Teagan

I WAS SITTING on the sofa in the great room, chatting with Dani when her face suddenly dropped. "Uh oh."

"What’s wrong?" I asked, turning my head in the direction she was looking.

Cash looked pissed and he was storming toward us. "Need you to co with ."

"That tone better not be for ," I warned.

"Teagan—"

"Cash, seriously, I’m in no mood to deal with your shit," I bit out. "Take it down a notch. Actually, take it down twelve."

Dani tried to hide a smile behind her hand as she dropped her head and took a sip of wine.

"I’m sorry." Cash sighed. "Just need to talk to you for a second."

"That’s better." I set my glass on the table and stood. "I go where you go."

He took my hand and led down the hall and into the bunkroom, closing the door behind us.

"What’s going on, honey? You look like you’re about to remove a spleen." I crossed my arms. "Which is my job. You know, ye olde spleen removal departnt."

He smirked, dragging his hands through his hair.

"Cash, seriously, what’s going on?"

"Apparently, the Spiders are comin’ for us."

I gasped. "What?"

"Hatch and Dad didn’t say that outright, but a Spider was doin’ so shady shit to your car, so it can only an that they’re comin’."

"Okay, what do Hatch and Booker want us to do?"

"Hatch wants us here, or Dad said we can stay with them."

"Wait. You can’t go ho?"

"No. It’s not safe," he said. "Archer and I need to bunk down here for a while."

"Okay, so my options are to stay here with you, or at your parents, or be at ho, right?"

"Yeah."

"You can be at all those places, too."

He scoffed. "No way in hell Mack’s gonna let sleep in your bed, Turtle."

"Oh, right." I wrinkled my nose. "You might have a point."

"But you can’t have your car for a while. We don’t know what this asshole did to it, so we’ve gotta pull it apart and inspect it."

I sighed. "So, for work purposes, it would be better to stay here. No commute."

"Yeah."

"But where are we going to sleep?" I asked. "We don’t really have our own space."

"Well, then, Hatch’ll need to sort that out. If he doesn’t, we’ll take advantage of your spleen removal services."

I was done not touching him, so I closed the distance between us. "Okay, now, why are you really so amped?"

"That’s not enough of a reason?"

"Cash, you stord out of that room, tied up in knots. It’s not about keeping safe, because I’m safe and sound right now, right here, and nothing’s going to change. What’s really going on?"

"I don’t fuckin’ know and Hatch and Dad aren’t sharin’. But I can guess."

"Okay, what’s your guess?"

He pald his eye sockets. "That I led them straight to you."

"How’d you do that, exactly?"

"It’s gotta be Justin," he said.

"Hooks?"

He nodded. "I should have been more careful."

"What do Hatch and Booker say?"

"Not much. Which is the problem."

"Do you really think this guy runs with the Spiders?"

"I didn’t, but now I’m not so sure," he admitted.

"Cash, you are the best judge of character I know. If you didn’t think he was affiliated, then he wasn’t." I sighed. "Why do you constantly doubt yourself?"

He let out a quiet grunt, but I didn’t get any further explanation as I slid my arms under his cut and up his back, kissing his chest. "Maybe they’re not entirely sure what the fuck’s going on and don’t want to rile you up. You do tend to overreact on occasion."

"Teagan," he growled.

"Yes, love of my life?"

"Why the fuck are you so calm?"

"Because you’re losing your shit," I said. "Can’t have both of us doing that, especially when there’s no reason to. Not yet, anyway." I t his eyes. "We’re here, we’re safe, we’ve got booze, and each other. What more do we need?"

His mouth landed on mine, and I was gently pushed against the wall as his hand slid under my shirt, tugging down my bra. His tongue slipped between my lips as he rolled a nipple between his fingers and I arched into his touch, moaning into this mouth, gripping his cut as he kissed .

Before we could go any further, however, soone banged on the door.

"Goddammit," Cash growled, fixing my shirt, as he dropped his forehead to mine. "What?"

"Found sothing!" Booker called. "et in Hatch’s office."

"Deep breaths." I stroked his cheek. "We’ll finish this later."

He nodded, closing his eyes and breathing slow and steady. "Jesus, you make rock hard."

"I know. That’s my job." I smiled. "Well, when I’m not removing spleens."

He kissed gently, then once more before walking out the door.

Cash

I walked into Dad’s office and found him sitting behind his laptop, furiously typing away. He waved over and I huddled behind him as he entered in a series of numbers and code. It was all Greek to , but Dad’s fingers flew over the keyboard as he attempted to gain access to a secured server or sothing or other. "Where’s Hatch?" I asked.

"Making so calls."

"What’s going on?" I asked.

"I’m trying to hack into the Spiders’ system," Dad said. "The problem is Rail’s got safeguards so what I thought I found was a ruse. Right now, I’m trying not to set off his alarms."

"I thought you could get around anything," I taunted.

"I can, but I don’t want him to know I’m looking," Dad said. "He’s got booby traps everywhere."

"Does it matter if he knows?"

"Yeah, bud, it matters. We don’t want them to know we know anything." He swore. "What I need is Claude."

"Who the fuck’s Claude?"

"Not who, what. It’s an Invisible Man program Ducky wrote that will allow to snoop around undetected. She nad it after Claude Rains, the actor who played the part in the original show back in the 1930s," he explained. "You know how much she loves old movies," he said, just as my mother walked in, Teagan hot on her heels.

"What the hell is this business about soone fucking with Teagan’s car?" Mom demanded.

"Jesus, fuck," Dad hissed.

"Sorry," Teagan rushed out.

"Don’t apologize, honey, these n know exactly how difficult it is to keep anything from ."

"Dani, you need to stay out of this," Dad said.

"Like you wanted to stay out of the bullshit with Lucian Harwell?"

"Danielle, leave it alone," Dad growled.

"What’s goin’ on?" I demanded.

"Who’s Lucian Harwell?" Teagan asked.

"He’s the guy who murdered Chelsea," I said.

"You both need to leave it the fuck alone," Dad said.

"Well, I’m sure as hell not leaving anything the fuck alone." I scowled. "But why does Mom need to?"

"I need to grab a different laptop," Dad said, rising to his feet. "It’s got Ducky’s program on it." He walked around his desk and made his way to my mom, sliding an arm around her waist. "You need to drop this, Dani. Seriously."
