone his actions and I try to protect Skyla. Not that I always succeed but I would never want for her to get hurt." The last ti he had hurt her with a belt, she tried to wedge herself between them and tried doing everything in her power to keep the peace. She had no clue that he had staged all this.
"Condone? Did you condone what he did to her now? Or were you too busy turning a blind eye and drinking up his lies?" Huria asked with a sneer, her eyes burning with hatred.
"Now?" Amsilia was flabbergasted.
"Yes! Ask your son what heinous acts he did. If it was in my hands, I would never let her return to that piece of shit. But my hands are tied and it hurts my soul that she has to go live with people like you." Huria snarled at her in pure disgust as if she were talking to dirt. Taking her cup she got up leaving the elderly woman surrounded by very disturbing thoughts.
