The morning dawned and Skyla’s eyes opened when the initial rays of the sun hit her face. She awakened to find Doran was already up, dressed and having his usual cup of coffee on her divan.

The only thing she had seen blackest than that coffee he drank was his heart. He tentatively took a sip and patted the place next to him before ordering in an unperturbed and placid tone.

"Co and sit with ."

Skyla’s anxiety rose through the roof and her heart beat so fast that she thought it would burst. That calm tone she understood too well, it always followed by a wrecking storm which always turned her life upside down.

She was frozen on the bed watching him with fearful eyes.

"Skyla, I don’t like to repeat myself." The shift in his tone was slight and yet she didn’t want to test the waters.

Unwantedly she left the bed and slowly walked over to him before sitting down at so distance. Her heartbeat so rapid that it was the only sound that gonged in her ears.

"Did Zyair sign the contract?" He asked, taking a sip from his mug.

"Yes!"

"With whom?" His voice, dangerously calm.

"B & J’s," Skyla knew it was pointless to lie on this front he would discover what company they had signed the deal with.

"So he didn’t even try with The Urbans? What kind of fool is he?" Doran scoffed, while his devilish eyes remained fixated on her.

Skyla’s heart thrashed against her ribcage as she was reminded of the events that led Zyair to terminate the contract he had signed. Her body shivered and she wrapped her arms around herself in a reassuring way.

"He did but there was so pricing issue so the deal didn’t get through." She lied in a shaky voice and just prayed in her heart that Doran wouldn’t see through it. She was a terrible liar.

"Hmmm, makes sense. Both are big companies so of course their heads are inflated with pride. It’s advantageous for , once I steady my company I will not rest in peace until I bring him to his knees," a hollow laugh followed Doran’s words as this sinister look passed over his handso face.

Skyla’s heart brimd with hate. Zyair was a million tis the man Doran could ever be. He had lent him a helping hand in tis of need and yet Doran had nothing but vile intentions for him.

"He is the only one who helped you during your low. How can you have such thoughts for soone who did nothing but aid you?" Skyla against all her judgnt couldn’t hold back her contempt.

"Won will always think with their puny brains. It’s all about competition in the business world. Don’t be so foolish to believe he did that out of the goodness of his heart. You know nothing."

Doran knew a lot of his employees went to work for Kincaid International in the last few years. He wasn’t an idiot to not see why that had happened.

His dislike for Zyair had been spiking with every passing day. In Doran’s opinion, Zyair had snatched and achieved what should have been his.

Skyla chose to ignore his misogynistic words. She didn’t want to give him more fuel by siding with Zyair. That she would do in her heart.

"Did you get to see his face? Didn’t he eat or drink in front of you?" Doran threw another question at her, his eyes swirling with curiosity.

"No, he takes his privacy very seriously and eats alone."

Skyla answered, hoping he would let this go and head out.

"I wonder why he does that? What’s he got to hide, until and unless he has a shady past? Maybe he is a criminal," Doran chuckled to himself as if he had cracked a big joke and Skyla just stared at the man and wondered if he was being serious.

"I want you to capture a picture of him sohow without the mask. That would be essential in the recipe for his downfall. So act nice to him and win his trust and when he won’t even see it coming just do the job I have sent you to do."

Skyla’s head began to spin from the absurdities that were coming out of her husband’s mouth this early in the morning.

"Won are not allowed in his vicinity nor does he ever take off the mask during office hours. This is ridiculous, what you are asking of ." She shook her head and Doran got up from the divan emptying the mug in his throat. He placed it aside and grabbed Skyla’s face making her stare directly into those frosty dead eyes.

"Use what little brain you have been endowed with. Secretaries hold so much power over their bosses and here you are unable to perform one single task. I want that picture and any personal information you can gather on him. Don’t disappoint ."

Leaning in he peppered a small kiss on her forehead and Skyla’s skin burnt from where his lips had touched her as if she had been branded.

"Be a good girl now. Go and change. You have work to do." Letting her face go, Doran grabbed his car keys and wallet before heading out, closing the door behind him.

Skyla was rattled, her insides scread. Doran had created an avalanche and pushed her right under it. This was going to end in a disaster for her but she would not betray Zyair. If Doran wanted to torture her he could she would not bend or fall to his level.

How could she even think of betraying a man who saved her from getting raped? Who was fast erging as soone she could trust and rely on.

No, he gave her the title of his guardian angel and she would not disappoint him.

With a newfound shade of confidence, Skyla left the divan and headed to get ready for her office. She threw one final look at herself in the mirror, extracted the box her boss had given her and took out the pin.

The determination flashed on her face as she swiftly placed the pin in her hair and smiled.
