[Lola]
Lola and her newly ford team quietly made their way to the town where the execution was going to happen. aning, the main town, which was also the most dangerous place for all of them.
After all, that town, or rather, city, was where the governor resided.
Since they were on the run, the boss decided to take every detour he could to avoid whoever was coming after them. Thankfully, he knew this place better than anyone. But then again, it made him wonder if this was the very reason Lola had roped them into whatever suicide mission she had planned.
The detours kept them safe and undetected, but they also made their travel ti longer.
"I’m bored," Lola mumbled, lting into the corner of the truck behind the boss. "Boss, can’t you drive faster??"
The boss hissed, glaring at her through the rearview mirror. "Chosen One, I know you are blessed and probably gifted with nine lives. But not everyone is just as lucky as you or has as many lives to waste as you!"
The lackey’s eyes lit up, nodding proudly at his boss. The latter, after all, seed like he was finally regaining his lost confidence.
"What did you say?" Lola arched a brow.
And that was all it took for the boss’s confidence to disappear like smoke.
"Heh." The boss shrank a little and smiled at her brightly. "What I’m saying is, Boss, you entrusted with your life, and I’d rather die than disappoint you. I’m going to take this truck safely to the main city so you and your friends can wreak havoc as much as you want!"
Hearing this, the lackey scrunched up his nose. He narrowed his eyes at his boss, starting to wonder whether their boss had always been this pathetic. After all, this wasn’t the boss he used to look up to.
But then again, Lola was of a different caliber.
This woman had made an enemy of the entire Ravah and ca out of the territory alive.
The lackey shrugged indifferently, deciding that comparing his boss to the Chosen One didn’t count.
Lola rocked her head in satisfaction while the Bellemonte captives watched quietly.
"Where did you get these guys?" one of them couldn’t help but ask, partly amused and partly confused.
Lola smirked at them. "There are plenty like them in Ravah... as long as you have an eye for talent."
You an eyes for cowardice? And fake bravado?
"When I saw these guys, I just had this clarity in my head," she continued, casually wasting ti as she looked at them. "I was like, these two look like geniuses!"
The lackey blushed and grinned, scratching the back of his head. "Really? You thought I was a genius?"
Everyone else deadpanned. Even the boss cringed, despite already knowing that the lackey they had picked up was the dumbest in the group.
"Heh," Lola smirked, giving the Bellemonte n an arrogant look, as if this was sothing she should be proud of. All they could do in response was shake their heads.
Then, she stretched one leg and tapped the lackey’s knee.
"Hey, Lackey. Know any places where we could buy a slice of pizza?"
"Pizza?" the n repeated in disbelief. "You want pizza in this situation?"
"Goddess, what do you think we’re doing right now?!" the boss gasped. "How can you think of eating pizza right now?! You’re not going on a trip! We are taking a route straight to hell!"
A second later, he caught himself catching an attitude and cleared his throat, forcing a smile.
"What I an is, Goddess — Boss — greatest of all," he corrected hastily, both his words and his tone. "There isn’t a pizza parlor anywhere around here. But, don’t forget there are guys who might be speeding through everything just to catch up to us!"
Sure, they were safe for now — safe enough that things had beco boring. But that boredom was sothing they’d take any day, because it ant they were still alive.
Lola puffed her cheek. "I’m hungry, though."
It had been a full day since she’d eaten a proper al. They had eaten on the trip, but with the mood and everything else, she hadn’t had much of an appetite. Now, with nothing happening, the hunger caught up with her.
Her stomach dilemma, however, vanished when a familiar voice suddenly ca through her earpiece.
"Madam."
Lola froze.
Her eyes dilated, her body going stiff like a mannequin.
Seeing her reaction, the others furrowed their brows, staring at her as if she’d just seen a ghost.
"Goddess... are you okay?" the lackey asked carefully. "Did you see... a ghost?"
He quickly glanced around, gulping. The road they were on was dark and silent. Well, it was a ghost town, after all.
"Izu?" Lola finally spoke, narrowing her eyes as she pressed her palm against the earpiece. "Is that you?"
"Madam!!" Pika’s voice nearly broke through the comms. He imdiately covered his mouth, lowering his voice. "Madam, I was so worried about you!"
"Oh."
"Madam, yes — it’s us," Izu added, letting out a breath of relief. "Are you alright? Did anything happen?"
"I’m fine," she said calmly. "Don’t worry about . What about you? Did you get to Gigante and find the frog?"
"Yes," Izu replied. "We t the frog. And we found two n she kept in her ho."
"Two?" Lola frowned, glancing at the Bellemonte captives.
The two n frowned back, equally curious.
"Yes. They were injured — badly," Izu continued. "They’re most likely the first two who were assud dead in the initial report. They were still alive, barely. Ransom and Florida stayed behind to treat them and buy them ti. Transporting them in that condition would’ve killed them."
Lola leaned back, nodding. "I see. Good work, Izu."
"Madam, where are you now?" he asked. "Pika and I can head to you if things are calm in Gigante."
Pika visibly stiffened beside him. "What did you just say?"
"Don’t worry about ," Lola replied smoothly. "I already found the other two Bellemonte n."
"What?!" Pika and Izu exclaid at the sa ti.
She already found two of them? This fast?!
Lola winced, adjusting the volu of her earpiece. "They’re fine. We’re fine. I also picked up two geniuses along the way, so there’s really no need to panic."
She paused, then continued, "You said Ransom and Florida stayed behind. Where are you now?"
Izu explained their decision, and Lola listened quietly, her expression sharpening as he spoke.
"Izu," she interrupted. "Go back to Gigante—"
But before she could finish, another voice cut through the comms.
"Izu?" Florida’s voice ca through urgently. "People are headed this way. Our location’s been compromised!"
