Sun i and Zhao Dong were particular sore spots for Sun Ying and Granny Guan. The better Sun i’s life beca, the more resentful Sun Ying and Granny Guan grew.
Now, hearing this, their faces turned as black as the soot on the bottom of a pot. In the end, they angrily turned around and went back ho.
"PTUI! What rubbish!" the Aunt spat towards Granny Guan’s house.
Then she looked at Sun Lan. "Little Sister, why are you standing outside the courtyard all alone? If I hadn’t noticed you’d been gone a while after throwing out the water and co looking for you, Sun Ying and her daughter would have bullied you to death."
Sun Lan nodded gratefully. "Thank you, Second Sister-in-law."
At this mont, Zhao Zhitong and Sun i, hearing the commotion outside, also ran out.
Seeing that everything was fine, Sun i prepared to pull Sun Lan back ho. But her hand had barely grabbed Sun Lan’s arm when Sun Lan suddenly gasped and flinched away.
Sun i was taken aback, sensing sothing was wrong, and imdiately asked, "What’s wrong, Little Sister?"
Sun Lan shook her head with a smile. "It’s nothing, nothing. I might have strained my arm when I splashed the water earlier. I’ll be fine after moving it a bit. Let’s go, let’s go inside."
Sun i was sowhat puzzled. But seeing that Sun Lan didn’t want to say more, she didn’t press further. However, she decided to keep a closer eye on Sun Lan.
There weren’t actually many dishes to wash, so they finished quickly.
The won then sat in the courtyard, chatting.
「anwhile, in the living room」
Wang Fugui had beco increasingly restless.
Seeing that it was getting darker and they would soon be leaving, and Sun Lan hadn’t yet asked for the money, Wang Fugui began to grow anxious.
His gaze occasionally darted towards the courtyard. Sun Lan was currently chatting with Sun i and Zhao Guifen. From the looks of it, she hadn’t brought up the money.
Finally, he couldn’t bear it any longer. He stood up, went out to the courtyard, and walked over to Sun Lan. Lowering his voice, he said to her, "Co with ."
Zhao Guifen and Sun i both looked at him.
Wang Fugui imdiately forced a dry laugh and said to Zhao Guifen, "Mother-in-law, I just want to have a word with Lanlan."
After Wang Fugui appeared, Sun Lan imdiately looked uneasy. She stood up and whispered, "Mother, Sister-in-law, I’ll be right back."
Then she followed Wang Fugui outside.
Watching Sun Lan’s retreating figure, Sun i’s eyes flickered. She patted Zhao Zhitong, who was nestled in her lap.
Zhao Zhitong instantly understood. She got up and, pretending to play, ran towards the doorway.
She had just neared the doorway when she intermittently heard Wang Fugui’s exasperated voice, saying sothing about "money" and "wanting it."
Then ca her aunt’s tearful voice, saying sothing about how she couldn’t bring herself to ask, how she’d lose face, or sothing like that.
Zhao Zhitong pursed her small lips. Her mother had guessed right. This detestable uncle-in-law accompanying her aunt on this family visit surely wasn’t up to any good.
She slowly walked to the courtyard gate. The voices were coming from the left side. Zhao Zhitong leaned against the doorfra, poked her little head out, and looked to the left.
Then she saw her wicked uncle-in-law standing with his back to her. Her aunt was standing opposite him, completely blocked from Zhao Zhitong’s view by her uncle-in-law, so she couldn’t see her aunt’s expression at that mont.
However, from her angle, she could clearly see that her wicked uncle-in-law was twisting her aunt’s arm.
He was hitting her aunt!
So, Zhao Zhitong sprang out from the doorway and shouted loudly, "Mom! Mom! Co quick! Wicked Uncle-in-law is hitting my aunt!"
Sun i had been watching that direction closely. Upon hearing Zhao Zhitong’s voice, she imdiately stood up and ran towards the door.
The two aunts and the grandmother also got up and followed her out.
Wang Fugui, startled by Zhao Zhitong’s sudden appearance, quickly pulled back the hand that was twisting Sun Lan’s arm and snapped fiercely at Zhao Zhitong, "You damned girl! So young yet spouting such nonsense! When did I hit your aunt?"
Zhao Zhitong, however, had already run to Sun i’s side. Pointing at Wang Fugui, she tattled, "Mom, I saw Wicked Uncle-in-law hitting Auntie with my own eyes! He hit her arm, right here, like this!"
As she spoke, Zhao Zhitong demonstrated on her own small arm for Sun i and the others to see.
By now, Zhao Guifen had also co out. She looked at Wang Fugui and Sun Lan, her expression unreadable.
Wang Fugui still wanted to argue, but Sun i went straight over to Sun Lan. Not giving Sun Lan a chance to resist, she directly grabbed Sun Lan’s arm and pushed up her sleeve.
Instantly, the crisscrossed, bluish-purple bruises on her slender arm were revealed to everyone.
Everyone was stunned, their eyes widening in disbelief.
Sun i was closest and saw the injuries most clearly. She was the most shocked. Realizing sothing, she quickly pulled the sleeve back down and, holding Sun Lan’s hand, said to Zhao Guifen, "Mom, let’s not talk about this out here. Co on, let’s go inside the house first."
Zhao Guifen took a deep breath, as if she had just snapped back to her senses. After a few more deep breaths, she nodded.
When she saw the ghastly bruises on Sun Lan’s arm, her heart clenched painfully.
She blad this daughter for being disobedient, cold, and heartless, caring only for her husband’s family and nothing for whether her own family lived or died, which had deeply disappointed her. But Sun Lan was her daughter, after all, her own flesh and blood, the daughter she had doted on and raised before her marriage. Now, she was being bullied like this. Her heart filled with rage; she felt like she could kill Wang Fugui as she looked at him.
She imdiately grabbed Wang Fugui and started pulling him towards the house.
The two aunts also understood the gravity of the situation. They hurriedly followed them into the courtyard and even closed the main gate.
At this ti, the grandfather, Zhao Dong, and the three uncles had all co out of the living room. Seeing Zhao Guifen dragging Wang Fugui towards the house, they imdiately asked, "What’s going on?"
Zhao Guifen glared at Wang Fugui, then looked at Sun Lan and asked sternly, "Tell us yourself, how did you get these injuries on you!"
Sun Lan instinctively glanced at Wang Fugui, then timidly lowered her head and didn’t dare to make a sound.
Seeing Sun Lan’s weak appearance, Sun i felt a tightness in her chest; she was truly anxious for her. "Little Sister, hurry up and tell us! Were these injuries from your husband hitting you? Don’t be afraid. As long as you speak up, Mom and your brothers will all stand up for you!"
Hearing this, the three uncles instinctively moved to protect their sister, all glaring angrily at Wang Fugui.
Wang Fugui saw that Sun Lan still looked so ek, and his confidence surged. He imdiately shook off Zhao Guifen’s grip.
He straightened his clothes, his expression extrely unpleasant. "Mother-in-law, Sister-in-law, what do you an by this? If you don’t welco , that’s fine, but don’t you dare wrong ! Sun Lan’s injuries have nothing to do with . She got them herself!"
After saying that, he glared at Sun Lan. "Quick, tell your mother-in-law and the others, didn’t you get those injuries yourself?"
The warning and threat in his words couldn’t have been more obvious.
This blatant bullying of Sun Lan... it was as if he was absolutely certain he could get away with it because of her ekness!
Sun i looked at Sun Lan. This ti, she didn’t speak for her. It was up to Sun Lan herself.
If she still wouldn’t speak up and allowed herself to be bullied, then Sun i decided she might as well not ddle in this affair!
