"I’m sorry, my grandmother is in the hospital, and I might not make it tonight." I looked at the paynt slip in my hand as I walked towards the ward, my tone low.

Upon hearing this, Daniel Carter imdiately asked with concern, "Is it serious? Do you need to find a doctor?"

"Not for now, the doctor said it’s a myocardial infarction and suggested thrombolytic therapy first."

"Which hospital?"

I hesitated in my heart, but after a pause, I answered, "Provincial Central Hospital."

"Okay, you handle it first, and we can contact each other if anything cos up."

"Mm."

After hanging up, I returned to the ward.

Grandma was just settled in and had woken up, with doctors and nurses conducting further tests.

I stood quietly on the side, listening to her still able to answer the doctor’s questions, which indicated she was conscious, and the tension in my heart eased slightly.

As dusk fell, it quickly turned pitch black.

The ward was quiet, with grandma receiving an IV drip, drowsily falling asleep.

Aunt walked over to and softly urged, "Lily, you should go back; you have work tomorrow."

I frowned, "Auntie, let stay the night with her; you go back."

I thought about how my aunt was getting older, and staying up would be hard on her.

But she insisted I go back, saying she hired a caregiver, so it would be fine.

Thinking we could take turns, one night each, I ordered her dinner and left first.

But when you’re unlucky, even drinking cold water can get sothing stuck between your teeth.

Upon reaching the parking lot, my car wouldn’t start.

This electric car had been running fine for over three years, and this was the first issue.

Frustrated, I was about to call the dealership when my phone rang.

Seeing "Daniel Carter" flash on the screen, I inexplicably felt a sense of relief, like having a dependable support.

"Hello..."

"Are you still at the hospital?" Daniel directly asked.

"Yes, just about to leave, what’s up?"

"I just arrived at the hospital, where are you, in-patient departnt or parking lot?"

Daniel ca to the hospital?

Holding the phone, I instinctively looked around and imdiately spotted the conspicuous license plate on a black Audi.

A smile tugged at the corners of my mouth, and I waved to the vehicle, "I see you."

"Mm, I see you too."

Putting down the phone, I waited for his car to drive over.

The Audi stopped steadily, and Daniel got out from the back seat.

It had gotten much colder today, and now that it was dark, the temperature was dropping below freezing, with the wind cutting like a knife.

But seeing him stride towards , I suddenly felt that biting coldness being blocked away.

"What brought you here?" I asked, shivering from the cold, curious.

Daniel wore an overcoat, standing tall and exuding a strong presence, he slightly frowned upon hearing this, "I was worried you couldn’t handle it alone, so I ca to have a look."

I smiled and explained, "I’m not alone, my aunt is also here. She’s staying with her tonight, so I should head back first."

Daniel nodded, "Good, it’s better to have soone there."

Warmth spread in my heart because no man had ever been this attentive to , rembering even the slightest thing and expressing concern through actions.

Adrian Gordon had been with for years and never showed such detailed care, instead, I was often the caregiver.

I admit I’m quite starved for love, and Daniel’s warmth indeed touched at that mont, prompting to ask, "You haven’t eaten yet, have you? I’m starving..."

He smirked and asked, "What would you like to eat?"

"You decide, I’m okay with anything."

He pondered and said, "Then let’s have hotpot, the seafood hotpot you and your colleague went to last ti."

Surprised, I looked at him, raising my eyebrows.

He still rembered that?

Could he actually be jealous?

Seeing my reaction, he seed to read my thoughts and smiled with a hint of wicked amusent, "Yes, I rember how you sang praises about that person."

"..." My cheeks reddened, and my gaze shifted away.

He didn’t tease further but glanced at my car and asked, "Whose car should we take? I’m fine with either."

Hearing this, I suddenly rembered the urgent matter and quickly said, "Well... My car—"

Feeling embarrassed, I turned back, explaining, "My car broke down and won’t start. I was about to contact the dealership when you called."

Daniel raised his eyebrows in surprise, then chuckled, "What a coincidence? Seems I showed up just in ti."

I didn’t say anything, thinking that was indeed the case.

He turned to wave his hand, and the driver from the Audi promptly ca down.

"Miss Miller’s car broke down, please handle it."

After giving instructions, Daniel nodded towards my chin, "Hand over your car keys to him."

I hesitated, "Isn’t that too much trouble..."

"Miss Miller, it’s no trouble. I’ll just wait for the dealership to arrive."

The young man extended his hand, and I reluctantly handed over the keys.

"Let’s go, get in the car, your nose is running from the cold." Daniel wrapped his arm around my shoulder, leading towards his car.

My heart skipped a beat, and I turned to look at his hand on my shoulder, well-defined and slender, a pair of beautiful hands.

Feeling a spreading warmth, I regained my composure, wiping my nose and peeking up at him, "I’m not running a nose."

He looked down at , chuckling, "Silly, you believe everything I say."

Realizing I was once again teased, I glanced sideways without a word.

His car was still running the engine, and as soon as I got in, it felt as warm as spring, and I relaxed instantly.

Daniel fastened his seatbelt and asked for the address of the hotpot place.

I input the destination into the GPS and confird, frowning, "There’s traffic now; it’ll take 40 minutes to get there. Should we find sothing closer?"

Daniel glanced at the GPS, swung the steering wheel, and the car drove off smoothly.

"No need, we’ll go there."

"..." I looked at him and seed to instantly understand his insistence.

Was it because I went here with a male colleague before, that he insisted we go too?

I remained silent and let him decide.

As the Audi drove so distance, he suddenly rembered sothing, "By the way, I’ve talked to the hospital’s director here, they should look into your grandmother’s condition further."

What?

I was taken aback, turning to him once more, feeling touched again, not knowing how to respond.

Daniel glanced back at , saying coolly and gently, "Just a small effort, no need to thank ."

I swallowed once, the words I carefully considered last night now difficult to utter again.

He was so kind and considerate, leaving no reasons to refuse or push him away.

"Let treat dinner tonight." It’s the only way I could express my feeling.

"Sure."

Just then, my phone rang, and I saw it was a call from my aunt.

"Lily, did you use so connections? Now there are several people in white coats, all leaders of the hospital, along with the chief physician. After examining your grandma, they said they would have a consultation eting tomorrow..." My aunt sounded a bit shocked and slightly solemn.

I glanced at Daniel and replied to my aunt, "Yes, a friend helped by talking to the hospital, it’s fine, don’t worry."

"Oh, I see, well, make sure you thank them properly."

"Got it."

After ending the call, Daniel focused on driving calmly, his handso side profile showing a slight smile, asking, "Just a friend? No word in front?"
