Chapter 270: Chapter 270: Beautifully Done

The situation wouldn’t have escalated so badly, but Cara Preston was carrying far too many cheat sheets. When Elise Langdon was caught, she adamantly denied everything and kept trying to shift the blame to Vera Xavier. This infuriated the male proctor, who reported the incident to the principal of No. 2 High School. The principal, in turn, reported it to the Education Bureau, which resulted in both girls having their exam qualifications revoked.

As the Chinese language exam drew to a close, Cara Preston and Elise Langdon still hadn’t returned. Vera Xavier already guessed the outcome. A faint smile graced her lips; without those annoying people hanging around, her mood had brightened considerably.

After the Chinese exam, there was a ten-minute break. Shirley Forrest walked over to Vera Xavier’s side and said, "I saw everything."

Vera Xavier looked at her. Shirley calmly said, "I saw Cara Preston throw the note to frame you. I saw you flick it over to Elise Langdon, and I also saw you trip Cara Preston."

Vera Xavier knew it wasn’t surprising for Shirley Forrest to have seen the whole thing from her vantage point. She smiled faintly. Shirley’s lips curved into a smile as well, and she gave Vera a thumbs-up. "Well played!"

Vera Xavier was taken aback for a moment. Shirley continued, "Cara Preston’s Heart Skill is corrupt; she wanted to harm you. It was obvious Elise Langdon was her accomplice. They got what they deserved!"

Having your eligibility for the college entrance exam revoked for cheating was a very serious matter. At this time, there wasn’t yet a policy banning cheaters from retaking the exam for three years, but the incident would still go on their permanent academic record and affect them for the rest of their lives.

Vera Xavier smiled and said, "They must have been planning this for a while. They just never expected it to backfire on them."

Shirley Forrest nodded. "To be honest, sometimes I feel sorry for you, having a sister like that."

Vera Xavier shrugged. Shirley added, "But honestly, I’m more impressed by how calmly you handled the situation."

Vera Xavier smiled back. "We should get back to the classroom. The next exam is about to start."

There were only two exams that morning. When Vera Xavier finished, Nathaniel Nathan was the only one waiting for her outside. Zachary Preston was nowhere to be seen. She figured, nine times out of ten, Cara Preston had thrown another tantrum, and Zachary had no choice but to take her home.

Upon seeing Nathaniel Nathan, Vera Xavier smiled and walked over to him. He didn’t ask how her exams went, simply saying, "Well done. Just like my woman."

Vera Xavier was taken aback for a second before realizing he was talking about the incident with Cara Preston. She chuckled softly.

Nathaniel Nathan added, "When dealing with malicious people like that, you only need to remember one thing: just go beat them up. I’ll have your back no matter what. If I’m not around, go find my grandfather."

Vera Xavier was speechless.

’I’m a model student, not some street-brawling delinquent!’

Nathaniel Nathan frowned. "What? You don’t agree with what I said?"

Vera Xavier said earnestly, "Nathaniel Nathan, I will work hard to become stronger, so that one day, I’ll be able to handle everything that comes my way on my own."

Nathaniel Nathan’s frown deepened. Vera Xavier looked him in the eye and said, "I told you before, I don’t want to be your burden. I want to be your equal, someone who can stand by your side."

Nathaniel Nathan huffed and turned to leave. After two steps, he noticed she wasn’t following. He spun back to face her, thrusting out his hand with a stony expression. His posture practically screamed, "I’ve held out my hand. If you don’t take it, I’m turning back to beat you!"

Vera Xavier knew her words had angered Lord Nathan. She quickly took his hand to soothe his ruffled feathers. "I’ll treat you to a nice lunch today."
