Landon knew he could trust his mory, and he knew his wife very well. Or at least, what she looked like before she disappeared.
But after the incident at the café earlier, he wasn’t so sure anymore.
Could it have been really a mistake? Was he seeing illusions to make up for the guilt and conscience he was feeling from letting Lucy go without even letting his feelings known?
Landon was contemplating for a long ti. His attention was elsewhere, to his wife, while he was inside an important eting with the executives and managers of the company seated at the long table.
"Mr. President, is this project not to your liking?"
At the other end of the long table, a man in a white button-up shirt and blue pants stood with his eyes focused on Landon. His hands trembled as he poised his question, hoping that wasn’t the case because he and his team had worked on this project for months.
Contrary to the man’s thoughts, Landon has not paid attention to what is being said in the eting this whole ti.
And now that his full attention was needed, Landon sighed.
He looked at the screen beside the man, who had just presented the project, and the papers in front of him. He could get the gist of it just from reading the words on the front page.
This eting was to get his approval on a few major projects and get the funds for them. This man had just finished discussing the pros and cons of the project of an aquarium and amusent park being built near the newly built Southwest Branch, where a supermall was also being planned to be constructed right across it.
Landon flipped the pages while saying, "How much budget do you need for this project?"
The man saw hope in front of him, and he grasped it. "It’s 650 million dollars, sir!"
A re 650 million dollars was not enough to make a crack into Landon’s wealth, but it was indeed a huge amount of money.
After hearing the funds that they needed for the project to proceed, the eting room was bustling as the executive directors and managers from another departnt started to whisper among themselves.
One of them even stepped up to speak against it.
"There’s no need to approve of such a useless project. The president should invest in another project."
"That’s right. The Southwest branch is dedicated to the employees of the Westwood Group’s use; why should there be an amusent park close to it? An aquarium will only make it impossible for the workers to focus on their job!"
"But a supermall is currently being built in front. Once it’s completed, the city’s people will definitely make it a hot spot to shop and spend ti. An amusent park and aquarium will also boost the tourism in our city.
The two opposing teams continue rallying their judgnt on what should be done to the project.
But they knew that the final decision was up to Landon.
They were in a bottleneck since neither side wanted to give up. So, they turned to Landon to wait for his answer.
They saw the man sitting at the head of the long table, staring in a daze. His hand rapped gently on the surface of the table.
Tap, tap.
As soon as this tapping noise was heard, the silence that ensued inside the room was too loud. If there was a wind, it would howl. And even breathing seed harsh.
The n inside the eting room were like the scholars in the emperor’s court. They were divided into two sides, maybe even more. But they ultimately listened to the emperor’s orders with extre obedience and were terrified of feeling the knife fall to their necks.
Landon thought it was interesting to see them like this.
They weren’t like this at the beginning. No, they were very opposed to him taking the position after his grandfather stepped down. They wanted Dominik, his uncle, to sit there instead.
And Landon used to go along the flow.
Until he bared his claws and fangs at the LeBlanc family. Many tried to take him down after that. But Landon took it as a chance to show what he could do through the huge LeBlanc family that his grandfather even had to show fear and respect.
Now, the LeBlanc family couldn’t even raise their faces to look at him. They don’t even dare hope they could mingle with the Westwood family and their world.
Then, as soon as he proved he wasn’t a little cub with no fangs, the executive leaders and board directors turned around and sang a different tune. All praised Landon and admonished his uncle.
Landon didn’t see any need to waste money and ti to build an amusent park and aquarium. The city already had one of each. But he couldn’t help but have another thought.
What if he and Lucy had children in the future? Wouldn’t it be nice to give them a place to play and show off to their friends?
At that thought, despite it being impossible to happen since his wife was not by his side, Landon was greatly tempted.
In the end, he approved the project without hesitation.
He should et with the painter he found to extend their services later.
After leaving the eting room and sitting inside his office, Landon massaged his temples and closed his eyes.
A petite figure soon appeared with hair fluttering with the wind, bringing the scent of Lucy to him. His five senses could still rember her face, skin, and scent. Her warmth comforted and drove away all his pain and stress like no other. And just a smile from her was enough to give him the best dicine in the world.
But all of that was gone after Lucy disappeared.
He was all left trying to comfort his pain by rembering what was left of her in his mind.
However, it will never be enough for him.
He needed the real Lucy by his side, not just an image he conjured up through imagination.
As the pain continued to throb through his head, his phone notified him of a new ssage.
Landon dejectedly unlocked his phone and saw it co from his best friend, Kai Denvers.
[Co to ’Palace Hotel’ at 8 p.m. I reserved a spot in our usual place.]
Landon was about to tell him he had no ti when a second ssage arrived.
[I need to ask you sothing about your wife, Lucy.]
