Skyla’s arrival at Kincaid International sparked so much interest. The news of her being hired as Zyair’s secretary spread like wildfire throughout the company and everyone wanted to have a peek at the girl who had done what no other woman could.
The next day when Skyla arrived, the place seed more congested than ever. There were more people to greet than normally were in the lobby.
They tried to act discreetly but a few recognised who she was and believed she was hired because of the rger of the two companies.
Skyla tried to smile and greet all of them politely, although she could feel so envious eyes, especially from won. They murmured to themselves while shooting her hostile looks.
One of them was Amber; she was the Brand Manager in the Marketing and Sales Departnt. Hired by Montague Kincaid three years ago she rose to ranks quickly. Her eyes were set on Zyair but he hardly ever spoke to her other than important business matters. His mystified nature pulled her like a magnet and yet he paid her no heed. She wasn’t even allowed in his four feet radius.
"Wasn’t it enough that she had trapped Doran, now she had to go and charm soone like Mr. Zyair too?" she complained to her friend, flicking back her perfect raven hair.
"So won are such charrs," her friend snorted. Both of them watched Skyla strode towards the elevator leading to the top office.
Ignoring their petulant behaviour, Skyla moved toward the elevator and pressed the top button. Her spirit was already down and now all the staring and whispering had made her more self-conscious.
Reaching the top, the elevator dinged and she exited it, carrying her bag and folder of all the remaining nine drawings. As usual, she went straight to her boss’s office.
Knocking on the door she entered his office. This ti Zyair instantly lifted his head to stare at her and his heart jabbed at the amount of make-up that was on her face and neck today.
The sunshine energy which radiated off her in the past two days was missing and the smile she was carrying seed utterly forced. His office didn’t brighten up today because of her warm tinkling glow.
"Good morning! Mr. Zyair," the chirpy enthusiasm and that gleam she carried in her mint-shaded eyes was dulled and dragged.
"Good morning! Miss. Skyla, please have a seat," he offered in a soothing voice and Skyla took hesitant steps before settling down into the seat before the red line. She elegantly crossed her legs, placing the folder on her lap and her hands clasped over it.
"Were you able to complete all the character designs?" he straightened his back, while his sharp gaze remained glued to her face, roaming on it to find the source of her ire.
"I did, Sir," she clutched the file tightly in her hands waiting for his permission to place it on his table.
"Let see it," he asked, stretching out his hand so she would co forward and hand it over to him, instead of sliding it across the table.
Skyla saw his hand being held out and a hint of concern flashing in his agate-coloured eyes. She slowly got up, lacking the energy to carry herself today. Constant abuse was exhausting.
Crossing the forbidden line she handed over the file in which she had neatly placed all of her drawings.
As she drew near he could unquestionably notice the thick coating of makeup. She hadn’t been wearing it in the last two days. What he had been fearing was standing like an ugly truth right before his eyes.
Zyair wanted to punch the fucker and beat the shit out of him. How could he keep hurting soone as innocent as her? But the makeup didn’t hide the deep hurt and heartrending angst that peeked at him, originating from years of abuse.
Zyair understood these emotions too well, this vicious cycle was nothing foreign to him. But he found his liberation and he knew he would be damned if he didn’t help this gorgeous woman in front of him to find hers.
He quietly accepted the file and lowered his gaze before opening it. The drawings he saw were as neat, immaculate and detailed as the first one and Zyair was captured in their finesse. Skyla shifted back to her seat. She had caught the whiff of his oceanic freshness and it was soothing in ways she didn’t want her mind to accept.
"These are very impressive, I must comnd your drawing skills, Miss Skyla. Anyone labelling you as a re housewife would be nothing less than a fool." He t her gaze and took a jibe at her husband. The corners of her lips twitched in a small smile.
Zyair confidently thought to himself.
’Baby steps, Zyair.’
"I am glad you liked them," she accepted his gratitude with a slight bow of her head.
"Today we will hold a eting with our Ani Departnt and discuss all these characters. I would like for you to acquaint yourself with them. The faster we start the production of these costus, the better." Zyair closed the red file and placed his large hand on it.
"I am looking forward to that," a hint of excitent had returned in her forrly saddened eyes as she got up to take her leave. But before she could do that, Skyla hesitated for the slightest of seconds and then spoke.
"Mr. Zyair, I appreciate you sending a car for my pick-and-drop but I would like to respectfully decline it. Knowing that the main concern is my arrival on ti, I promise to never be late. But let handle my transport." She had crafted her words very carefully and it was still apparent to him that she didn’t want to offend.
Thinking of yesterday, there was no issue and suddenly today she had declined it.
Though it gave him another insight into the mind of this amazing lady, the constraints she was held in and the battles she fought.
Zyair understood now the reason behind Doran’s call yesterday and her wearing makeup today and now her denial of accepting his help.
Skyla had enough problems on his plate and Zyair didn’t want to beco an additional one. He will help her but not at the expense of creating trouble.
"I understand, Miss Skyla. But if you ever do, a car will always be there to pick you up and drop you off," Zyair countered, seeing her determined face.
"Thank you for your understanding, Sir." She politely smiled before departing from his room. Leaving him in a slight awe of her tenacity.
