Chapter 256: Chapter 256: Thank You for Your Deep Love

Nathaniel Nathan frowned and asked her, "Thank me for what?"

"Thank you for liking me." Vera Xavier didn’t dare to look at him as she spoke. She would never have said such a thing to him on any other day.

After seeing Sheldon Caldwell today, she found herself involuntarily recalling many events from her past life. Nathaniel Nathan had been a part of so many of them, a fact she’d never noticed before. Now that she thought about it, she realized it, and it made her appreciate the depth of his affection for her even more.

Nathaniel Nathan was a little surprised she had said that, so he asked, "You said I like you. Well, do you like me?"

Vera Xavier froze, suddenly feeling like she had just dug her own grave. To say she liked him now felt somewhat dishonest, but to say she didn’t... that wasn’t right either. Unable to sort out her own feelings, she hesitated.

To him, her hesitation was a clear sign that she didn’t like him. He scoffed. "Who said I like you? How could I possibly like a brainless, flat-chested woman like you?"

"Then why did you marry me?" Vera Xavier asked. She was all too familiar with this duplicity of his; she had witnessed it countless times in her past life. Their relationship had become so strained precisely because of it. It was just that in this lifetime, she no longer believed his words.

Nathaniel Nathan was taken aback for a moment, then gave an answer that was practically begging for a punch. "I wanted to find a woman to legally do... *that* with. You just happened to be the brainless one who stumbled into my path."

Vera Xavier figured it was a good thing she already knew how he truly felt about her. Otherwise, based on that sentence alone, she would have cut all ties with him!

She huffed and turned her head away, refusing to look at him.

Pushing his luck, he added, "So, when are you planning on sleeping with me?"

Having finally reached her limit, Vera Xavier grabbed a throw pillow from the car and smacked him over the head. "Never in your life!"

Nathaniel Nathan was caught completely off guard. Thankfully, his driving skills were superb, and he expertly pulled the car over to the side of the road. Then, he reached out and scooped her up, pulling her into his lap so she was straddling his legs.

Even in the spacious cockpit of the Mercedes, her presence made the space feel cramped. Her chest was pressed tightly against his, and her back was pushed up against the steering wheel.

The heat of his breath instantly ghosted across her neck, sending a tingling sensation through her. Their position was far too intimate. Even though they were inside the car, it was the middle of rush hour, and people were coming and going all along the road.

If anyone saw them in this position, she would simply die of shame!

Vera Xavier grew nervous and struggled to get off him, but he held her fast. One of his hands cupped her hip while the other wrapped around her waist, pressing her tightly against him. Her face instantly flushed red. "Nathaniel Nathan, let go of me!"

Nathaniel Nathan’s lips were less than a millimeter from hers. The moment she spoke, her lips brushed against his.

They were far too close. Vera Xavier wanted to pull away, but there was nowhere to retreat. All she could do was look at him.

Their eyes met. She saw the emotions churning in his deep-set gaze—anger, resignation, and a profound affection. A wave of regret washed over her. ’Why on earth did I bring that up! This is pure self-torture!’

His voice was slightly hoarse. "Vera Xavier, repeat what you just said."

Vera Xavier knew he wasn’t referring to her "Nathaniel Nathan, let go of me!" but to her "Never in your life!"

She had a distinct feeling that if she dared to say it again, there was a very high chance he would pull her pants down right then and there in the car!
