Lucy didn’t think that Kai would ever betray Landon. n are like that. They’d trust and stay loyal to their best buddies, even to the point of abandoning their lovers. Only a few couples of n would risk friendship for a woman.

Kai probably didn’t expect her reply, as his expression looked like he had just been whiplashed. Given the nature of things, she betted that he didn’t know enough. Most especially, what screwed ups Landon did that ended their marriage in divorce.

But Lucy was too busy and tired to care whether he knew a thing or two.

Fortunately, the elevator’s tily stop with a crisp ’ding’ rang loudly, giving her a quick escape from Kai’s curiosity.

Stepping on the landing, Lucy turned to him and said as the door slid close, "Let’s hope we don’t ever see again."

I will pray to God tonight that I won’t see your mug ever again.

Naturally, she didn’t include Landon in her prayers. That would’ve been a waste of her efforts to plan her return and revenge carefully. Eventually, they had to et. And it should be grand.

Kai glared at her, his intent obvious in his eyes. He could chase after her and drag her sowhere to take out the answers to his questions, but he didn’t do it.

Finally, ridding off the hound of her ex-husband, Lucy made her way to the hallway.

The door spread out sporadically, but evenly. Each wall had doors facing each other. Lucy stopped in front of the door indicated in her keycard and punched it into the sensor. Half a second later, a smooth ringtone sounded, and the door parted slightly.

Lucy walked in with a calm face and gracefully entered.

Inside, the room was bright and boasted ’expensive’ in every sense. From the carpet to the drapes to the furniture ticulously arranged in the wide living room, where two considerably sized bedrooms could be built there. Palace Hotel didn’t skimp out on spending their money on making these rooms, it seems.

Lucy found a single-seater sofa to perch on as she silently glanced around. The walls were painted blue with golden accents, resembling Victorian-era walls. The lamps adorning it and a familiar, huge old portrait hanging on the wall. It was one of the few pieces she had painted in the past.

However, the elegance in the room was overwheld by the clothes, packets of condoms, and other things strewn all over the floor.

After taking in her surroundings, Lucy kept to herself again and bowed her head to think. The sound of the shower from the bathroom faintly bounced on the walls.

If Kai were telling the truth, Landon would be in the sa place as she was right now. Just the thought of seeing him face-to-face filled her with icy rage. Her shoulders tensed, her spine tingled, and her chest felt heavy.

If she had a choice, she would pack her things and never return. She never wanted to see Landon again.

But the thought of her deceased son being ripped out of her womb to save her life while the people who made her life miserable had a peaceful one made her rethink her indecision.

The bathroom door clicked open. A man walked out only in his bathrobe, a towel in his hand rubbing on his wet hair. He stood tall and lean; even without his usual business suit, he could make a woman swoon in no ti.

"You’re here?" the man noticed her finally. The hand carelessly rubbing his hair dry dropped to his side.

He walked over with a languid gait.

Lucy glanced up and nodded. "I only had ti to go out tonight."

A lie. She could et him anyti, but she didn’t want to bother. Honestly, she didn’t want to even co close to him.

Mr. Donovan was a client.

But she needed him for another reason.

The man sat across from her, crossing his long legs and slinging one arm on the back of the couch. His other hand grabbed the wineglass and took a huge sip, drinking it like water.

If soone else were in the room, they’d be shocked to see the famous actor of the year, Percy Donovan. Since his debut, he had made up a humble and gentlemanly persona that stole thousands of innocent hearts. But right now, he shed that mask and tossed it far away.

Lucy stared at him in silence, waiting for him to finish drinking. Noticing her gaze on his wine, Percy smirked and asked, "Forgive my manners. Do you want to pour you so?"

She shook her head.

Since her surgery, Lucy had already ridden off any liquor. She didn’t want to take a risk.

"That’s too bad." Percy’s mouth pointed outward. "This wine was hidden in the storage for 30 years. A glass would fetch about 3 grand."

"Percy."

Lucy was on edge that night.

Percy raised an eyebrow. He paused as he narrowed his eyes. Then he said, "Ah, right. You’re here for the invitation card."

He stood up, the bathrobe parting slightly as he moved, glimpsing his well-toned thighs. Crossing the room, he disappeared behind a door, which led to the master’s bedroom. He erged after half a minute and walked back.

Lucy watched as he walked toward her and held up a dark envelope pinched between his fingers, the center sealed with golden wax. She already knew what was inside it, so she wasn’t in a hurry.

"I was going to refuse and not take the card, but you called right in ti. Where’s my thanks?" Percy smiled at her.

"Thanks."

Lucy briefly thanked him.

She made a move to retrieve it from his hands, but the envelope slipped before she could touch it.

Lucy frowned as a finger touched her chin, forcing her to look up at him.

The man leaned down, his face close to hers, as he spoke sensuously, "I don’t need verbal gratitude, Lucy. If you want to thank , there’s a simple way to do it."

The finger under her chin moved, as if stroking a cat’s fur while the owner expected it to purr. Lucy doesn’t purr.

Glaring at him, she slapped his hand away from her face.

Percy’s face blood with hurt, but he didn’t give up.

"Sleep with ."
