At the sa ti...

"So, Haji... what do you think? Should I join hands with them?"

Haji blinked, trying to process what in the world was happening. He couldn’t even focus on what Vito had just said because his brain had stalled long before that part.

"Wait." He raised his head and pinched the bridge of his nose. "Wait—motherfuc—shut up for a second!"

Vito raised his brows and lifted his hands in surrender, leaning back in his chair. "Take your ti. I still have an hour before soone puts a hole in my head."

Haji ignored him, focusing on one critical detail—important to him, but apparently not to Vito.

"What do you an they got Amala and Silo?" he asked, snapping his attention back to the man.

"I said what I said." Vito shrugged. "So people took them hostage."

"By so people, you an... Farah?"

Vito nodded, looking confused, as though he didn’t understand why Haji was surprised.

"And why would Farah do that?" Haji hissed. Of course, he knew Farah. She was a friend, though he wasn’t as close to that cougar as he was to Amala or Lola.

Back then, there was no reason for him to befriend soone like her. Farah was Vito’s friend and business partner. But Haji knew better than anyone that alliances in the underworld were as fragile as porcelain. One mishandling, and they shattered.

And Vito? He was the last person anyone should trust.

Haji’s eyes glinted as he stared at the man across from him, who was acting overly innocent. "What the fuck did you do?"

"? I do a lot of things, Haji!"

CLANG!

Haji shot to his feet, the table between them scraping loudly as bottles toppled over. He glared at Vito, teeth grinding.

"What the fuck did you do?" he repeated, his voice dropping into sothing dangerous. "Vito, you’re not my fucking boss anymore. I don’t care if I don’t make it out of this room—as long as I kill you first."

He had endured enough under Vito’s insanity. The man had made the outside world hell for him after he escaped Ravah. Not that Haji cried over spilled milk, but Vito didn’t scare him anymore.

"I may still be a dog in your eyes, but this dog will fucking maul your face—I promise you," he warned, aning every word. "What did you do that put Amala and Silo in danger?"

Vito’s expression twisted slightly, though he remained relaxed despite the threats. After a mont, he picked up his bottle and unscrewed the cap.

"Farah pissed off," he said simply. "So I stole her business."

Haji frowned. "Stole her business?"

"She had this operation in Ravah—an interesting one," Vito drawled. "But it was hard to get my foot in the door since she was gatekeeping it."

He shot Haji a look, holding the open bottle loosely. "So I sent Looney to get the blueprints. I figured if I had leverage, the people running it would welco with open arms. My plan was perfect—get the blueprints, return them like a knight in shining armor..."

"Or keep them and take over Ravah myself!" he added enthusiastically. "Knowing the underground tunnels and routes? That’s a huge advantage. Sadly, my dear Looney bear blew it all up in smoke."

He made a small explosion gesture with his fingers. "Good thing she made up for it by bringing trade route intel and a few juicy secrets."

"Thanks to that, I managed to worm my way into Ravah by telling that fucking Jarvis about his pathetic excuse of a son," Vito continued, taking a swig. "I didn’t realize that once you’re inside Ravah, it’s easy to dig into everything. Eventually, I found out exactly where that bitch Farah was operating."

He smiled faintly. "I put a bullet in the governor’s head. Massacred his people too. Ravah’s a joke—it’s that easy to take over, and no one even knows their beloved governor is rotting in his bedroom."

"What?" Haji breathed, disbelief flooding his voice as he connected the dots to what they’d uncovered in Ravah.

"Right. Farah wasn’t there when I attacked, so it was easy. She took her best n with her and left the trainees behind," Vito said casually. "When she ca back, I almost got her. Almost. But she escaped—fuck! Irritating as hell."

For a mont, genuine irritation flickered across his face. "Lucky whore."

Then, just as quickly, his expression smoothed out again.

"So that’s that," Vito said lightly. "I screwed her over, now she’s screwing over. She thinks using Amala and that Silo—whatever the hell he is—will make crawl."

He paused, his face souring. "Not . But Looney might. That fickle girl."

Vito was reckless and crude, but not stupid. He knew Farah’s ga. She understood him well enough to know that if soone were used against him, he wouldn’t hesitate to kill them himself.

But not Lola.

Farah couldn’t get to Lola, so she chose the next best targets. Taking Amala and Silo wouldn’t move Vito an inch.

But Lola? She would follow every demand.

He clicked his tongue. "Why does she have to be involved? Damn it. This would be less complicated otherwise."

Vito exhaled deeply and looked up at Haji, who still seed shaken.

"Why the fuck would you do all that?" Haji demanded. "Weren’t you and Farah good?"

"We were. Until we weren’t." Vito shrugged. "She crossed first. And I’d be damned if I let that slide. No one sses with Vito. I screw them back tenfold."

Haji didn’t doubt that for a second. That was exactly how Vito operated.

"The thing is..." Vito rubbed his chin thoughtfully. "A while ago, Farah wanted peace."

"Then maybe you should’ve left her the fuck alone!"

Vito blinked. "Actually, you should bla Looney’s husband."

"Huh?"

"These people started showing up right after that guy ca to see ," Vito clarified. "Even Farah’s tone shifted after Atlas Bennet t . Interesting, right?"

He smiled slowly.

"What I’m saying is... the secret society. That’s interesting."
