Daemon watched Arianna walk out of the restaurant, his dark eyes staying on her as she tried to hail a cab.

"So you’re a married man now?" Frederick asked as he quickly claid Arianna’s seat. "What is father going to say about this? You just married an enemy’s daughter?"

"Do I look like I care what he’s going to say?" Daemon questioned, his gaze reluctantly leaving Arianna’s back. "He’s the one who’s been pestering to get married these past few years, and I finally did."

"But—"

"There are no buts. If he doesn’t like the fact that I finally listened to him for once, then he might as well forget it."

Frederick’s lips instantly turned into a thin line.

"But what if he tries sothing?" He asked hesitantly, his hands rubbing against each other as if pondering if he should continue with his words. "What if he harms her?"

The air imdiately shifted.

Their father had already threatened to harm Arianna when he found out that Daemon was visiting her at the hospital. Frederick couldn’t imagine what their father would do if he found out that Daemon had married the daughter of their enemy.

"He wouldn’t dare."

There was so much unsaid in those three words and neither of them was good.

Frederick sighed.

Even though he wasn’t the one who’d just married an enemy’s daughter, he still felt stuck on the whole thing.

"You know, I really want to understand why you’re doing all of these—signing a marriage contract with the daughter that killed our mother and caused our father pain. I really want to, Daemon and I hope you know what you’re doing," Frederick said, his expression calm for a second before it shifted to sothing else. Also, it is as if keeping such a soft character was an abomination to him.

Daemon sighed.

He completely understood where Frederick was coming from. From other people’s perspective, they would think he’d gone crazy by making Arianna a part of his family.

However, he wasn’t crazy. At least not in the sense they would think if they found out about his marriage.

He glanced back at Arianna who was still trying to hail a cab when Daemon suddenly noticed sothing. No. More like soone. A man who was standing next to Arianna, at least fifteen feet away.

The distance wasn’t a problem. Most people wouldn’t be suspicious of the other person because of that kind of distance. Still, Daemon’s eyes narrowed when he saw the man in the hoodie that covered his face and blue jeans that looked so worn out inch closer and closer to Arianna who was on a phone call, both his hands in his pockets.

Daemon quickly jumped out of his seat and ran out of the restaurant, heading for Arianna and the so-called pickpocket.

Then he saw it, a knife, more like a dagger peeking out from the man’s pockets as he pulled it out and aid it at Arianna’s rib.

She finally noticed the man and tried to evade the attack. Unfortunately for her, he’d gotten too close. Too close she hadn’t noticed him and now, she was going to get stabbed.

Then all of a sudden, she felt a large arm pulling her, then a large body shielded hers, taking the hit.

Arianna heard Daemon grunt in pain but he continued to hold her tightly, not daring to let her go.

She looked down, only to find blood dripping out of his staining his suit, then her dress while so dripped to the floor.

"Daemon," she called but his face had already gone pale.

"Asshole! Why did you have to interrupt?" The attacker questioned, hissing in annoyance before he tried to make another attempt on her.

Unfortunately for him, this ti, she reacted fast. Since Daemon was still holding her, she had to work with her feet driving her knees in between his legs, making a sharp impact with his groin.

He fell to the hard ground as he gripped his groin while blood rushed to his face.

She tried to kick him again, but this ti, soone else intervened.

She recognized him. He was the sa man she’d seen with Daemon earlier, his younger brother, Frederick Langford.

He punched the man across the face so hard that two of his teeth flew out of his mouth in retirent, blood staining his lips.

People watched the scene, so recording while others placed their phones over their ears, making a phone call, probably trying to co in contact with the police.

"We have to take him to the hospital. He’s bleeding so much," said Arianna when she noticed that Frederick didn’t care that they were in public as he delivered punches to the attacker one after the other.

Frederick’s head spun to Daemon who had gone even paler than the last minute.

Frederick cursed before he took Daemon from her and took him to the car.

Thinking he would get into the driver’s seat so they would head for the hospital already, Frederick turned, heading back to the attacker. With one quick punch, he knocked the man unconscious, lifted his body, and dropped him in the back of the car.

The pedestrians all gasped in shock, wondering if that could be considered kidnapping.

Then Frederick got into the car and drove off while Arianna reached into her purse and retrieved a napkin she always carried with her.

Then she pressed the soft fabric against Daemon’s stomach, right when he’d been stabbed, hoping to stop the bleeding before they reached the hospital.

Half an hour later, they reached the hospital.

Frederick yelled out for the nurses who quickly brought out a stretcher and took him away to be operated on.

Neither she nor Frederick was allowed inside, leaving them to stand outside to wait.

Arianna stared at her dress that was stained red with Daemon’s blood from earlier.

He’d just saved her from getting killed once again, and this ti, he’d put his life on the line without thinking.

Her heart thumped hard against her chest, fear gripping her.
