Surprisingly, Lin Xiaofei didn't try to resist and followed him close after grabbing the clothes that the female assassin was carrying. Looking at the dark color of the clothes, Lin Xiaofei was glad that the assassin made sure to act the maid part that she was playing to get close to her.
The cold breeze of the night brought shivers on Lin Xiaofei as they walked through the corridor leading towards Qu Xing Xu's room.
The night has been quite eventful, albeit dreadful. First, she encountered pursuers outside and Qu Xing Xu saved her whilst drunk. Then, there was another attempted assassination that led him to save her once again.
Although Qu Xing Xu was probably the cause of these assassinations, Lin Xiaofei had to give him so points for saving her more than twice already. He didn't only save her from the assassination that faced tonight, he already did much more even before the engagent happened.
Staring at his wide back, Lin Xiaofei wondered what kind of burdens he carried on his shoulders and shaped him into soone ruthless. He disappeared from court life and didn't make any moves that could usurp the crown but the royal family was still wary of him.
Emperor Yun might appear cordial and smile in front of others but the envy and fear when he looked at Qu Xing Xu was hard to ignore that Lin Xiaofei couldn't stop asking herself whether he had sothing that makes the crown so fearful of him.
"Why are you staring at like that?" Lin Xiaofei snapped out of her thoughts as she heard him speak.
She didn't notice that she had been staring at him and got caught when he turned around when they were just about to reach the door.
"Nothing." She said.
Denying the fact that she was staring at him would only get her into a disadvantageous position. Qu Xing Xu has a way to twist his every word to his advantage and get under her skin.
Blocking the door, Qu Xing Xu narrowed his eyes. A spark was flashing in it as he said, "You say that but you're still looking at ."
Lin Xiaofei blinked twice and tried to open her mouth to say sothing. But she found it hard to think of what to say or ask him.
Instead, she blurted out what she had been curious about since she stayed in the Qu residence. "Who are you really?" she asked without thinking.
As if ti stopped and the air thinned, the two of them stared at each other. Not breaking their eye contact as the silence stretched between them.
Then, Qu Xing Xu's lips tugged upward as he replied, "Would you like to know?"
"No." She quickly said and walked past him.
What a stupid question. What was she thinking asking him what was his real identity when she was the one who had a doubtful identity. Not only did she borrow soone else's body but also lived their life without permission.
She should have died already but heaven didn't allow her to die. What was the real reason for her second chance in life?
Shaking her head from the disturbing thoughts, Lin Xiaofei walked straight towards the front door when a hand grabbed her forearm and pulled her backward.
A soft thud was heard when her back hit sothing hard and warm.
From behind her, she heard him say, "And where do you think you are going?"
"I'm going back to my room."
"But this is your room too." He replied next to her ear.
Rolling her eyes, Lin Xiaofei tugged her forearm, trying to get him to let go of her but he held onto her tightly.
"Qu Xing Xu, what do you think people will say if I stay here tonight?" She asked patiently after facing him. Her eyes looking straight at him with an arched brow.
"And since when have you cared about what others may think?" He asked in return while staring at her intensely. Qu Xing Xu didn't believe that Lin Xiaofei ever bothered what others thought about her.
Since the ti she started causing trouble and attention, gaining the title as the most problematic young miss in the capital. The last royal banquet, she wore black clothes, a color unsuitable for a lively gathering and punishable once the monarch took notice of it. Lin Xiaofei might be lucky that the royal family didn't take offense but Qu Xing Xu didn't think that she's only lucky to escape unscathed.
She created the perfect scenario to divert everyone's attention from her and made Tianli cave explode and ca out victorious.
Lin Xiaofei was caught off guard with his words. He was right. Since when had she cared what others thought about her?
Besides, wouldn't it be better if she played things dangerously?
With that thought, she told him, "You're right. I don't care about what others think of ." feeling his hand slackening around her elbow, she tugged it away.
And instead of storming out of the room and going back to her own room, Lin Xiaofei went towards his bed.
Like a puppy, Qu Xing Xu followed her with a curious gaze and wondered what ga she was playing this ti. A smile was still on his lips.
However, soon he couldn't smile anymore and his eyes almost didn't believe what he was seeing.
In front of the bed, Lin Xiaofei was undoing her waist sash. Once done, she left the fabric to fall down the ground. And as if she wasn't satisfied, her hands found its way towards her collar and tried to make it fall down her shoulders to leave only her thin inner clothes on.
"W-what are you trying to do?!" Qu Xing Xu asked anxiously and stood next to her as he tried to stop her hands from moving.
"Making myself comfortable." said Lin Xiaofei. She slapped his hands away and let her middle clothes fall beside her waist sash.
And just when she was about to get rid of her inner clothes, Qu Xing Xu snatched her hands away from it, placing her hands in front of his chest as he warned, "Don't. Just don't." He gritted his teeth and closed his eyes to calm his restless heart.
If she continued to get rid of her underclothes and leave only her duduo on her body, Qu Xing Xu may not hold himself back from pouncing on her.
