What, Adrian Gordon is done?

Wasn’t he full of spirit at the school anniversary yesterday, pestering ?

Suddenly he’s not okay?

After the shock, I regained my composure and thought that even if he died, it had nothing to do with , so I calmly replied, "I’m not a doctor, how can I save him? Besides, we’re divorced and have nothing to do with each other anymore."

"Lily Miller, you can save him. He needs a blood transfusion now, and there’s not enough RH-negative blood in the blood bank. Even if we find soone else, it will be too late. Only you... you can save him!" Olivia Gray’s attitude changed dramatically from last night’s tirade, her words both agitated and humble.

But my heart felt cold.

Their attitude changed only because they realized I was useful again, treating as a blood machine.

"Since your family produced him, naturally there should be others with the sa blood type, no need to beg ."

"Adrian’s father and aunt already donated blood a few days ago, they can’t anymore... If I had another way, why would I co to you?"

They already donated blood?

I realized that on the day of the court case, when Adrian fainted and was taken away, things must have already been quite bad.

But if that’s the case, why did he continue drinking?

"Is his illness recurring?" I asked seriously.

Olivia choked up, "Yes..."

I sneered, "In that case, I have even less reason to save him. Knowing how bad his health is, he still drinks repeatedly, even getting drunk—since he seeks death, I’ll grant it."

"Lily Miller, how can you say that? Why did he go drinking, wasn’t it because you insisted on the divorce? He made mistakes, but he knelt to apologize to you, and you wouldn’t relent, aren’t you pushing him to his death?"

Olivia harshly accused , her begging earlier completely gone, starting to lay charges on .

But these twisted words made laugh in anger, "According to your logic, since I’m pushing him to his death, why should I draw my precious blood to save him? Do you think I’m as crazy as you? ntally ill?"

"Lily Miller, how can you—"

"I’m busy, don’t bother again."

I cut off Olivia’s accusations and swiftly hung up the phone.

Being disturbed by such bad luck early in the morning, I couldn’t fall back asleep, so I got up.

After washing up and driving to the company, my phone chid, and I thought it was still the Gordon family bothering , but when I picked up the phone, a smile instantly appeared on my lips.

[Morning.]

Just one short word, and my vexed, gloomy heart suddenly brightened up.

It was Daniel Carter’s morning greeting.

The traffic light turned red at the right ti, and I picked up my phone, staring at his WeChat, with the scene from last night’s car ride replaying in my mind.

Is he officially pursuing ?

Or does he want to take a soft approach, gradually winning over?

After pondering for a mont, I reservedly replied with just one word.

[Morning.]

I put my phone down, but the smile on my lips lingered.

The phone rang again, but the light turned green, and I had to drive, so I held back from checking.

But inside, I couldn’t help but imagine—after I replied with one word and disappeared, is he waiting, anxious, thinking I suddenly ignored him?

On second thought, surely not.

He’s such a mature, steady man, not a love-obsessed person, how could he waste his precious ti on a woman?

But I was wrong.

The phone chid two more tis in quick succession.

I couldn’t resist, looking forward to the next red light.

But heaven was playing against ; I luckily passed four green lights in a row, just when I hoped the next one was red, the phone rang—

The car’s screen showed the caller ID, unsurprisingly, it was Daniel Carter calling.

Joy filled my heart, adrenaline rushing instantly to my head.

"Hello, what’s up..." I wasn’t sure what got into , my voice ca out a bit husky and playfully coy.

Daniel Carter responded as calm and gentle as always, "Have you gotten up? Why did you vanish after one word?"

"Driving, rush hour traffic is heavy, no ti to look at my phone."

"Oh."

The smile on my face was unstoppable, hearing his obedient reply, my mind flashed again to last night in the car, him holding in the backseat, looking so frail it needed care.

Seeing him silent, I asked proactively, "What do you want so early in the morning?"

"Nothing, just wanted to tell you I slept well last night and I’m fine today, didn’t want you to worry, so I thought I’d let you know."

I was startled, this...

We aren’t in any kind of relationship, he doesn’t need to report this, does he?

My cheeks heated up, tongue tied for a mont, and sowhat involuntarily, I added a trace of teasing complaint, "Who was worried about you? You sure know how to give yourself credit."

"Really?"

"Of course not, got up early, rushed to work, very busy."

"..." Silence from the other side.

The smile on my face stiffened, feeling maybe those words were too harsh.

I regretted it and quickly added, "Well... I’m glad you’re okay, but still take care in the future, don’t overwork. Even if I’m not worried, Mrs. Carter and lissa would be."

After saying this, I was annoyed—this addition was rather forced.

Daniel Carter chuckled lightly, "A coward, last night you responded, and today you’re pretending to have amnesia?"

"..." Now it was my turn to be silent, keeping my mouth shut.

"Lily Miller, if there’s a hundred-step distance between us, I’m willing to take ninety-nine steps, can’t you muster the courage to take the remaining one?"

Daniel Carter was so direct, seeing silent, he didn’t let it go, spelling it out even clearer.

My mind was buzzing, all resistance crumbling instantly.

Distracted, even driving beca absentminded, suddenly honked from behind brought back, quickly saying, "Um... I’m driving, let’s talk later."

Daniel Carter probably worried I might have an accident, gently replied, "Okay, focus on driving first."

After hanging up, I imdiately rolled down the window, letting the cold wind in to clear my head.

Daniel Carter was sowhat "unreasonable," claiming verbally he would wait for , however long it takes—but in action, he’s pressing forward, not giving ti to adjust.

Honestly, I don’t know how long the wall I painstakingly built inside can hold.

At the company, I forced myself to focus on work.

Yet, the day’s unrest was determined from the morning.

Around ten o’clock, Cherry suddenly burst into my studio, "Ms. Lily, your stepmother is here again and she hurt President Yance!"

My face fell, dropping the needles in hand, imdiately following her downstairs.

Before reaching the eting room, I heard Shirley Turner’s shrew-like curses, "Where’s Lily Miller? Get her out here to see ! Or none of you will have an easy ti!"

I pushed open the door, perhaps my expression too severe, employees imdiately stepped back upon seeing , "President Miller."

With a steady gaze, I saw Calvin Yance sitting at the conference table, painfully clutching his forehead, a bloody disinfectant wipe evident.
