Chapter 639: Chapter 406 Jennifer
“Princess Jennifer?”
Leaving the secret chamber, Jennifer had yet to co back to her senses and dazedly boarded her venerable carriage, until after waiting a while without hearing the coachman inquire as instructed, she suddenly woke up.
“Go to the Nara Dress Shop,” she straightened her clothes and said softly.
However, no sooner had the carriage left the palace than it abruptly stopped on a broad avenue.
“What’s the matter?” Jennifer was taken aback for a mont and instinctively pulled aside the curtain of the carriage window to look outside.
Two figures clad in exquisite wizard robes stood in front of the carriage.
“Princess Jennifer, it turns out this is a royal carriage. We are new here and unfamiliar, seeing this carriage as sowhat suspicious, so we stopped it to question,” Com said with ‘surprise’.
“This is my exclusive carriage,” Jennifer replied, her face taut.
Moreover, there was clearly a distinct Roon Family crest outside… Feeling the hostility of the two, Com’s arrival made her nervous.
“I see. I rember earlier at the dress shop, I saw your Highness. Why have you returned to the Palace only to leave again?”
Com scrutinized the young-faced Jennifer, his gaze unabashed, then suddenly asked a question out of the blue.
The latter’s heart skipped a beat. Although she told herself to stay calm, at such a mont, her mind inevitably went blank, and a trace of panic couldn’t help but show in her eyes.
After all, she was just a thirteen-year-old girl, and she had just heard a stern talking-to from her grandfather in the secret chamber. Her state of mind was still not adjusted.
Moreover, actually feeling guilty, even an adult, without any ntal preparation, could hardly remain composed and clear-headed when faced with such a sudden interrogation by Com, let alone an innocent girl.
Seeing Jennifer’s deanor, Com slightly narrowed his eyes.
Tiny beads of sweat broke out on her back. The more Jennifer tried to speak and respond, the less she could say.
The token and a contract of promise given to her by her grandfather were in her bosom, containing too much information, absolutely not to be known by Com and his companion in front of her!
“What are you saying, sir? This is the Palace, not a prison. The Princess naturally can go out whenever she pleases,” the middle-aged coachman with frosted temples suddenly said with a smile.
Com frowned and instinctively turned his gaze to the coachman.
“There was a white dress earlier, and when I ca back, I really liked it, so I decided to go and buy it now.” With this diversion, Jennifer finally steadied her nerves and quickly said with a smile:
Com did not heed her words, instead fixating his gaze on the coachman with a cold expression.
“My apologies for the offense…” the middle-aged coachman lowered his head, ready to apologize at the right ti.
“What do you think you are, daring to speak to Lord Com like that!”
However, Antoine, standing beside Com, suddenly burst out in anger and, with a wave of his hand, summoned a streak of crimson light shooting towards the coachman.
Whoosh!
The middle-aged coachman’s pupils sharply contracted, and the next mont, his head and neck were abruptly severed, warm blood spattering the ground.
“Ah!” Jennifer in the carriage stifled a cry with her hand over her mouth, her face instantly turning pale as snow.
“Antoine,” it was only then that Com seed to react, rebuking Antoine lightly but firmly.
His face once again assud a fake smile as he turned again to Jennifer, “Sorry for alarming your Highness.”
“Antoine, apologize to the Princess at once!”
“My apologies, Princess Jennifer,” Antoine lifted his head, then added, “But I believe the Roon Royal Family might need to learn how to better manage their servants.”
‘He’s not a servant…’ Jennifer instinctively wanted to argue but held back.
A servant speaking out of turn is one thing, but a distant relation with royal blood speaking out of turn is clearly more suspicious.
“Antoine!” Com frowned slightly and reproached him once again before turning to Jennifer.
Her face was pale, her eyes sowhat terrified, appearing to be just an ordinary girl frightened by the event.
“Once again, I apologize, your Highness. I will be sure to teach Antoine a good lesson when I return, so I will not trouble you further.”
After Com finished speaking, he led Antoine away. ‘The ti’ was approaching. Beyond Roon Palace, there were many other places they needed to check.
Thirteen-year-old Jennifer sat in the opulent platinum carriage, as warm blood slowly leaked from in front of the carriage into the compartnt behind.
“Uncle Duncan…” Jennifer murmured silently, watching as the blood flowed to the tips of her white-booted feet, then pooling into a dark crimson puddle.
The middle-aged man driving this exclusive carriage was not any servant.
Though only a distant branch on the fringes of the Roon Family, he, too, was a Roon.
And in the Roon Kingdom, a mber of the Roon Family was casually slain like a chicken or duck…
In Jennifer’s short thirteen years of life, she had never seen such a thing… and at this mont, her heart was filled with regret and self-bla.
‘If only I could have been more composed just now, reacted a bit faster, would Uncle Duncan still be alive?’
A damp and sticky sensation ca from the soles of her shoes, the blood having soaked through the side of the shoe. Jennifer, as if waking from a dream, wiped away her tears and silently encouraged herself:
“Be strong, Jennifer. The Family is counting on you to find Sir Colin!”
