Chapter 517: 517: Xinglan chases his wife to the crematorium, Lihua makes progress in pursuing his wife (second update)
The family mber who had attempted to start the fire was subdued by the security guards before he could light the match, thankfully resulting in no casualties—it was a re false alarm.
On the way back, Old Tan was driving.
“Mr. Lu.”
Lu Xinglan, with his eyes closed in the back seat, didn’t respond.
Had he fallen asleep again? Old Tan initially wanted to ask him where he had just gone.
Ding.
Lu Xinglan opened his eyes and picked up his phone.
Old Tan: “…” His call was completely ignored!
Lu Xinglan opened WeChat and glanced at the na and avatar before accepting the friend request. East Factory Chen Xiangxiang’s avatar was a very cute and stupid pig.
East Factory Chen Xiangxiang sent him a greeting first: “Mr. Lu~”
Lu Xinglan’s WeChat na was his real na, and his avatar was the system’s default image.
Lu Xinglan replied: “Hmm”
Not a single punctuation mark.
Then… there was no follow-up.
Lu Xinglan stared at the screen for a while, put down his phone, and closed his eyes.
Ten seconds later, he opened his eyes, changed East Factory Chen Xiangxiang’s contact na to Nurse Chen, put down the phone again, and continued to close his eyes. He put his hand in his pocket and felt the box that contained the alarm clock. Up to now, he still couldn’t figure out why he had brought that stupid alarm clock with him when he ran off.
Ding.
He imdiately opened his eyes, picked up his phone, and opened WeChat.
Nurse Chen had sent over a “Fairy Descending” emoji, along with a ssage: “I am Chen Xiangtai.”
Lu Xinglan: “.”
This ti, no words, just a punctuation mark.
Then… again no follow-up.
Lu Xinglan waited a while, his fingers tapping here and there seemingly casually and disinterestedly. After a series of taps, he changed the contact na to Chen Xiangtai, then tossed the phone aside.
Old Tan quietly took all this in and asked nonchalantly, “Who’s that?”
Lu Xinglan closed his eyes: “Soone I don’t know well.”
Ding.
He imdiately picked up his phone and opened WeChat.
This ti Chen Xiangtai sent a voice ssage: “Mr. Lu, I have to go give a patient an injection, so I won’t chat with you for now.”
Lu Xinglan: “Hmm,” again without using any extra punctuation.
Oh, Nurse Chen, huh. Old Tan thought to himself: Soone he doesn’t know well? Heh.
At that mont, a car behind them started honking its horn like crazy.
Old Tan glanced at the rearview mirror and clicked his tongue in amazent, “These young people nowadays,” so impetuous.
The BMW behind was still honking like mad.
The Audi driver to the left was in sync with Old Tan as they drove side by side, while the BMW turned off its music, opened its convertible roof, and the man in the passenger seat stood up provocatively: “Hey in front, move the f**k over!”
There were four young n and won seated in the BMW.
Move over?
No way! When Old Tan was younger, he was a local big shot with a temper of his own; he sped up, and so did the Audi and the BMW. After he slowed down, the Audi slowed down, and the BMW had to slow down, whether it liked it or not. Old Tan toyed with the BMW for a while and only slowed down leisurely as they approached the intersection.
“Bang—”
The dumbass behind actually crashed into them.
Old Tan: “…”
Lu Xinglan opened his eyes.
Old Tan felt guilty; he truly hadn’t expected the BMW to be that stupid.
Lu Xinglan didn’t say anything else, simply instructing, “Call a car to pick up.”
“Yes.”
Before Old Tan’s call went through, the driver of the BMW angrily ca over to knock on the window—a tall and thin figure with high cheekbones and drooping eyes: “Aren’t you coming out yet!”
Lu Xinglan felt a bit sleepy and lazily lifted his eyelids.
Old Tan quickly said, “You sleep, I’ll handle it.”
“No need to call a taxi.”
Old Tan: “Huh?”
Lu Xinglan was concise, “Call the police.”
In the early winter season, the skies of Imperial City darkened early; it was just past five o’clock and it was already gloomy outside. Liu Piaopia had just finished her shift and saw Chen Xiangtai putting on clothes and heading out.
“Why the hurry, where are you going?”
She turned back, grabbed her bag, “I have to go now, I’ll tell you tomorrow.”
After she spoke, she hurried away. Her phone in her pocket rang, and she answered the call with one hand while undoing her hair with the other, “Dongshan.”
“Have you finished work?”
“Just finished.” Chen Xiangtai said, “I need to go to the police station, don’t bother making dinner for .”
Lin Dongshan asked, “What happened?”
“Chen Debao was in a traffic accident, now at the police station.” Chen Xiangtai was annoyed; she was so rushed that she even hurt her scalp while undoing her hair.
“Where did he get the car?”
“It’s his classmate’s.”
The classmate was a rich kid, both had been drinking, and Chen Debao drove. Chen Xiangtai figured they were definitely the ones at fault.
Lin Dongshan didn’t ask further, “If you need money, just log into my account, the password’s still the sa.”
“I can’t use your money, you still have a child to raise.” Chen Xiangtai was also broke and had made up her mind, “Chen Yuanshan and Tan Xiuqing have money, let them pay.”
Two years ago, when the old house of the Chen Family was demolished, Chen Yuanshan had received two apartnts, so he couldn’t be out of money.
Lin Dongshan instructed her, “If there’s an issue, call the head nurse of my departnt, her husband is a lawyer.”
“Okay.”
Lin Dongshan hung up and went looking for the head nurse of the departnt.
The head nurse, surnad Wan, was an easy-going and enthusiastic person; she readily agreed, “Sure, I’ll call my husband.” She then asked Lin Dongshan, “Aren’t you going to be working overti later, have you found soone to pick up your child?”
With two nurses on maternity leave in the operating room, they were short-staffed, and Lin Dongshan had been temporarily transferred to the surgical operating room from the general surgery ward last month.
Ms. Xiao, the landlady, was recently out of town, and Lin Dongshan had intended to ask Chen Xiangtai to pick up Guyu.
“Not yet.”
“What will you do?” The head nurse was sowhat aware of Lin Dongshan’s situation; she was a single mother with no relatives in Imperial City.
“I’ll have Guyu go to his teacher’s house for now.”
The head nurse asked, “Do you need to pay for the after-school care?” She guessed it wouldn’t be cheap.
“Yes.”
“I’ll go pick him up.” The voice ca from the doorway.
The head nurse looked at the man at the door and then at Lin Dongshan before stepping out, noting that this patient with a slight concussion and Nurse Lin seed to have a more than ordinary relationship.
There was no one else in the rest area, Lin Dongshan asked, “When did you co over?”
Su Lihua stepped in, “I’ve been here for a while.” he said, “I’ll go pick up Guyu.”
“No need.”
She turned him down firmly.
Completely disobedient, unlike in bed.
Su Lihua walked toward her, she imdiately stepped back, but he didn’t stop, cornering her against the wall: “If I took Guyu, would you co to after him?”
He was threatening her.
Everyone at Pullman knew the Su Family had three masters, none easy to ss with, even the seemingly most dispassionate Su Lihua.
Lin Dongshan leaned against the wall, cornered, “You—”
He interrupted, “I’m going to pick him up.”
His tone was forceful, leaving no room for negotiation.
Lin Dongshan was silent for a while, then compromised, “Okay.”
“I’ll bring Guyu to the hospital, and after your work, co to my room.”
“Mhm.”
He lifted the corners of his lips and left.
Lin Dongshan, leaning against the wall, felt her heart pounding; not from fear of him, but because she had just felt a twinge of greed.
